Great cause Marty and Julie. My wife and I have spent many days at Peter Mac. She was diagnosed with AML back in 2017 and we spent 12 months living in North Melbourne just across the road. Nothing but praise for the Drs and Nurses at Peter Mac, they are life saving angels 😉❤

Julie went there after two misdiagnosis's from two GPs. She had to have a double mastectomy and a lot of chemo to keep everything at bay! - She is now a relatively healthy women except for some bone deteriation due to her years of medication.

The Bond of ‘Bond Bug’ refers to Lawrence ‘Lawrie’ Bond, an engineer from Preston, Lancashire, who built the first prototype of a series of economical three wheeled cars which motorists could drive on a motorcycle licence, rather than a full driving licence. The Bond Bug was designed by Tom Karen, whom Reliant had commissioned. See the bottom of this post for some interesting info! It was a foray into a sporty model microcar aimed at younger drivers rather than the standard designs which Reliant had been producing. It was originally to be called the Reliant Rogue, but Reliant felt the look and name might spoil their brand so they never released the Rogue. Eventually Reliant bought out Bond Cars and their chief engineer, John Crosthwaite, designed a new chassis. The Bond Bug was very quick compared to other vehicles but UK purchase tax (the precursor to UK VAT) underwent several reductions which meant that it was possible to have a four wheeled vehicle for only a few pounds more, literally less than £10! The Bond Bug production ended with little fanfare however, the vehicle has since gained cult status since then. Tom Karen designed Luke’s landspeeder in Star Wars IV: A New Hope. The vehicle was built on the chassis of a Bond Bug. Angled mirrors concealed the wheels.

As a modeller, if you spray the wheel centres pink/gold/silver first, then mask the centres with a circle of tape, spray the wheels black, then when it’s dry, take the tape off and ‘pinwash’ black into the wheel centres to make all the detail stand out - voila! Perfect.

Cracking as ever! Regarding yellowing windscreens though - I’m sure somebody’s told you this already, but you can restore yellowing plastic by putting it in a 12% solution of ordinary peroxide (you can buy a big bottle cheaply online - food grade is best). Bung it in a jam jar fully immersed and leave it out in the sun all day. The peroxide reacts to light and removes the yellow! Works with clear and white plastic and some coloured plastics (blue has trouble if I remember). Lego and action figure collectors use this trick all the time.

The Bond Bug is a small British two-seat, three-wheeled automobile which was designed by Tom Karen of Ogle Design for Reliant Motor Company, who built it from 1970 to 1974, initially at Bond Cars Ltd factory, but subsequently at Reliant's Tamworth factory. It is a wedge-shaped microcar, with a lift-up canopy and side screens instead of conventional doors.

Named after Laurie Bond, the designer and builder of the original Bond minicar. Their early iterations of the minicar had a kickstarter accessed through the front bonnet. You poked your foot into the engine bay to kickstart the Villiers engine. Luxury indeed. I had one of the fairly early models and I wish I still had it now. Not a pleasant car to drive, but it was wheels if one only had a motorcycle licence...

Bomd were a microcar manufacturer, who were purchased by Reliant. The Bug was the very last car with the Bond name, and used Reliant Regal running gear, a tini 700 cc engine. All were orange, and on the real car, the doors were canvas. The body was GRP on a steel chassis. The club turbed up near me recently, about 30 of them buzzing Round

I think that VW Beetle is actually Herbie the Love Bug from the films and that version was at Monte Carlo. Julie, whwn we first see her hands, has thick haifr wrists, fat fingers and no tattoos but that changes very quickly , as we later see. Bond Buggies were made by Reliant using the Bond name after they took over Bond (formerly Sharps) in 1969.

Nice to see a Reliant on the vids there :) I am just off out to change the exhaust on my MK2 Reliant Robin which is the nephew shall we say of the Bug, the Bug was a sideways development of the old Regal sharing most of the undercarriage of the Regal and engine and not a lot of people know too that Luke Skywalker's land cruiser was built on a Bug chassis and running gear. A shame the three wheelers were never popular in Oz, there was a push to get them going in the US with the strange Reliant Zoe but Australia was not keen at all. The Bond Bug very nearly came back at the end of the last century Jonathon Haines running Reliant was pushing hard for a modern Bug in 3 and 4 wheel form using the Fox running gear for the 4 wheeler but sadly his plans came to a couple of prototypes then Reliant stopped trading not so long after so ended Britain's last mass producing car maker.
