My friend has a 2016 legacy, I have driven it. We have done some road trips on it And its actually very nice to drive! They nagged about handling, handling is actually pretty good.. we have tested sharp turns on v.corrugated roads and the car is soo planted! It never gets unsettled, you can chuck it in turns hard and it would surprise you with its grip and it won't bottom out on bumps! I think the suspension and handling is pretty good! It can take a lot of bashing yet remain planted!

Excellent family vehicle that is quite, comfortable, safe and show be reliable (at least more so than the Atlas we were also considering). When we started looking the outback wasn’t on the radar for use, we had initially test drove only the Ascent and Forester but came back a couple days later to have another look at the Forester when I asked my salesman about discounts on the Outback. We ended up getting $7k off the Outback which sealed the deal.

Huh. I guess being dad-aged (no kids) helps me to appreciate that the Legacy bodywork appears to be stretched in all the right places in the front 2/3 with a modest tail end. I get the same gut reaction seeing a Legacy as I do the previous gen Honda Accord (one of the best Accord designs when compared against the newest "design"): A well balanced exterior that's pleasing enough to the eye and not edgy / polarizing enough to be an outdated visual train wreck in a few years (see "Toyota Camry"). Frankly, I see these things all of the time when I'm on the roads in the U.S. Mid-Atlantic and I appreciate them for what they are: highly practical, reliable, usable and a very smart buy for the average worker who needs reliable automotive transport across four seasons. Subaru continues to remove barriers for buyers, too, with their efforts to update their head units into the smart phone compatibility era.

Overall, though, I would probably want to go for something more sporty (and eye-catching) like the Mazda6, Optima, Accord, or Camry. Nevertheless, from one car reviewer to another, keep up the impeccable work!

This is what my Mom drives (Muskoka). There really is nothing to dislike or hate about this car. Inside or out. It doesn’t offend anyone and for people who just want a reliable (under warranty) non-attention grabber WITH an AWD and non-German ... you can’t go wrong. I only wish they’d add an estate (wagon) ‘back’ into their line-up. Great review and thanks.

This car seems like it is targeting older Cadillac & Buick buyers who have been displaced by the new sporty demeanor they now possess. In that same respect, for the same money as the Legacy 3.6R, I take the new Regal GS 3.6 AWD instead of this.

I own one!! 2018 legacy ice blue BLK leather bad ass, it's OK fast, but it's AWD and living in Michigan this is a much needed option. I was looking at both the legacy and the Fusion, think depreciation now you know why I went with the legacy. I really LOVE the cruise control, I cant say enough about this car, when stuck in traffic the car slows itself down to a stop then when the traffic starts moving again the car does too and back to the set speed. I also thought it was an old mans car, but after riding in it you will quickly see it's not! Over all I can't get enough of the vehicle and I am glad I bought it! can you say 100K miles or 10 years bumper to bumper warranty covering everything but the tires. why buy a FORD?

Egan Fo it does work for my needs. My work commute is 42 miles round trip, and my father's house is 100 miles round trip. All errands I can complete in my neighborhood on foot. The Legacy is pretty ideal for my needs, but it doesn't get the blood pumping, you know?

Egan Fo I agree. I also have the 2018 Outback 2.5. The smooth application of the available power creates an illusion that it has more horsepower than it does. It’s not unpleasant to me.

My parents brought me home from the hospital in a 91 Legacy wagon that became my first car. To say I'm a big fan of Subaru would be an understatement. I like the added reassurance of AWD since it snows quite often where I live and it comes standard in cars that are under $25k. I'd get the Impreza hatchback but during my test drive, the engine felt like it was struggling to go up a hill. So it's either this Legacy or the Forester.

Having owned a 2005 Legacy GT back in the day, I have to say, this video made me really sad. They USED to make fun cars/wagons .. now we get this. The automotive equivalent of a microwave. You get in, push a button, you get where you're going, then it's done. Zero engagement in everything they make except the WRX/STi, which are still several miles behind their competitors. Toyota ruined Subaru.

Well the BRZ too, and that is at least 85% Subaru, but yeah, bland cars are where the big bucks are, which is what Toyota proved in the 2000's.

Ahh, such a great and unassuming car they were.. especially after a tune. I threw a set of adjustable coilovers, a larger intercooler, and a Cobb dyno-tune on mine, and it was quite fun to embarrass people on the street and the autocross course with my mundane grocery-getting family sedan.

I'm thankful we get the Levorg wagon here in the Philippines, and just this year we also get the 2.0-liter FA20 engine with 296 hp (the new one you can find in the WRX, but with STI-level power output. Unlike the current STI that still uses the ancient 2.5). The only drawback is it only comes in CVT, like this Legacy you reviewed.

These guys hit the nail on the head. Yes it’s is a Dads car, I have a 2017 3.6 Outback, and guess what... I am a Dad in my 50s, like to blend in with the crowd, and I love my car. These cars are not sold as fast sports cars, they are not aiming at that market. By not squeezing more and more power out of the H6 engine makes them reliable and effortless to drive, it’s a road trip vehicle for sure, you can jump in these, drive for days and be assured you’ll get from A to B with no dramas and in comfort. If your looking to buy a new car, I would never preach about these and go on and on about them, but what I would say is, don’t overlook them, it’ll do exactly what it says on the tin.

OK. The steering IS responsive- road feel however is not what one would expect of a sports car or a sportier sedan like the Mazda 6. Handling is controlled, predictable and inspires confidence. The CVT is among the best available and does well enough simulating normal shifting while helping fuel economy. Acceleration is good- not great and probably slower than most in its class. AWD makes a significant traction and drivability difference in all kinds of weather- particularly snow and rain. Safety appears integral to its design and comfort as the reviewers stated is excellent. In adverse conditions or challenging roads- there is no car I would rather own. Visibility is among the best. Interiors are attractive, well laid out- but not opulent. The Infotainment Center is superb. As for styling-the car is handsome and conservative- competitive with older versions of the Accord and Camry. Newer versions of the Accord and Camry are sportier- but not necessarily more attractive or practical. I think its target market are families that want a safe,. predictable and comfortable sedan.

I know it's not the same but I just got the 2019 outback and I'm obsessed with it. Went in for a WRX, then looked at a Forrester sport and while I was waiting to close on the sport I test drove the outback and fell in absolute love. CVT doesn't bother me at all.
