trip canceled two weeks in a row in Delaware/Maryland, so enjoying my fishing weekend through your video. Delaware and Maryland are still pretty good at keeping the boat capacity at covid minimum. Florida is shoulder to shoulder! Crazy even with vaccine. Those red snappers! You’re killing it.

Yup, I was surprised how packed it was on a weekday. I always avoid weekends, which I think would be even crazier. Hope I catch those big red snappers when they are in season! Lol, I think we only get 4 days this year though.

Sweet man ! Came across your channel and watching this video I saw the boat out there with the dive flag and realized I was on the party boat this day 😅 pretty crowded for a Wednesday but definitely worth it

Nice! Are you one of the regulars on the boat? I still consider myself a tourist ‘cause I can’t catch Mangrove snappers like some of the regulars can. One day, I will be one of them :)

I will be hitting the boat with some buddies this Saturday for the first time. Do you know what the bite is like around this time.

What setup would you recommend bringing? How heavy is your rod and what size reel?
@theanglercrew7059 Жыл бұрын
I usually bring 2 or more setups. They are 30-60lb rods (Like Okuma PCH-C-701H/XH). Reels similar to Accurate Tern 300 in size is great for these trips IMO. I use one for chicken rigs and another for carolina rigs. I use 50lb braid on these boats. On Ocean Obsession, you can keep your spare rod with other spare rods in the stern area and switch back and forth. You’ll be fishing 6oz - 8oz on average (Some people go as light as 3oz if the current is mild). I personally use jigging rods regularly and they work great (Jigging World Nexus JW-NX701C-XH). Tight lines!

you seem like a northeast fisherman fishing in the south. great idea with the oversized sabiki / chicken rig. you were def on the bottom getting a lot of bites while most of the other patrons drifting those sardines on the carolina type rigs are probably not close enough to the bottom and they cant feel the bite with that rubberband mono
@theanglercrew70592 жыл бұрын
Good eye! Hahah I definitely learned to fish up north. But some of these guys with Carolina rigs catch trophy Mangrove and Mutton snappers, so I see myself slowly adapting what the regulars do around here.

@@theanglercrew7059 its true the sharpies on those boats will use long fluoro leaders and hide the hook well, prevent spin. Try a butterflyed ballhoo, long leader, keep letting line out slow, you'll get em I can tell you know how to fish

It seems you catch better fish on this party boat instead of Orlando Princess. I tried to book for this coming Saturday with them but it was all sold out so I’ll be going with a couple friends for the first time on Orlando Princess, any advice for beginner?
@theanglercrew70592 жыл бұрын
I'd recommend that you bring your own rod and reel combo with 50 lb braid and 40 lb topshot. If that's not an option, I think it's best to ask the deckhands for pointers during the trip. It will depend on the current. I recommend that you bring your own combo, because people who are new to party boats usually have a hard time feeling bites due to big reel, rod, and heavy mono line. Actually, cobias are everywhere right now and you have a good shot at hooking them on your trip. Wish you luck on your trip!

@@theanglercrew7059 Thank you brother for the videos and advice, I brought my own rod and I use a sabiki for a while and was able to catch a ton of fish including 2 amberjack that was almost a keeper, caught some remora, grunt, a bunch of Vermilion and Lane snapper, and a small black grouper, didn’t catch any keeper but I had fun, and like you said my 2 friends that had to use heavy rod didn’t catch anything

was this catch and release only? you seem to be the only one catching consistently..what's your secret? ( I'm going party boat fishing Sunday)
@theanglercrew70593 жыл бұрын
Red snappers are out of season on the east coast, so we have to release them. Otherwise, we can keep anything that’s in season. I honestly think that 50% is luck and the other 50% is bringing my own rod that’s lighter. I see many people who are new to party boat fishing missing bites because the rod is heavy and they don’t feel the bites. Party boats provide heavy rods because you can catch anything from tiny bait fish to big sharks and there’s less chance of rods breaking on big sharks.

@@theanglercrew7059 so did u have braid on it? And tie leader? Was going for my first trip soon, was thinking 40 pound braid and 80 pound mono for the leader, u think this can do it?
@theanglercrew70593 жыл бұрын
@@coffeebean9956 I think so! They recommend 50/60 braid minimum with 50/60 leader but 40 lb braid is close enough IMO. There are some regulars who go lighter, but some people will frown upon it because if one or two snappers are lost to broken line, that shuts the bite down. Good luck!
