The Donovan Duran case has stuck with me from the first time I watched it years ago. What those cops did to that man was absolutely horrific, barbaric, cruel, and it is absolutely disgusting that the cops got away with paralyzing him. Not only was he beyond compliant with the two cops, he was even jovial with them. When he slipped his handcuffed wrists under his feet, (to me) it was obvious that he did it just to make it easier for him to get out of the squad car. At no point did he threaten the cops, he wasn’t even remotely combative with them, and there was no need for either cop to believe that he was a threat to either of them. Remember, he was still handcuffed so it’s not as if he could have done much, if any harm to the cops anyways; even if he was combative. That they spiked him head-first into the concrete while handcuffed proves that the cops meant to harm him. They might not have meant to paralyze him, but it doesn’t take a professional to determine that spiking someone head first into concrete can do serious harm. The subsequent treatment of him afterwards is beyond inhumane. I just cannot understand how the people who reviewed this case were able to come to the conclusion that the cops did nothing wrong and decided not to indict them. I hope that I’m wrong….. But I would bet good money that neither cop even felt bad or had any remorse for what they did to him. He wasn’t some extremely violent murderer, he was fully compliant and just being brought in to dry out in the drunk tank. In my opinion, those cops were angry because they had dealt with him a few times already that week and decided to “teach him a lesson” that day.

Calling the cops to help somebody always gets them hurt worst so don’t call the cops unless you hear a gunshot or screaming like blood curdling screams cause they don’t help.

Abolish the doctrine of qualified immunity. Establish laws requiring insurance companies to set higher standards for government officials to retain insurability, demand transparency policies are in place and limit police unions' involvement in issues concerning people's civil rights and liberties, establish a nationwide database on officer misconduct, develop a civilian oversight committee (for each police district) that has the authority to veto every promotion and who to hire and power to fire and sanction police officers. I had gone to jail before where a cop took my money (later I found out that other jail mates would’ve had their miney taken too) and when having to strip naked I could hear in another room a bunch of cops cheering and having a blast probably men cops who were looking at the cameras. firstly, police need to respect people's privacy when they have NO evidence they have broken the law & more importantly, even if you carry a badge, it does not mean you have the right to treat people like dogs, they swore an oath to protect and keep us safe, NOT abuse or harass innocents. they need to get their facts streight.

So the Hanson one? She was in the wrong. Entirely. She violated vehicle codes and admitted to it, which gives grounds to request ID, regardless of state law. Her constant failure to ID would give grounds to arrest her. The fact that the crowd of people wanted to come up to the scene and crowd them while making the arrest would allow them to be arrested, because the officers have to secure the site. She was basically asking the crowd to form into a mob and get her out of the situation. So no, that wasn't an abuse of authority at all. The officer legitimately attempted to resolve it without incident and it was Hanson that escalated the whole situation.

A difficult subject to dissect. A 911 call, officers are received by an uncooperative person. What would be the correct action? How could they resolve the call? All the what if's need to be answered but the one person that could clear it up refuses to participate (like what if they just x'd someone). And all those what ifs are met by the person in question's reason for not cooperating. You can't force them, trick them or just do what needs to be done with out their permission. So what do you do?
