In this video I compare my June 2022 circa Crosman 2100 classic against my brand new Daisy 880. This is unsponsored content. I received the 2100 as a Christmas present and bought the Daisy 880 my own money.
This is my first modern 880 as my other two 880’s are from ‘92 and ‘86. It’s a shame how much Daisy has cheapened what was a classic American airgun. Kind of amazing how Crosman can sell a nicely made air rifle that is assembled here in the USA with some made in USA parts for the same price as a Chinese made Daisy 880. The feel of the two guns is very different. The 880 no longer retains the quality feel of the previous models that were manufactured in the USA.

Apparently the barrel inside the shroud needs to be fixed inside for the 880 accuracy. KZfaq has answers...

Cool! Just got back from 4th festivities a couple of hours ago. Took a little nap and... Tada! New video. 👍 Good shooting BTW. I like both guns in their old original metal forms. As MONKEY-vi7hx stated, the barrel in the 880 can be stabilized, actually in both guns. I don't know what hardware stores that you have in AK but we have Home Depot here and I use those 1 1/2 nylon spacers that you find in the hardware drawers. Use masking tape to snug the spacer up inside the barrel shroud, closest to the receiver. The old tapered barrel Crosman 766 actually had a barrel stabilizer in it but it was removed when Crosman moved toward the uniform barrel shroud. I've done a trigger jobs in both. You can get the 2100 exceptionally smooth. I think I've mentioned things I've done to both guns on your other videos. What I don't like in both guns is... No rubber buttpad. 😂 Iol I have the same pet peeve and I find it hilarious. I don't like the fact that both guns have been dumbed down to mostly plastic. 😢 It hurts my soul. Lol

@@jackpotparty58 Ha! This was one of the most time consuming videos I’d ever filmed. It took me 5 times to finally get it done as I couldn’t get both guns to shoot well at the same time. It was super weird and got to be frustrating. Neither gun stayed consistent. Probably just the nature of guns at this price point. I’d read somewhere else about what a guy did to improve his Chinese 880. I could see spending that time and effort on an older metal 880 but not on the current one. I have my doubts whether the plastic pump handle will even last on the new 880. The only plastic parts I’m aware of in the 2100 is the piston assembly. I’ve read that guys will order the Legacy 1000 piston and swap it out basically making a new, current version of an 80’s style vintage pumper. I suspect if both these guns were out on a shelf so a guy could pick both up and handle them, the 880 would be put back down and the majority of people would walk out of the store with a 2100.

I like both guns, but I think Daisy has the edge. Easier to load, pump, and shoot with a better trigger. Barrel Mod is easy and will make your 880 perform like a 901. Just wrap some elect. tape around barrel where the receiver holds it.😋

another great review both gun's are great and been around a long time. it is amazing the 880 is getting 700fps on a 7.87 gr pellet. for me l just love the 880 . the newer ones are assembled in china but it is a daisy engineering and the plastic is more of a high impact plastic same material used in the 1970's. the daisy material is pretty strong. even though it flexes or looks cheap it is strong material they use. it keeps the gun light but the internal's are very good design by daisy backed by 100 years of engineering. daisy 880 was thought of way back in the 1960's l believe they were planning of designing a pump gun and year's of planning they came up with the daisy 880. so the 880 is a well thought of gun design by daisy engineering. a true classic.

@@scotthanson4200 I’m always impressed with the simplicity, performance and ease of service and disassembly of the 880 design. But the new gun pales in comparison to the older models in terms of feel, appearance, sense of quality and pumping feel. I don’t see why Daisy is charging a similar price for the Chinese 880 as Crosman does for the 2100 classic? The new 880 should be around $20 less than the 2100 as they’ve cheapened the feel of the gun so much over the originals. I’m now curious to see if an older 880 can be retrofitted with the parts out of the current 880? For the price of replacement exhaust valves for the older 880’s, I’d rather use the new one as a source of parts but I’m pretty sure it isn’t a direct swap. I recall watching a video where it talked about using one of the other less expensive Daisy pneumatics as a source of parts. If it weren’t for both my existing 880’s not presently working I’d never have purchased the new one. I’m glad I get money from KZfaq videos to spend on new airguns because otherwise I’d feel I’d gotten ripped off paying $60 for the current 880. I guess it’s hard to get excited about a gun when the older models felt higher quality. I’m stoked about the 2100 and even though I know they cheaper out and used plastic parts for the piston, I can upgrade those parts if and when they fail. The rest of the gun will hold together as well as my 80’s vintage Crosman & Daisy pumpers.

@@scotthanson4200The performance of the new 880 is good. Not having wiggle in the stock was nice as well. I suspect an old style metal pump handle would fit right on, parts gun 880’s are often available on eBay. Now that I have this new one it might give me more impetus to repair my two older 880’s so I can compare them properly. I’ve read about guys swapping Winchester 1977 piston assemblies into their 880’s, I suspect we’ve probably chatted about that in the comments before. At the end of the day I still wouldn’t be happy with the end result inside the current 880 configuration. That’s just me, too much of a traditionalist for the old ones. Great vid buddy! Thanks for taking on my suggestion of comparison vid and being the first on yourube to do so. You pretty much coveted all the bases, ie trigger, pump action, quality feel, and accuracy. I agree the 2100 does well with the hollowpoints whereas the 880 not as much. I don't have an 880 but others have also commented it has cheaper flimsier feel. With that said I have its sister version the 901 which I find has a more solid feel and constructed more rigidly. It like the air arms falcon 7.3 grain pellets as they fit more securely in the breech. But like yourself if I had to choose between the two I would take the 2100 as I feel it has a slight edge in terms of accuracy, the metal receiver and made in the USA! Again great vid

@@greg4161 Thanks, great idea for a video! It was fortunate that I’d already had a new style 880 already on order. Unfortunately it just confirmed my preconception that it wouldn’t be as good as my earlier, metal receiver models. I guess that said, if someone wasn’t aware of how much better the earlier models were, perhaps they’d be much more impressed with it? Perhaps they’d view the plastic construction as a bonus making the gun lighter and more resistant to atheistic wear and tear? The pumping effort is very low and the gun Chinese 880 can show impressive accuracy at times. Still, when it’s all said and done, unless a guy is really in love with the looks of the 880 or wants an easier pumping effort (also meaning more pumps for the same given power level) I guess they’d pick it over the 2100? Still, I suppose Crosman has the lighter weight covered with the Legacy 1000? Hopefully I don’t alienate any viewers with my less than stellar review of a classic like the 880. But, I can’t (and won’t) act enthusiastic about a gun that doesn’t impress me. That’s the good thing about buying all my own guns. I’m free to say whatever I want about them good or bad. It was great seeing this comparison, liked that a lot, thank you! As far as getting random flyers, it might help your 880 to purchase the internal barrel stabilizer from Daisy. It's just a small plastic piece that comes installed on the 1977XS, but it will fit the 880 (there's already a hole for it on top of the frame) and should help with barrel movement and vibration when fired. You know those skinny barrels are a bit flexible and probably do vibrate a little when fired. I installed that barrel stabilizer on my 880's and it seemed to help.

Definitely could be! I’m neither enamored with nor excited that I bought a current 880 model. I’m disappointed in the direction they went with it.

I’ve had plenty of Crosmans which I quite like but I picked up one of the 880s last year and like it much more than I thought I would. I am worried it’s all owned by the same financial holding company now though.

I have the same concerns. If they close the factory and move Crosman production over to China I will no longer support the brand by buying their guns. I used to wear Xtra-tuff rubber boots until they closed the factory, moved all the machinery to China and restarted production there. The Chinese boots were total garbage. I switched over to Grunden boots after that which were made in the USA. They were a far better, more comfortable boot that were way easier to take off and on. I don’t know what to expect with the buy out of Crosman… I’m hoping for the best but expecting the worst.

@@airgunsofalaska I have bad news for you, the newer 2100s are already made in China, think it happened this year. Was yours made in 2023? Hopefully they keep assembling the 362s here...

@@MilledSteel Dang, that’s unfortunate to hear. I just checked my 2100 and it’s dated June 2022. I got it for Christmas this past year so it must’ve been sitting around for quite a while in an Amazon warehouse.

@@airgunsofalaska The 880 was a lot better deal at $35 a couple years ago, but it's tough to justify with the 760 still under $40 I like the heavier barrel on the 760 a lot.

@airgunsofalaska 6 күн бұрын
@@yoitired $35 was definitely a better deal! I’ve not looked at a current pumpmaster 760 but I’d think the barrel could be swapped out for a rifled version? Still, I’m imagining the rest of the gun feels cheap.
@yoitired
@yoitired 4 күн бұрын
@@airgunsofalaska Yeah the 760 stock and receiver feel cheap😄 The barrel is nice though it was the most accurate gun with bbs I've ever used, giving it a rifled barrel could be worthwhile since it's so incredibly light. The plastic pump handle on my Drifter fell apart pretty immediately, but with the 760 on its last leg anyway I took its pump handle for the Drifter and it feels a lot more solid than the original, just had to shorten it a bit.

@@yoitired I dislike the new pump handles that come on the Drifter and 13xx guns. I swapped out for the older style so I didn’t use the original one very long. I shot a ton of BB’s through my ‘81 760 as a kid. The rifling is still visible in its barrel.

bsa , crosman ,benjamin, daisy ,are all gamo owned , sheridan brand also and mayby more if gamo wants to reborn those, brands like winchester weatherby are also not made in the usa and many more winchesters are made by miroku japan /and turkey weatherby was also japan and now turkey. china brands dont have to be junk , the make very good airguns also . like turkey also; if they can make shotguns and other 22lr for 100 to 200 dollar retail , why should they make shitty plastic die cast airguns , its greed fot more profit , but they will loose buyers at the end

@@peteralexben Well said. This current Chinese 880 is overpriced for what you are getting. This is even more evident seeing as how the 2100 is priced the same. Daisy is living on name and reputation alone with the current 880. Now that they own Crosman and Gamo in turns owns Daisy and I think it’s all owned by some larger private equity company or something along those lines I now wonder if it’ll be a race to the bottom for these two storied American brands? The Daisy 1101S impressed the heck out of me for its performance and accuracy. The 880 feels like a junker Marksman quality level gun in comparison and they only differed by about $20 in price. The Crosman 2100 compares more favorably. In any case it’s fun to compare different guns and by purchasing them myself I have the freedom to be critical of the product or manufacturer.

The more I read and correspond with other airgunners the less I believe the sponsored “influencer” channels who get free guns from the manufacturers. I’ve got another new gun in my video queue that I’m holding off showing. The all fluff no facts guy gave it a glowing review. So far it’s not lived up to that and I’m grateful I’m not the only channel who’s had issues. I’m not yet pissed 😤, but if things don’t start turning around with it I’m going to give it a scathing review. I’m getting really sick and tired of bullshit “influencer” KZfaq reviews.
