Luke takes a closer look at the Triumph Tiger 800 prior to going on the launch of the new Triumph Explorer. Do you really need a 1200cc adventure bike?

There's a wrench to adjust the mirror in the toolkit that comes with the bike. I LOVE the mirrors on my Tiger 800 - Great visibility and no vibration.

i love my 800xcx , had it a couple of years now and been everywhere on it, though mostly on-road. came with the full ally panniers which are ace. upgrade the screen to the bigger triumph screen which helps. only complaint is that trying to get it on the centrestand is a pain if you are lightweight like me and definitely can't do it with panniers on. i think it needs shifting so the pivot point is closer to the middle of the bike. i really have to push my weight onto it and its not easy at all. other than that its a fantastic bike with a great rising position and a cracking engine

These are great bikes. I love the revvy engine, but those fuel figures don't stack up in real life (do they ever?). I had one for the day and it will do 65mpg on the motorway...so long as you sit at 52 mph. At at constant 70 it returns 58mpg and combined I was only getting 53. I ended up buying the 1215 Tiger Explorer (2015) and that does 61 mpg at a constant 70 and 53 again on mixed riding. I think that if Triumph put the 1050 motor in the 800 chassis, you'd have a superb adventure bike

If you're going to review an off-road bike's credentials, you really could do with putting some off-road rubber on it - or, being more realistic, a hybrid tyre to reflect what most people will use.

Great review, as always. Thumb up. Bike is also fine. BUT, guys, let's be honest: after the new Africa Twin is out you're really gonna be soft in the head to buy either of this Triumph or BMW F800GS/GSA instead of the Africa.
@BestRex3 жыл бұрын
@@Scarletpimp72 , I am short, and I'm perfectly fine on the Africa Twin and all other adventure bikes. BTW, low seat option are available for all of them.

Hum… “Do you need anything more than an 800?” Seems I’m always looking for more power, more speed, and then more control, and more comfort features. Just like with this bike, I’d have to have the upgrade for the heated seats and grips! Once you’re used to that stuff, you can’t seem to live without it! lol But as for continuing to go up in engine size??? That adds weight and probably size to the overall dimensions of the bike…which for me can be a negative for off-road (dirt/mud). On hard pavement, more size and weight are ok for the most part, but on dirt, mud, water, tight spots, rock, dips and bumps…I look for a bike I can handle (or manhandle) through and around all those conditions. You start bumping up the size and weight of the bike and you begin to lose the nimbleness needed to navigate all those treacherous off-road conditions, because power alone won’t get you through it. If you can manage to create more power whilst keeping the weight and size down, then great. Otherwise, not so great. These are just my thoughts, and I’ve said too much. It was a great review, btw!

That's my main argument against "dirt tracking" it always feels like it needs a real good scrub clean after. For example. you wouldn't go "dirt tracking" and straight away go to your nans without a good scrub down.

I'm thinking of switching over to an adventure-style motorcycle. I do a lot of commuting (about 2000 km per month in Belgium, I think this is about 1300 miles isn't it?). And a few long trips per year. Because I travel a lot alone, I want my bike to be bulletproof! Reliability to me is even more important than comfort. So... although I really liked the Tiger when I did a test ride, I think The Honda AT is a bike on which we can always rely in every circumstances, or could I be wrong?
@BestRex8 жыл бұрын
+Miguel Dirix, your comment is obviously tore apart in the middle, and lost it's last half. I'd like to read it full. Anyway, if you need a great reliable, comfortable, and fun & easy to ride adventure touring motorcycle - you should definitely buy a Honda VFR1200X/XD Crosstourer. It's really great overall - probably the most underrated motorcycle currently on the market. You can also look at the new Africa Twin if you want something smaller.
@migueld51758 жыл бұрын
+BestRex Hi, I'm not sure wich part is missing... tha last words of my comment was: "or could I be wrong?".  In Belgium the Vfr1200 is pretty expensive.  In my comment I also mentioned the Honda AT.  I think this one I prefer because its' lighter, less expensive, and looks great. I tried the Versys 1000 but didn't like it, it was perfect on the highway but much to big and bulgy in the small vilages, and most important, I've missed the "fun" of driving a motorcycle.
