On this days with so much traffic ( northeast) an automatic truck it’s a plus!

Why is it a big deal about a semi being automatic it's about technology now guys as time passes things change im getting cdls and I would love a automated 389 petebilt I prefer the old box style 389 daycab automated im not a fan of the new rounded edge ones but manual or not there is money still to be made

i've driven in both types and i'll tell you automatic is waaaay easier/practical and safer especially for new drivers because the attention is paid more to the operation of the vehicle in terms of maneuvering instead of dividing the attention span to shifting and maneuvering the trailer around. Sometimes the focus would be given to shifting instead of watching the trailer which could be dangerous and very costly.

Peterbilt dealerships are like a candy store to me.

I'm so getting one of those when I can afford to, waiting for my authority to be activated and will be working towards getting a truck like that, only thing that sucks is the space in the sleeper it's a tiny

I like how sophisticted these automated transmissions are getting latley. Their really putting some though into making something well bilt rather then just slapping some quikly putting together gearbox in the name of sales numbers. For the AT haters out there: The future is always coming. Either you hop on board and embrace it, or go sit in your easy chair and watch everybody else move on with out you.

How would this truck do in off-road conditions? Hauling crude oil and things get very muddy and slippery at times; not sure about an auto shift trans for that type of environment.

Well all this hate on automated shifted trans. Is valid to a point.. But my company has full standard, AutoShift, MDrive(Mack) and Allison. The Allison drive like a high HP diesel pickup with a automatic! You plant the pedal when bobtailed and it will throw you back in the seat and start grabbing gears fast! But once you apply a load to the truck it does have like mushy ALL RPM CVT slipping trans feel. But like someone posted on here, if the trucks are used in heavy in town stop and go traffic is great! But open road its kinda of a waist. Some day I wanna try a EatonFuller Top2 trans, it supposed to shift the 2 top gears when needed but it's full standard shift besides that.

My westernstar 54in sleeper looks a lot bigger. My cabinet are 20in wide with a refrigerator freeze microwave and flat top at that. As for the set up not bad. My star 560 and a allison transmission and 373.

Pick-up trucks have finally caught up with cars in terms of technology and comfort in the last few years. Time for semi trucks to do the same.

those 18 speed autos are are a pain in the ass. my company has a 2017 567 and Ive been having issues with mine since day one. been in the shop 3 times and already had a clutch replaced at 80K miles. When it works, its fine but most of the time its always shifting when you dont want it too and then it hangs in that gear, maxing out the revs for what seems like for ever. Other times you will come to a stop, then start to roll out and go, mean while the truck doesn't know what to do. You can have your foot to the floor and the sucker just sits there and does nothing for sometimes more than 5 seconds. Ill stick to my 13 speed.

I have a honest question. These are some beautiful trucks this Pete the 389 and the W900 and I’m sure I’m not alone but the DEF tank really takes away from the look of the truck. Now I had a 99 that was custom and I pulled I dump so to save the crappy look of a hydraulic tank I had my fuel tank split. Now my question is can you have a fuel tank split for the DEF fuel so it doesn’t take away from the look of the truck

Has Eaton made and upgrades or improvements to the Ultrashift since the past few years or so? Remember seeing people complain about them.

You seem like the guy to ask this question: I have seen some full sized semi tractor trailers with single tires all the way around. Both drive axles on the truck, and both axles on the trailer. Not a dually anywhere. The tires are very wide though, like the steer tires on a cement truck. It seems like the trucks I see with them are tankers, mostly fuel tankers. I have heard them called "super singles" Any reason for this? Benefits?

My arm wouldn't know what to do in an auto, having driven 13's and 18's M/Ts all these years. But, it's time to catch up with the times I suppose! We're still lacking in real basic safety features too that needs to be addressed. That said, I'd sure hate to see the repair bill on one of these big autos if they go kaput, yikes!

I’ll stick with shifting what I learned on and well I just prefer manual shift. New driver yeah automatic seems to fit the way the world is headed. Still nice truck not my color but someone will pick this up and yes I’d have gone with the fridge.

The title is a bit misleading as Allison Transmission does not make an 18-speed. No other company in North America builds an automatic transmission for commercial trucks except Allison. All others are automated manual transmissions.

Very nice truck, but the transmission is not an Eaton it’s a paccar paccar transmissions are the only ones to have the column shifter Eaton still uses the dash or floor mounted one. They are two completely different transmissions
