Iyer Idly, which is one of the most sought after Idly destination in East Bangalore, has opened a new branch in Koramangala. Very close to the Forum mall, this place has the same Darshini style ambience and vibe as their main branch Vignan Nagar. Since it is a busy narrow road, car parking may be a challenge.
Iyer Idly, traditionally known for specializing in idly, has expanded its menu over the years. Initially adding Vade, they later introduced Khara Bath, Kesari Bath, and, more recently, Coffee. These new offerings are also available at the Koramangala branch.
The idly here is arguably one of the best in Bengaluru. Krishnan Mahadevan and his mother Uma Mahadevan have adhered to a precise process for over two decades, from selecting the proper Idly rice and Urad Dal to fermenting and steaming the idlys for exactly 12 minutes. The result is silky soft idlys that are larger than average and slide down the throat with ease. The grainy texture from the idly rava adds to the idly's appeal. The chutney, finely ground with coconut, roasted channa dal, and green chili, is another standout. Its smooth texture and spicy flavor complement both the Idly and Vade perfectly.
The Udin Vade, fried to a golden brown, is crispy throughout and not greasy, reminiscent of the Udin Vade at Raghavendra stores. It enhances the idly experience. Although the Khara Bath was sold out during our visit, the Kesari Bath at Iyer Idly was quite good, with a smooth and rich texture. The meal was completed with a delightful filter coffee. With prices comparable to other idly-specialized eateries, Iyer Idly offers some of the most perfect idlys in the city. For those who missed Bhramins, Veena Stores and Raghavendra Stores sort of an idly place in HSR, Koramangala, BTM vicinities, Iyer Idly has come as a saviour.
