It's so beautiful I can overlook a few shortcomings. Not that Ducati said it was a dirtbike or a touring bike either. It's a versatile bike that can do about anything if you need it to. It has maximum pride factor and that matters. I love mine.

I think it's great that Ducati are still flogging the air cooled twin that started life as a 500! They are trying to attract new riders into the market with sexy names like 'scrambler' but we all know they cant go off road. As a styling exercise, its great. As a road bike, it's great. As a high mileage bike for touring, it's not so capable unless you have a van! Love your honesty Pavlin.

I go offroad every ride home! I cut through a couple of fields and a trail, over a creek, and hop a few curbs. Sure, it's not DIRTBIKE hardcore offroad, but it's more than dirt road, and Scrambler 1100 Pro handles it all just fine, and then back on the road, once the dirt is scrubbed off the tires, Scrambler is a BLAST to ride--even more fun than my old Hawks, which have always been very special and FUN. Ducati has embodied the FUN and JOY of cycling in this bike. My only gripes are THE HEAT blasting you in the legs and face at any stops, and the 15L tank, which is EMPTY by 130 miles. :-o

A weekender. Now that the buyers wallet is 11000 euros lighter, it will easily fit in a tank bag or in the rider jacket.

I personally don't like adventure bikes...I'm more inclined towards naked bikes and dual sport bikes and I've used them both for making travels of 4000 to 16 thousand kms.....you can ride on anything as long as you feel well or reasonably comfortable on you bike and I've used plenty of aftermarket parts to make them suitable for long trips having a lot of fun doing this. You only need to point to any direction you wish to travel on it and just do it!!!! Never ever be scared of not having the "perfect" bike because there's no such thing.....sometimes you get tired on the bike but the feeling of freedom and adventure erases everthing.

actually I use my Scrambler 800 for adventure riding and I love it. I especially like going off road so the lightness and low seat height help a lot with agility. The 800 has more than enough power as well. But then I am 5'10", if you were much taller the leg position might bother you. I made a rack for the rear which includes saddlebag mounts. Thanks for your review of the 1100.

I recommend the Ducati Desert Sled for a Scrambler if you are a tall rider. It's a dual sport air cooled and only 800cc, a completely different bike. I can do around 200 miles in a day before I need to get off as a 6'2" 46 yr old rider.

As you say Pavlin, it is not impossible to travel with anything. Look "Haye op reis" on youtube, yes its in Dutch, he travels with a 1000cc bmw k100 from 1990 en does kirgistan, oezbekistan, one year or so alltogether and even does some off road. It takes a lot imagination, some courage and believe in yourself, and then you can travel with almost any bike.. As allways, good review..

Hi Pavlin, Nice review. You mention short riders briefly, but maybe don't consider them enough. I am a man of small build and simply struggle to handle many bikes because I can barely touch the ground. And there are many women out there that would prioritise a low seat height. Please don't think of this as a complaint. I love your attitude to bikes and riding. Just remember we are not all over 6 foot tall and strong like you.

How hot does it get in the riding position after riding 30 minutes to an hour? I live in a hot southwest climate in Texas. So even mild heat off of the bike is magnified greatly in the summer heat. I like modern retro styling but heat from the motor or exhaust is main issue in bike preference to me.
