Stage 4 & final discussion/conclusions about our experiences with the CETME-L rifles at 2G-ACM.
We're shooting the CETME-L rifles that we hand built ourselves using an HMG builder's kit!
This really is the test of our work, will the guns run? Are they reliable? Accurate? Also, what's the CETME-L like to use on the clock? That's what these 2G-ACM stages were used for to find out.
If you didn't see our multi-part series in which we built these rifles from parts kits, check it out: www.full30.com...

Very true concerning the time-stress. I do pretty well slowing down and shooting clean with the rifle, but tend to rush and suck on the pistol, particularly on kinetic targets. I have been working with the timer in practice, but still make hits. I think the additional stress of "dudes watching dudes" is what really sets of the time stress for me.

These challenges are fun. And informative. And the conclusions are pertinent. CETME-L looks nice but doesn't inspire me much confidence. I would have been built one just for fun though. Unfortunately I don't live in the US... thus I'm not allowed.

Karl, 1/ If it ain't broke don't fix it also means whatever works ,works. 2/ If it's stupid but it works it ain't stupid. Why a Lebel case worked, and oh perhaps 8mm Kurz did not, does not really matter. Is there a better product or concept or idea ? Almost certainly. So what. Making arrowheads out of flint, chert, obsidian or optical glass discards does not matter. Thing is,some people go mental unless there is a part number fix and a shop manual written chapter describing said fix. One of the surprises of my adult life was finding how many times the shop manual got it wrong, and a major important repair at that. If you are satisfied with repair, quality, reliability etc. Then you also know where and what. One thing. Memory is quirky. Write this down on an inventory card somewhere. All of the fixes to make it work, plus various bright ideas or suggestions that were not needed this time but might help elsewhere. Bet you will need some of that information elsewhere sooner than you think. Cheers.

damn, these challenges looks quite fun! over here it's already hard and expensive to get an hour at an outdoor and/or long distance shooting range, we're celebrating the extension of 4 lines to 50m at my local range, because that makes it the longest distance civilian range in the area =/ Might try to get into IPSC, we do have a handgun course

The eye relief on the Susat is pretty bad. 25mm or just under 1 inch. Anything over 556 will net you a nice black ring around your eye.

TechGaming45 Hmm well its been at least a good 5 years since i left school (CCF) so i can't really remember. Fucking googling the shit just gives annoying video game stuff in both red and green so thats not reliable. I do remember it had a nighttime glow, as if you broke one it was a radioactive substance risk like with old watches. The big memory was a nighttime exercise with the L86. seeing fuckall through the optic and just mag dumping into the darkness. Haha good times.

watching the split screen it seems that any advantage Ian had by running was wiped out by a fast miss or two no sense in elavateing your heart rate I am with Karl on this one, over the relative short distance the time defferance is not that much if the corse required a run between bays it might being 60 and Haveing a bad heart Karls tactic gives Me hope

Seems like certain gear, like Ian's clamp on bipod, could reasonably be allowed to be swapped out if he did it on the clock in a stage and retained it. Or does that just encourage spending the extra cash on quick detach mounts?

Susats aren't a bad sight but far from great. Decent for the era really all considering. The reticle is nicish but takes up a little too much of the picture. It works well enough for snap shooting with reasonable eye relief. They are heavy as hell but are indestructible (like above aimpoint indestructible). If it had a different more traditional crosshair it would be a better sight. That said I think there is a version for 50s that are more traditional but obviously not designed for a rifle.

At the beginning of November, the CETME C and the rest of the rifles converted to semi-automatic mode for sale to the civilian market will be practically prohibited after a modification of the Spanish Arms Regulations. These weapons cannot be sold or transferred, and in the event that their owners lose their licenses, these rifles will be destroyed. And magazines with a capacity of more than ten cartridges are now prohibited and must be delivered to police stations where they will be confiscated without compensation. Part of our gun history will be lost, and the shooters will become quasi-criminals. I have a CETME C "civilian" with which I remember my times of military service and I am really sad.

Ian won this with Agility, but Karl's strategy not only avoided the 10 second penalty. He also stayed Calm on the clock. That's really hard to do, and I'm willing to bet, he beat the crap out of the other shooters that aren't insanely agile, like Ian. Is this the first one where he beat you, that soundly, with his Agility? This was a couple years ago. I'm just going to assume the 2 CETMEs are similar enough to balence out any technical difference in the gear.

Just an off the wall suggestion, how about doing a shoot with top of the line kit, along the line of Ian's Suarez Glock and a really good rifle each. You could then compare it with your Cetme's and historically accurate pistols. Or is that too mad?

Original Santa Barbara ammo for the CETME L series was even worse. Enough for its use to be forbidden at NATO level on gas operated rifles in the 90's (1994, if I'm not mistaken). Not that I have used much Wolf ammo, but still...

this would have worked better if the middle or sides had been a knockdown target (or hinge target within a larger bracket), too easy to 2 2 2 on reflex without penalty. Fun idea for a stage tho.
