2016-17 Honda Accord Headlight LED DRL Burned Out Chip Replaced/Repaired

In this video I'm showing how to swap the LED chip for DRL from a used Honda Accord headlight. Note, Honda extended it's headlight warranty from 3 years to 10 years. If for some reason Honda will not replace the headlight (salvage etc.) than this DIY is for you.

@@Thoughtflux You can get it done for free! Honda Service Bulletin 19-042. Honda-wide warranty for 10 years. The dealership will run a VIN check, and if yours is a match, they'll do it for free. You didn't have to buy your car from their dealership or anything. I have a 2016 Accord Sport. A pair of new headlights will run you between $250-$500+ depending on what you want and if you install them yourself.

FYI this can be replaced by the dealership its a factory recall. 2016-2017 honda accord. My daughter has a 2017 accord and was replaced for free. covers 10 years any milage

My drl on my driver's side went out about a month ago, and I thought I was looking at an $800 replacement...until I saw this post. I just took my 2017 Honda Accord to my dealer and they replaced the whole headlight unit free due to Service Bulletin 19-042. Great post...thanks!

Note, Honda extended DRL warranty in USA for 2016-17 Accord models from 3 years 36,000 miles to 10 years unlimited miles. Recommend you go to dealer before attempting the repair yourself.

@@sierraceja7897 aslong as it's a 2016-2017 Accord, Honda extended it from 3 years to 10 years, so you should have been good to go for free. I say call Honda directly and have your VIN# ready and ask for the nearest dealer that will replace it through the extended warranty. Cheers.

Sierra Ceja You should have received a letter in the mail letting you know that it is covered for 10 years now. Take that with you if you have it but it shouldn’t even be an issue. What year Accord do you have? I just took my 2016 Accord to get mine fixed and didn’t even have to make an appointment. Just dropped it off and they called me when they were done. You don’t have to pay anything out of pocket, if they are telling you anything else contact Honda motors of America as this is a tsb directly from them.

I just had my 2016 Honda Accord headlights replaced due to the daytime running lights being burned out. Honda due to the recall you have 10 years from the date of original purchase, to do it for free

I have Touring LED headlights on my 2016 Accord EXL and I have the same issue “burn out led”, would Honda dealership change them for me or that just wiped out the warranty.

Hi just a quick question... can we get away with just unsoldered the burnt SMD LED and just solder a new SMD LED? My motorcycle DRL led strip is weak... n they dont sell any chip/board/module, just a whole new headlight which cost almost $1000 singapore dollara

Looks like a great repair if you can find a donor light and Honda won't fix it under the extended warranty, but I have a hard time believing that that seal is going to keep water and moisture out once you have broken it without cleaning up the old sealant and replacing it very carefully.

yes i just did a eardown on one of these, why not replace it with aftermarket led chip if you know the honda led chips(for the inner led strip) is defective

No, they are not interchangeable, but they use the same bad LED system to power them.

Thank you for your video. Are the oem headlights sold on eBay? I would rather buy new headlights to get back the LED DRL brightness again. Is this a good alternative? Also are the headlights sold on eBay or amazon an identical replacement?

Yes, OEM headlights are sold on eBay, both LED and Halogen type under Genuine OEM section. Depo brand and TYC brand, both aftermarket headlights, are identical to OEM with good fitment. The only downside to aftermarket headlights, DRL are a bit bluer white compare to OEM white, but I am not 100% sure. Repair shop use aftermarket headlight that are CAPA Certified.

I am not aware of anyone selling the LED tube. I got my LED tube from a spare damaged Accord headlight.

Honda had a recall on these . If you go to any Honda dealer, they will replace the entire lamp for free. I had both of mine replaced in my 2016 Accord.

No, no fogging since then. I've done around 10 Accord headlights this year, and none had condensation.

I think all u needed to was clean up the burnt area on the tube and replace the led board. There 2 separate tubes.

Honda has to fix it for free. There’s now a 10 year extended warranty (from original purchase date) on the daytime running lights. They will replace the whole headlight assembly for free

@Jean Viloria, you probably already know but there is a button just under the spoiler but you have to have the wireless key nearby in order for it to work. Anti theft feature.

My DRL is burned out too… I called the dealership. They said they won’t have it in stock until October. Like WTF… it’s hate it when a defect makes my car obvious.
