Hello Mate, greetings from South Australia. I found you by watching Hippo Drones video of you saving the sheep ( good job). Great bike Mate, my friends has one and just loves it. The exhaust sounds great without being too loud. Please it survived the crashes. Take care and stay well.

Mine does the fuel gauge thing occasionally. Sorts out after a couple of km. I've got cruise control but I scarcely ever use it. If I could magic it onto your bike as a pressie I would. I ride on unsealed roads a lot so I've got the XCA. I've got no intention of swopping it. Fantastic touring bikes. Yes, the modern controls & screen are a big improvement. The bugbear is you can only change into or out of offroad modes standing still. Good to see somebody else is happy with their Tiger.

Good honest review - had my 2012 model since new & its a keeper. Would just like to add its also does 2 up no problem - dont believe all the hype that you cant tour on a middleweight . We are both 11.5 stone & have a 3 box set of luggage too. Tour all over the Western highlands & islands of Scotland every year.

I really wanted to love my Venom T800. I really did. Wanted a Triumph all my life. Only bike that has tank slapped me (several time, no crashes). Wallowed badly in twisties. Lovely sound from the triple but needs tuning often. Really happy to part ways with it after 20,000 km or so. Current ride 2015 Multistrada. Past Duc Scrambler, Buell Uly, 650 GS, others.

Greetings Phil! Just come across your channel. I traded up to 2014 Tiger 800, from Honda CB500X and there is quite a difference. I bought it mainly so my wife and I could get some touring in. Only now starting to get a few miles in. Interesting review. I added Barkbusters, centre stand, crash bars and a louder horn, which gets plenty of use. I also changed the tyres as I found the Metzlers were terribly prone to tracking. I put Avon Trailriders on and they are pretty good and Ok for some very light off road. They seem to perform better with lower than recommended pressures. I agree the turning circle is rubbish and the bike feels pretty top heavy, especially with a full tank. But it is a fast comfortable and stable riding machine, although I am not so enthusiastic about the triple whine! Maybe I should try an Arrow can? Early days, looking forward to putting the miles in. Thanks for your reviews!

Hi Mike, welcome along! Good to hear you're enjoying your Tiger. I'd say the Arrow exhaust is a nice upgrade, doesn't do much for the whine but does make it feel a bit sportier on the throttle and it's not overly loud either. I'm currently running Michelin PR5's on mine and can't recommend them enough, superb grip in wet or dry. I will soon be due a 2 year review on this which should be interesting as I have recently done some off road on the Tiger.

Hallo there, nice review. I have some questions for you, I had one from 2013 (tiger 800 ABS) same colour as yours with around 9000 Kms. I found the throttle bit jerky, not so smooth in slow drive, say 20-30km/h but smooth on highway. In neutral I could feel little vibration (almost like rubbing) from clutch casing and through the seat too, but gone with pressed the clutch, does it happen with yours? Thanks and ride safe.

Hi I had a 2013 abs same colour as yours, did over 20k miles on it traded it for a bmw gs which I'm struggling to like as much to be honest. I'd love a tiger 900 but as you say too expensive especially as they have dropped the 9.5k basic model from the line up..... With regard to the fuel gauge, mine used to do the same, I found when I cleaned the battery terminals and vaseline etc it was much better..... I'm now looking for a decent 800 as a replacement for the gs...... looking forward to that lovely triple sound again..

Hi Phil. I had the same issue with the fuel gauge on my Tiger 800 and found that under the petrol cap was a little circular guard with a steel bar crossing the tank opening to stop you putting the fuel nozzle to far in the tank. This guard is only pushed into the tank hole so had fallen into the petrol tank and stopping my fuel float from moving. And as I travelled it moved around my tank so the fuel gauge corrected itself. I had to take my tank off and undo the float nuts and the obstacle fell out. Just check when you open your filler cap to see if you have a little bar running across the filler cap opening. If there's no bar crossing the opening then you might have the same issue. Hope I have explained this good enough for you to understand ☺️ lol. I love my tiger too and I've had mine for 7years this year.
@Phil480
@Phil480 3 жыл бұрын
I have seen that bar on the newer models, I think they are there to protect the fuel filter. Mine doesn't have it, so either it should be there and has broken off or it wasn't used on my version. I'll have to look into that just in case it should be there.

@CornishMotorcycleDiaries 4 жыл бұрын
So, how low does the lowering link make the seat height and does it affect the handling at all?
@Phil480
@Phil480 4 жыл бұрын
Based on the bike specs (std seat height is 810mm, minus 20mm for the low rider seat I have, minus 35mm from the lowering links) it should now be 755mm, but it doesn't feel that low but that's probably because it is a wide seat. The handling doesn't seem to be affected. I may see about dropping the front slightly to suit.

Ive used to ride a cruiser V-twin bike. I've traded that in for an 800 Tiger. I'm havng a hard time adjusting to the high pitched whiney noise. I like the noise at first when starting the engine. But doing 60-70 miles an hour in a highway for a couple of hours starts to be painful. Does anyone have a recommendation for the best brand/model of slip on silencer in terms of noise reduction or changing the frequency from high to lower pitch? Performance is not my main goal, but noise/pitch reduction. Thanks!

D# very useful sensible and helpful review. , I'm a beginner motorcyclist end am small 166cm, currently I ride a naked bike Honda but he is not comfortable in highway,, so which bike of this equation is right for me? I drive daily to work in the city and also the highway( Commuting) and sometimes during a weekend round of recreational so, which one? crossover or adventure motorcycle so what is your opinion? Tiger 800/850 .... or BMW 750/850?
@Phil480
@Phil480 3 жыл бұрын
I'd say the Tiger 900 (or the Tiger Sport 850, they are pretty much the same bike). It's better balanced than the old 800, and I found the 900 was easier to reach the floor on. The BMW is good, however I prefer the Triumph triple engine over the BMW twin. It's been a while since I've ridden the BMW range so not sure how well they compare to the Triumph. From what I've heard, there seems to be some build quality issues with some areas of the BMW's. Another one to consider would be the Honda NC750X. Hugely practical and very economical.

Hi Phil, I had a 2015 XRX, I only had it for 1 month when I was knocked off by a car turning in front of me from stationary traffic. Perhaps Tigers are invisable to car drivers? Anyway, the biggest problem for me with the Tiger, was its habbit of tramlining on overbanding and ridges along the road, whch turns out to be a common problem with the XR series, it is something to do with the front tyre width/height ratio, and the fact that it is old school Crossply instead of the normal radials. I swapped for Honda's (Crossrunner/X-ADV) but definitely going to test the 900. Cheers, Gordon
@Phil480
@Phil480 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Gordon, I've not had the tramlining until more recently now my tyres are wearing out (10k miles on Pirelli Scorpions). I have heard others saying about the tramlining. Maybe it only affects the newer models? Mine is pre XR series.

My Tiger 800 ABS came fitted with the original Pirelli Scorpions. Absolute nightmare. Appalling tramlining. Switched to Michelin PR4s. Fantastic improvement and problem solved. Re big top box. Easy fix is to buy a Givi 40litre job, obviously existing rack will cater.
@gordonLP
@gordonLP 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Mr B. That is interesting, I did consider the PR4's but they are listed on the Michelin site as "an alternative" fitting as they had a different front tyre H/W ratio (the original being the likely cause of the tramlining), the trouble with that is, it is not a Triumph recommended alternative, although the various forums mention a Triumph "Technical Note" where they are appantly approved, but the two dealers close to me (Luguna and J.S Gedge) knew nothing of this note, this in effect means to the insurance it is a modification, and I didn't want to go down that route (the extra cost). Which was a pity because other than that, I realy liked that bike. It might seem minor, and during the day you could easily componsate, but at night, well it was just a nightmare. I'm going to have a go on the new 900 and if its OK will probably PX my X-ADV for one (or maybe the BMW F900XR.who knows). Cheers Gordon

Needless to say the English are always going to be biased, so don't take their words seriously. You must test ride one yourself to find out what's really like. However, I think Triumph building this bike with such a low ground clearance they've completely ruined it. I'm only 5'10' I had my legs bent, it's a very weird sensation, it felt like I was seating on a scooter, it's going to hit all sorts of bumps and uneven tarmac and scrape the foot pedals off especially into the bends. It didn't give me any confidence since i was always worried to touch down with that little sort of plate they've fitted under it, I definitely disliked the 19' front wheel, replacing the spokes, they've totally spoiled it, what a waste ! Thanks but no thanks !
@Phil480
@Phil480 2 жыл бұрын
The Tiger 800 XR range is not really designed for off road. That's why Triumph made the XC range with more ground clearance and off road wheels and features. Having said that, I have taken my Tiger 800 with road tyres off road and it managed just fine apart from some very slippery mud. Dry gravel and rocks, no problem. I had installed an aluminium sump guard in place of the stock hardened plastic one. Ground clearance wasn't too much of an issue even with my lowering links on. However, if you are after a bike for more serious off road stuff, there are much more suitable, cheaper and lighter bikes than the Tiger out there.
