2017 Reading Goals

Good luck with all of your goals for this year. I look forward to seeing your bookcase decluttering video(s) as I also enjoy watching those. I used to write more detailed notes while I read, but fell off doing that for some reason. I need to get back to it because I haven't been happy with how lacking my explanations of books have been long after reading them.

I love these reading goals and last year recap videos! WOW you read so many books/ pages. My goodreads goal last year was 30 books and I read 34 I think. But this year my goal is 35. I haven't done any stats about how many I read are by women / men / non-binary or their racial / ethnic / national identity but I should. I think I have a good balance though. I really try to decenter Western white writers in my reading!

+28 Bookmarks I'm sucking so bad at this lol. I have Enigma Variations by Andre Aciman checked out from the library which was released in January, but I have no idea when I'll ever get to it. And then a bunch of backlist reads from last year that I put on hold at the library became available at the same time. It's a mess.

Oh no :( Maybe you can try listening to some in audiobook format? I'm sure you'll manage though. Don't get discouraged!

Having to finish a book from your tbr before getting out another library book is such a great idea! I'm totally going to do that. My problem is that I keep reading library books instead of my own too so I definitely need a rule like this in place. I also realised I needed to be reading more books by trans authors/with trans themes and was recently recommended The Art of Being Normal by Lisa Williamson. I have no idea if it's any good but there's one for you. :)

+Ceri Thanks so much for the recommendation. I will be looking that one up. I didn't want to ban library books altogether cause I love the library so I thought that would be a decent compromise. It's so much easier to plough through library books because their deadlines give you more incentive to complete them. I've been doing okay so far though.

+Brown Girl Reading ME TOO! I don't know what we should read. Did you tackle A Little Life yet? Have you read both of Nella Larsen's books? We both like Jesmyn Ward. Maybe we could read her new one when it comes out? Or something by Edwidge Danticat? So many possibilities... I've been such a moody reader lately so planning my reads have gone pretty badly so far this year. Let me know some reads you have in mind and maybe we can try and plan at least two buddy reads for this year.

Started A Little Life but got distracted and didn't get past page 170. It's on my big books to tackle this year list. Danticat is on my mist as well. Let's definitely decide on something eventually. :)
