Fantastic series Ryan! So many details with specs and part numbers. My plan is to get an old 454 from a junk yard or motorhome and tear it right down and build it back up with goodies. Eventually to go into a Chevelle. Project with my kids. Your series has been so helpful. Kids have enjoyed it too! Can't wait for the next installment.

I can't believe it. I didn't listen to your advice about checking the water pump rear cover bolts. I'm all ready to crank my car for the first time and I found a puddle...before even cranking it. The gasket on the rear of the pump has swollen like cardboard.

Why didn't you primer the block before you painted it black?

did the 454 big block corvette use those oil lines for an extra oil cooler?

Usually external oil coolers were used in big trucks especially useful when towing large loads. Thanks for watching!

Regarding your oil filter adapter, yours is a basic adapter. The OE for my application, as you mention, is for the 2 oil cooler lines. Should I keep those, or is it ok to remove that system and just put a basic adapter/filter system in?
@2carpros
@2carpros 3 жыл бұрын
You really don't need an oil cooler unless you are towing a bunch in hot weather. Thanks for watching!

Why would you paint the mating surface of the fuel pump and water pump??

I agree. You want clean metal on the pump mating surfaces, not paint.

If it were me, I would paint before I did any of the building. When I build my 5.3 it's gonna be Chevy orange. EDIT: Must be nice to do the fuel pump on the stand. Had a Holly throttle body injector (pure junk) for a while the eliminated the mechanical pump on my 305. Switched it to an Edelbrock quadrajet and had to reinstall the mechanical pump. I coated that rod in heavy grease to make it stay in the block just long enough to install the pump without falling out. Talk about a fight...but in the end I won.

Orange is a great call! Yeah it made it really nice. Nice work sticking it out!
