The Triumph Tiger 800 XRx is the last in my little spree of test rides, but by no means the least. I've never ridden a Triumph before and was very much looking forward to hearing that triple cylinder Triumph whistle emanating from betwixt my thighs! Come join me as I finally get to cross another one off of the Bucketbike list.

Great review AMC I know this was a million years ago but I just found you after you were mentioned on a Xmas video from "A brit A blonde A bike" from Nz as a recent owner of a tiger XRX 2016 I love it and I rode a tracer and it just wasn't me. Fully agree with your views the longer you ride it the better the Tiger is. Sadly my radiator collected a stone so it's in bits. Cheers for the video.

I have had 12 bikes over the last 25 years but my XRT is BY FAR the best one ever! Great engine, superior gearbox and things in the right places. Tried a F800GS first......was that disappointing? Yes it was - big time
@AndyManCam
@AndyManCam 7 жыл бұрын
+Karsten Lund I can very easily imagine that a Tiger would be a far more exciting ride than an F800gs. It was a fine steed indeed!

Good review. I like these, I really do. For me this is the best looking motorcycle out there right now, but I'm loathe to buy a bike that isn't from Japan. I'm sure that Triumph are sorted reliability wise, but...

Excellent review Andy! The 800 engine is a peach I think. A bit vibey in places and a little bit under-powered but great fun with a great sound.
@AndyManCam
@AndyManCam 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. It's a belter, can't argue with that. Easily the smoothest throttle response too, though maybe that's the pay off of lower power? And the sound is second to none. I tried to get a go on a Multistrada 1200, but showroom staff were too busy brushing fluff off of each others Armani uniforms. Shame. Still, your review ticked that box already anyway!

Haha yes the Ducati is rather exclusive dear x. Love the Triumph but really couldn't get on with that Yamaha. Turned round after 10 minutes - hated it! Not sure about all this Xrx XCx XRt XTr XcA nonsense from Triumph though.

Thanks SR. Good to hear that my enthusiasm isn't too wide of the mark! I'm still on the '06 Versys im afraid. Giving it a bit of a refresh soon with new chain, handlebars and heated grips though! Felt guilty after cheating on her with all those other lovely lovely bikes!

Great reviews AMC; really informative. As a fellow Versys 650 owner I can appreciate the desire for a larger capacity bike. Money is definitely the blocker at the moment, but hasn't stopped me trying a Harley '48' (disappointing) and a BMW R nineT (loved that a lot; so came back for another bite). Must tick the Versys 1000 and Triumph off the list before long. Agree with The Infamous Biker that the Tracer is just fugly.
@AndyManCam
@AndyManCam 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate! I'm always happy with my versys but we never stop thinking about the next one do we!? I reckon money is unfortunately the road block for most of our plans! Versys 1000 will amaze you. But it doesn't have the character of the Triumph. I'd really like to have a crack on a RNineT. There's a company here just started renting them out so might give one a weekend in spring! So hang on. You ride a 650 Versys and think the Tracer is ugly?... ;p
@Langersport
@Langersport 8 жыл бұрын
+Andy Man Cam nineT is great; considered finance but glad I didn't just now. I'd say the Versys 650 is quirky not fugly :D haha! But Tracer verses the Triumph... The Triumph is so much better aesthetically IMO. Must ride one. Ride safe fella.

GF watched the Tracer video and forbade me! "Stupidest looking bike ever" she said. I still want one though! Maybe because of this marmite discussion that it provokes! Tiger is very pretty though. Simply no denying it.

+R6 Shifter I agree. The Tiger was comfortable. Though those low pegs kinda scared the crap out of me! Tracer is a fantastic bike for sure. I was swayed by the BMW for a little while, but I think the Tracer is back at the top of the list!

+R6 Shifter Congratulations! I totally get it! You could grab a second hand R1200 with that 6k then have your cake and eat it!! It's only 50cc down on the tracer. Should have found more ponies than 75ps at the wheel. It's also a fair bit heavier than the tracer too. 210kg wet vs 224kg (tiger)
@AndyManCam
@AndyManCam 5 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. Though out of the tighter bends, the Triumph felt a little bit more tractable due to the increased low torque and the smoother fuelling. That said, I'd still personally pick the Tracer if I had to choose!

If I was to get a triumph, it would probably be the explorer. I really want to like the v-strom 1000 but I don't think I would like the bigger front wheel. I'd possibly buy it if it had sport wheel/tires. The versys 1000 has the power and "sportiness" but its just big.
@AndyManCam
@AndyManCam 8 жыл бұрын
I've not tried an Explorer. Sure would like to though! I was surprised to read after these reviews that apparently the triumph adventurers have a 19" front wheel too! So they've obviously done some serious geometry wizardry to make the bikes SO much zippier than the V-Strom. I have to say that the Versys really didn't feel big at all. No real trouble transitioning from my 650 to the 1000. This really surprised me as i expected it to be massive.
@Quagmire88
@Quagmire88 8 жыл бұрын
In the spring, I plan to take the v-strom 1000 and the versys 1000 for a ride. I am wanting a new bike after having my SV650sf for 5 years.

Interesting you feel the Yamaha is lighter? I've spent quite a bit of time on both bikes! I've owned them both. At speed the Yamaha felt heavy and planted. In parking lots and slow turn arounds the Yamaha felt top heavy. I agree with everything else you said but being honest the Tiger feels way lighter and more manegable then MT09
