Volkswagen's TDI line up had shocked consumers after they encountered the emissions scandal in 2015. However, the VW group has made efforts to meet the recall, and you can now purchase a new 2015 tdi in 2017. That's right, a brand new 2 year old car. Today, we review a 2015 TDI Jetta and see how it holds up against the competition.

Had an 04 Passat TDI and I got 59 or so miles per gallon on the highway up until I got a new 2015 Jetta TDI a few months ago. Still get the same (a tad bit better) gas mileage in my Jetta. Really sad 2015 was the last year for the TDIs. Knowing it’s the last year for them I will probably keep it forever.

2012 dieselgate passat. Runs like a dream, great on gas, oh well on emission tests because i converted from an 05 Ford F150. (15mpg) Gas economy is 54mpg and the slightest downhill pumps that up to 60-70. Inner city, gas burns quicker. But its still average 25mpg. Only problem is NOx sensor. And it usually just needs to be cleaned.

Just got a 2015 Passat TDI after the recall was performed. It drives the same as before, 44 mpg on highway...show me a vehicle like that which gets that? None. Also the nature of the engine has nothing to do with its fuel economy in a negative way. Diesels do not rev to 6500 rpms. They make their power down low. Gear it correctly and this won’t be a problem. This is my 4th ve diesel, love it. But make sure to buy 2015 only or 2012 forward Passats. All use DEF or diesel exhaust fluid, it’s the quickest way to reduce NOx. Pre-2015 2.0 TDI [except passats] don’t use this and the drivability of those and it’s fuel economy is more impacted that 2015s and they must reduce NOx in-cylinder or rely on existing aftertreatment systems which is not designed to remove that much NOx from the system. With DEF technology you can, just uses a little more...

600 kms? that sounds low, has this car had the fix? I'm driving a 2015 golf highline tdi pretty sure I lost about 50kms /tank since the fix but before I was averaging about 750/tank now its about 700. probably will get it tuned after 2018 hardware fix. good video I actually drove a 2014 corolla for a while before moving to this car. I feel the infotainment is about on par with toyota well in my golf highline anyways. still better fuel economy than the corolla and 20 extra hp and more torque with the option for tuning clear winner is the VW line up... that being said I did find their camry 2014 had a feature that made steering more tight after 40 km/h which would be a neat feature for the golf to adopt.

drove one one issue scared me, if you try to load the engine up to get across traffic etc, and touch the brake, the engine will die, as you are doing it.not good when your now in the oncoming traffics lane. Backing up as well. touch the brake and the engine dies leaving you with nothing for a second or so.
@karkoon6364

That is a common feature of DSG. But I can assure you that it doesn't die and once you get used to it, you can actually blast off the signal pretty quickly.
@_multiverse_
@_multiverse_ 6 жыл бұрын
That's actually a safety feature so you don't accidentally press on the gas pedal when stopping in an emergency. Also, if you're trying to load thing like you would a torque converter automatic that's a bad idea. Inside, that transmission is the same as a manual transmission which means it has a clutch. You're essentially riding the clutch and only damaging your transmission

Too many short journeys can clog the particulate filter in tdi engines, but it won't be a problem if you drive the car above 2000rpm on the freeway for about 30 minutes every few weeks. I drive a 1.6tdi and I'm getting 50mpg from mostly short journeys.

I have a 2015 Jetta tdi with 40,000 km (25,000 miles) on it. A small percentage of my driving is on gravel roads, as we live just two miles from pavement. Gravel wore through the protective covering below the AdBlue tank, damaging the wiring and the sensor. The cost to repair the car was $1340.89 (after the dealer helped with a discount!). Volkswagen refuses to fix it on warranty because the gravel is an "Outside Influence". How ridiculous! I have never been informed that the vehicle should not be driven on gravel roads! This should have been clearly stated in ANY AND ALL advertising regarding these vehicles. This is totally a design flaw and should be corrected. The whole fix should be covered on warranty. So, if you plan to drive on any gravel roads, don’t buy a Volkswagen tdi with AdBlue!

I don't believe this video answers the question in the title "Are Dieselgate cars bad?"
@WestVanGarage
@WestVanGarage 6 жыл бұрын
You're right, I didn't give an explicit answer to that. If I did, I would have to drive every single model under the recall. However, this specific Jetta impressed me and from what I gathered, this is a perfectly good car that shouldn't have its reputation ruined due to the diesel gate scandal. As far as the title goes, the sole purpose was to form some opinion about this diesel gate Jetta and add it to a "collection" of diesel gate reviews on the internet which could help one decide whether or not diesel gate cars are bad. Long story short, I sort of implied in my video that if every diesel gate car is like this, then they're not bad, in fact they're all excellent. Thanks for watching :)

the VW has a bad issue with the accelerator pedal , If you are uphill in traffic, and try to press the gas pedal and brake at the same time, to keep the engine loaded up, the engine will go limp and roll back, (into the car behind you). Trying to get across the lane of traffic, same thing, Have the foot on the brake and try to load the engine when your ready to cross traffic. the engine will go limp, with you in the oncoming traffic lane. The radio on the car is garbage also. reception is terrible.

If it has a turbo in it, it ain't worth a shtt for city driving,NO torque at very low rpms; then,it wakes up,but too late; it SHOULD BE MANDATORY for the automakers to build a LARGE percentage of their cars with NO TURBO,these ,except in races,are MUCH more pleasant to drive.
