I test ride the 2015 Triumph Tiger 800 XCx and give my thoughts on this popular adventure touring motorcycle.
The 2015 Triumph Tiger 800cc models were released in 2 different versions. The XC and the XR with a few different variations of each. The XCx is the most dirt friendly version of this bike and with the most accessories where the XR models are more road biased.
Thanks so much to Motosport Industries Gold Coast in Nerang for allowing me to test ride this bike. Check them out below.

Now you know how I feel every day. That whistle never gets annoying, I love the sound of the triples as you know.
@MrAusadventure

+troyboy986 I could definitely live with this bike mate. The whistle seemed loud for the first 100 metres but then I got used to it and grew to like it. I like the triples as well. I've really enjoyed each one that I have ridden so far.

I have got to convince my man Triumfant to let me ride his Tiger next time I'm in town. Very thorough overview MrAus. A very versatile machine. And way to get in some hooligan action by "testing" it out on the grass LOL. Nicely done brother.

Yeah man! That would be awesome! He'd be up for that I'd say! Thanks mate and yes indeed. Testing bikes is awesome for a little bit of hooliganism. :-)

Great review as always, love the personal touch instead of just facts and figures. Love the fact that you get a genuine feel of the bike from your review. Tigers were on my list back when I was looking for at bikes, but the VStrom won me mainly from a $$$ POV :)

+69SIM Thanks mate. I am not one for remembering facts and figures so going for the overall feel is what I find works. Any other details I think are important can go on the screen in text. I'd really love one, but yes, if I was realistically looking to upgrade, even though I loved this and the Africa Twin, I'd probably end up with a used DL1000 from 2014/15 if there were any available. Just because of the $$.

+MrAusAdventure Yeah same, people ask me about my bike, I'm like *shrugs* "It's goes well and feels stable at speed but slow manoeuvres can be interesting." Ask me about BHP etc I'm clueless :) For what you get and what you pay, I reckon a new model DL1000 is a good purchase, slightly biased though here hehe.

Great review mate, I like this kind of review best, just genuine reactions and impressions without too much tech and so called "expert" stuff - an excellent bike. Has a little bit more off road protection than the one I tried, but still a little lacking for the serious stuff, as they all are, perhaps with one exception ;-) Mine sounded bloody good with an arrow though! I thought it felt a lot like mine though, considerable more power and a corresponding much higher first gear ration, which I really did enjoy. I like the whistle :)
@MrAusadventure
@MrAusadventure 8 жыл бұрын
+CaptainCranky Thanks mate. I do like to give some technical info. But only the basics for someone to decide if it may be the bike for them or not. No need for the bore and stroke dimensions of the engine etc... Yep. In reality, you wouldn't take this one seriously off road. But for what we do, it would be great. It was definitely a very comfortable bike to ride and I grew to like the whistle. I had always liked it when hearing a Triumph go past, but when sitting on top of the whistle it was initially very in your face until I got used to it.

Interesting review! It seems to be a great bike, with many nice features. I'm particularly impressed it has the cruise control. First time I hear about a cruise control on a 800cc bike... 😊

Really good review, mate. Agree the screen can cause buffeting (which is why I have a mini screen on the top of mine) and the engine bars really should protect the tank more. Some nice upgrades over my XC but not enough to temp me into replacing it.
@MrAusadventure
@MrAusadventure 8 жыл бұрын
+Triumf Ant Thanks mate. Good idea about the screen extension. I need to do the same on my bike as well. Yeah, fair enough. If I had the money, I'd definitely consider one and would go for the XC over the XR.

That whistle did my nut in 1:00 into the vid, I couldn't be dealing with that. It does seem windier which I couldn't be arsed with either. Looks good though, nice review man.
@MrAusadventure
@MrAusadventure 8 жыл бұрын
+sixmiffedy I didn't mind the whistle in the end after I got used to it. I reckon the wind could be improved with screen adjustments or an aftermarket screen if you were to buy one. It's always hard to get these things right when you only have the bike for 30 minutes. Thanks man!

+CLUTCH1st VLOGS Thanks mate! :-) Yes, I know how you like those unique sounding Ducatis! I don't mind the whistle, but I did find it to be loud in the first minute of the ride when I said that. I'd always liked that triple whistle when hearing a bike go past me, but being on top of it was a lot louder initially. I got used to it pretty quickly.

Sold my Vstrom 650 and bought a 2015 Tiger 800XCx. 30,000 km later riding it all over Oz on dirt and sealed roads I can say it is a great all roads tourer. Triumph addressed some of the issues ( windscreen design, first gear too high, handle bar position too low and forward) in the 2018 update. Feature for $ it is good value.

they are indeed a sexy looking machine, and the colour of it really stands out when next to other bikes..... Triumph did good with this one, although as with most of the adv-tourers a bit of money needs to be spent to be able to really go adventuring on it.
@MrAusadventure
@MrAusadventure 8 жыл бұрын
+Andy Pandy Motovlogs It certainly is a great looking bike. Yep, in reality, even with the 21 inch front wheel, it is designed primarily for bitumen with a few gravel roads thrown in. I'd rather take a DRZ or similar on a real adventure.

The XR models are more road touring biased with cast wheels and the XC models are more off road biased with spoked wheels. The different versions of each are just a basic version an a version with more extras. If you see this link, then scroll down, the differences are listed. www.triumphmotorcycles.com.au/newtiger800

Its a Triumph so it must be good...lol Self cancelling blinkers now there's a plus....lol, seriously would you feel more confident with the Vstrom on a dirt road or the tiger? RSM8
@MrAusadventure
@MrAusadventure 8 жыл бұрын
+02bigkev Well of course! I'm surprised that Cranky didn't have a dig about the self cancelling indicators! lol Hmm. That's a tough question. I'd need more time on the Tiger to be able to answer that one honestly. Plus there is the familiarity of the Strom. I know how it feels both on bitumen and dirt. But the Tiger has technological advancements that my 8 year old bike doesn't have. I'm sure the Tiger would be great. RS2M8 :-)

It`s a good looking bike. I would like to ride it. What about the sitting height, is it suitable for small riders too? :D
@MrAusadventure
@MrAusadventure 8 жыл бұрын
+Bavarian Biker It is an awesome looking bike. I really like the styling of the newer Tigers. I found the seat height on this to be really easy for me to reach. But then, this one had a lower seat and I have not found any adventure touring bikes to be too tall for me yet. The KTM 1190 Adventure R might be the only one actually. But I've not ridden that, just sat on it.

+Arizona RE Ah man. I have to admit to being a little jealous that you have a Tiger! I think they are worth the money that you pay for them here, but there definitely are cheaper options that are similar. It all depends on individual circumstances I guess. Thanks mate! RS2M8 :-)

no disrepect to you but when the reviewer says " doesnt feel like a big bike " end quote ………wait till u have to pick it up ,( but again depends on where you ride) just had to vent …… one of the things i dont like with tigers is that that rear sub frame isnt bolted on but welded …..correct me if im wrong good vid cheers
@MrAusadventure
@MrAusadventure 8 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah. I agree. Picking it up is a different story. I've had to pick up my V-Strom a few times and it's not fun. But with a lot of the more modern, but similar sized bikes to my DL650 that I have ridden, this one included, they feel a lot lighter when you are riding them. I have no idea about the sub frame. I only had the bike for 30 minutes. Nowhere near long enough to give a comprehensive review. Thanks! :-)
