Mom spots a doe with fawn and gives alarm calls. The chicks drop into the "pancake" position, a demonstration of thanatosis--playing dead. Mom flies off and makes multiple passes while the deer are in the area.

This is amazing! I have watched it a couple of times just to see those babies drop to the pancake position! WOW! Thank you Riv.

That was amazing Riv!! What I really enjoyed seeing was at the beg. of vid.... Dad providing shade for the little guy!! I hadn't really seen him pay that much attn b4, or have I just missed it? TY

He's really good about staying on the nest while the chicks are young, providing shade and such. Later on, once they start self feeding, he's in and out for fear of losing a toe! :-D

What's that grid / screen-looking thing at the bottom of the pole -- something to deter climbers?

Solar panels! There's a raccoon baffle on the pole itself (that metal sheeting around the pole above the panels).
