Agreed, except they already know. It's just a CUV Cimarron. It's no different than the fwd sedans Cadillac has made for years. It's just that they used to have glimmers of hope like the Northstar or the Blackwing V8s. Now they are just hanging in there with cheap platforms and engines they have until they go electric and completely die. The only American cars worth anything anymore are V8 rwd, but they are all but gone. All of the good GM cars he listed are rwd V8 platforms, no coincidence. But the fact that sedans are gone makes it so much worse. It's so sad to see Barra destroy and humiliate a brand that was once the "Standard of the World". Cadillacs used to say "you made it" just by the way they looked, let alone how they drove, now they can't do either.

@jakelee5456
@jakelee5456 Жыл бұрын
The tragedy of the XT6 is that the car we got was never really intended for our market. It was designed for China. Johan De Nysschen wanted the US-market XT6 to be built off the CT6's Omega RWD-based platform, available Blackwing V8 and all. Alas, GM's gonna GM. The brass saw the China-market car would be way cheaper to build, and would never encroach on Escalade territory the way Johan's XT6 might've done. Cadillac made their EV intentions known (the Lyriq's concept sketches were shown at the XT6 reveal), and that was used as financial justification to not invest in a final high-end generation of ICE products brand-wide (V-Series and Blackwing stuff being the exceptions).
@earlmacmullin4688
@earlmacmullin4688 Жыл бұрын
Honestly, that makes a lot of sense about this particular product. It will be very very interesting to see how the future products of this size & price class within GM will be executed. Your point is a very valid "excuse". Will future products need a new excuse once they have moved to EV powertrains? Or will they put the money that is required into the interior etc. once everything is being built on some scalable skateboard platform?

Yup. When the XT6 was launched, I joined the chorus deriding this vehicle. Fast-forward a few years, I was in the market for a winter vehicle. I tested dozens of competitors before I pulled the trigger on a (gulp) CPO 2020 XT6 Sport. Despite its pedestrian underpinnings, it's actually well executed and has served me well. I really like that it takes regular grade fuel. What I don't like is that it's a pedestrian vehicle wearing a Cadillac badge - a brand that has some pretty decent vehicles but cheaped out with its crossovers to cave in to demands from its dealership network.

I’ve felt the same way about Cadillac interiors for a long time. They’re sold for luxury prices but they’re no nicer than a Mazda inside (actually, modern Mazdas may be even nicer). It seems Cadillac floats their luxury identity almost entirely on exterior styling and it puzzles me that people spend their money on this brand.

They've finally started to change this. The newest Escalade was their first foray into more-than-a-badge-job Suburban, but they have actually succeeded with the new Lyriq and its all-around superior build quality and level of luxury. Certainly one of if not THE most compelling vehicle at its price point (even with the stupid name. From what I have seen, it's mostly old people who buy Cadillacs. The stereotype exists for a reason. Sometimes I've seen middle aged people in them, especially in my time in Texas, but that is likely a case of buying some perceived image, not from making a choice based on research. They are just not a good brand based on reliability, quality, design, or value.

I think the one key point missing about what this car brings to the table: approachability; and namely, it's not European. Obviously, at a similar price, something like an X5 and GLE are head-and-shoulders better. But, they come with perceived (though not necessarily unjustified) European non-reliability, high complexity, high maintenance costs. I think this is a luxury car for someone who has spent most of their life driving lesser GM products - and this is a well-deserved trophy to feel like they have a luxury car, but truthfully never really was someone who was ever going to wrap their head around what it really means to own, maintain, understand a 'real' luxury car. Which makes sense for the retiree who finally just wants to get something nice and can afford to do so. The interior with a much less tech-forward dashboard (no iDrive or MBUX here), the regular gas, even the 'unsophisticated' underpinnings (NA V6, regular transmission, even the FWD architecture) - all work together here. And when in normal times, this comes with an MSRP-made-for-a-discount - this really is a car that carves out its own niche of a segment and really isn't to be confused with an X5. Just my $0.02.

I feel like this was designed to "compete" with the new Jeep Grand Cherokee L Same price point, similar features, similar market. But only if you consider the Overland or Summit trim for the JGC Where GM fails though, is the price. You can get more features in the GC for the same price, and if you don't need all the fancy crud, just go down to a Limited and option that up for ~10-15K less. For 74K you really could do a lot better, and shop imports too

But you could do worse too. You can get a “luxury” suv for 67K and be as bad as this

I recently rode in an XT6, a Jeep Cherokee and another SUV. The XT6 was the best at accommodating passengers, which included a tall person, a disabled relative who used a wheelchair, and other family members. The ride was smooth and quiet. We weren't racing anywhere, so a powerful engine didn't matter. I cannot say that the XT6 was the best SUV ever, but I wasn't paying attention to details like trim or headlights, just whether it was easy to get people into the vehicle, comfort and a quiet ride. I don't know if auto enthusiasts actually consider how average people and families think about what they want in a vehicle.

Makes me wonder if you've ever had a ticker, ripping the cars around as you do sometimes. A pile seems like a nice term for this, very expensive one at that. Knowing this could have been a Blazer makes this very appealing.

Drove the xt6 as a loaner while my 2021 escalade was getting recalls and free maintenance last year and although i actually found it to be a bit more comfortable it felt cheap since it's not several years old but freshly released and competition of the same category and price have a more expensive interior. i wouldn't say nicer but just more expensive. I care about comfort and usability more than actual design and looks. I like some things found on the suburban more than my escalade to be honest.
