Good review, nice car. I recently did test drive from polestar dealership in Sydney. 1st impressions were great where we decided to hire the polestar 2 for a couple of days through Hertz to get better feel longer distance. Overall we were not disappointed but a few areas which could be better but not necessary a deal breaker from our perspective. 1. The indicated range on the car was 540 km but we never got higher than 390km when fully charged, couldn’t be sure but we suspect the car was standard 2 wheel front drive, not the extended range battery or all wheel drive. Also interesting when charging recommendation on charge display to charge up to 90% to preserve battery, so guess that further restricts range compared to laboratory test figure’s therefore real world figure at best was 390kms. For the car given it’s size the driver an passenger front seats although comfortable should have more space where centre console between seats cramped the driver & passenger which gave the feeling of being hemmed in. The car we had with sunroof was nice but lack of headroom entering & exiting the vehicle was annoying where you had to duck to avoid hitting head, me being 5’8 that shouldn’t have been a problem. Lastly no idea why but high transmission/ raised section on floor middle of back seat, kind of got in the way, not sure why that was there ! Overall still the car was still really good but before shelving out around $85k on road you would still want to address usability and ergonomics, that said the car and quality was top notch. Still serious about buying but in that price range got to do homework. Ps polestar bringing out updated model year end 23, rear wheel drive and longer range so not really worth buying before unless it’s I want now. Hope this helps anyone looking.

Great, practical review guys. This looks to be a significantly better vehicle, overall, than the Model 3. Better in looks by far. A much nicer interior, by an even greater margin. They just need the charging network that Tesla have set up or be allowed to use theirs.

Great to see them in Australia. I'm test driving one in 2 weeks and am pretty happy to lay down the money if I don't find any dealbreakers in the drive. Did you see what it was like without the plus pack? All the additions seem pretty minor, and I'm worried about the full glass roof in the hot Australian sun

Excellent review guys. Test driving Monday so should be interesting. Unfortunately if you want Pilot or Plus pack you have to stick to standard range to stay within NSW rebate limit of $68750 dutiable value. Of course can still get stamp duty refund if below $78000.

I’ve had the long range two wheel drive for about a month now I love it . My only complaint is the foot waving thing to open the boot/trunk is hit and miss I tend to use the other methods. I do warn people to watch their heads when they hop in. Not ideal for a very tall person. The auto reverse brake has given me a few heart attacks. I turn mine off to reverse out of my driveway as the angle of the road can set it off . The cameras are great and audible warnings are enough to wAtch out for little kids etc

Would be cool if you could shift the 4wd model in a 2wd mode to increase range when you just want to cruise economically, but then be able to shift to 4wd for a sportier ride.

Guys can you give an update on range? I am keen to see how far the two are apart. I prefer the duel motor version, but i need range as i live in country NSW. Oh, also, any suggestions for bumpy country roads?

Nice review. I think you don’t give Tesla enough credit; their electric drivetrains beat everyone else hands-down in terms of the combination of efficiency and power. That said I can give up a little range and acceleration for a real car interior and more polished ride quality. The big downside here in the US is that Volvo dealers are refusing to service these cars as they do in Europe. I’m not sure about Australia? But that means support options right now are very sparse here.

I should have watched this before commenting. I like that the presenters showed that both Polestar cars were Volvo concept cars. There's a lot of indepth talk on how the car feels and especially rides which I find interesting. It's also interesting how some like the ride quality while others don't. I drove the car and it's wonderful. But I don't think, as an EV, it shines. It shines as a car. So, Volvo/Polestar needs to get cracking and get their dedicated EVs out that have the aerodynamics and range that vehicles like the Mach E and Ioniq 5 and EV6 have. But it is a quality first effort EV from Polestar and it is a somewhat affordable entry level into the brand.

I own a Tesla M3. Love it to bits. I’m very curious about the polestar, looking for a 2nd EV. But I do feel there is a HUGE plethora of features the TM3 has over the polestar which I would miss too much to be happy to convert… I will sit on my hands a little longer. This is no doubt a nice car, but comparing apples and apples. I wish this platform well, it will have no issues selling. More competition is better for ALL of us! I wish they reviewed the base model interior as that’s what most people would be buying into and comparing to the TM3.

Lovely car, etc. The problem with all EVs except Tesla is public charging when you're on a big trip. If it's not reliable you can get in real trouble. Try telling your better half and the kids that you're not going anywhere for a couple of hours because a charging station is kaput. They are more complicated because they have to accept multiple car brands and payment methods. So, not a good solution. Any long journey has to include an overnight stop at a hotel with decent charging facilities. They are lots of them around, and getting better, but you have to plan ahead. Happy motoring!

Odd comment to say you only think Android Automotive is fine because you don't like developing for Android. That has little relevance to most people. Talk about the user experience of Automotive - is it quick, responsive and easy to navigate? Does it have all the features that consumer would expect? Are there any tangible downsides compared to manufacturer-developed infotainments?

Finally an EV car worth considering, still too soon for one though.

Test drove a Standard Range Single Motor last weekend. Very impressive, clever and relatively affordable car. Convinced us to order one which we should have delivery of in about 2 months time, which will include a towbar. One detail that I've seen no mention of in the many reviews I watched on the Polestar 2 is the lack of any noticeable 'new car smell' which for us is a major plus. I have chemical intolerance issues and the chemicals that contribute to that distinctive odour are definitely not welcome in our case. Seemingly in keeping with their sustainable environmental ethos Polestar have avoided chemical inputs as much as is possible with this being the positive result. Very much looking forward to the 300+km winding drive home from the dealership in the coming month!

Are the brakes and Ohlins really worth $8k or does the standard suspension work well enough….. especially if this is your daily driver is the city?

if you are considering buying this vehicle. it is highly likely you will be frustrated by the level of dishonesty with their delivery timeframes. I decided to proceed with one through a novated lease, and was told delivery would be 3-6 months. I went to the Polestar website, and they publicised 'available now' cars. The number of these online, including the one I chose, fluctuated from 20 to over 80 within a couple of days. When I informed the novated lease company that polestar was promoting the model I chose as 'available now', he said polestar was having problems with this system and there was no way those vehicles were ready for immediate delivery. I said given the way polestar manages its supply chains there was absolutely no way that statement was credible. Fundamentally, Polestar are deliberately luring in customers to seal a deal by effectively lying about the delivery timeframes at their own website. I understand that there may be supply chain challenges, but lying about it is no way to do business or gain customer loyalty. Be very careful about what you are told, and if timely delivery is an issue for you, I would steer away from Polestar based on my experience to date.

Very good motorcars but that bloody weight as with all EV's = 2000kg+, nasty.

look guys as you already know, cool cars ( all ev's) , great for the environment, makes you feel like a woke person, BUT you can still get a used corolla for 15K and 35K in gas and maintenance can take you 10- 15 years. by which time they'll have much cheaper EV's. so pretty much like most cars we buy though STATUS symbols, yeah!

How do these manufacturers get so many of the little things wrong D’oh !!! Firstly, there’s no start / stop button in this or the XC40. There is in the diesel, petrol and hybrid XC40, but in the electric thru just put a blank in it’s place So, the Volvo group have removed an intrinsic layer of safety, it’s not a white goods, it’s your car, so you want the theatre and interaction, this for me is unforgivable, as I was so looking forward to buying one of these, but can’t now grrrrr Also, let’s be honest, these are only really four seater vehicles, so why use the less practical and archaic 60:40 split rear seats, instead of the better and more useable 40:20:40 it’s another school boy / girl error Also the key thing is a joke , I’m not 12, I’m a 48 year old and want a car 🤬 I think there are actually 4 models, the two single motor and two dual motor, if you include the performance package, which is a waste of money as no one is gonna keep getting out the spanner’s and putting this on a lift to vary them Have a knob installed to adjust it or in the massive centre screen grrrrrrr And finally, an even bigger crime than safety by Polestar, it’s not available in Swedish Racing Green 🚙🇸🇪 I’d hoped Polestar we’re gonna be the new Saab to their Volvo sibling, but sadly no cigar 😢
