Karl has a heavily modified AK74 and is trying to get it to work for the upcoming HaH 2Gun match.
In this video we shoot the final stage and discuss the performance of both of our weird guns - did they perform? What went wrong? What went right?

Ian's buttstock placement was legendary with the cosplayer, I feel like I'm in on the joke now. Interested to see how the AK performs at Hard as Hell! Does Ian have a plan for what he wants to do with the G3 I wonder, or is it more because he just wanted to have a G3 he could actually shoot just for giggles?

One thing I've always liked about what you guys do is the way you test out other systems. Not everyone has the option of using a tricked out M4 because we all are limited to what our units allow us to use in the field. It's not always possible to use the latest state of the art, especially since that state moves so much so often..... Thanks for such a well rounded look.

There is something quite satisfying with seeing that AK bolt move just fast enough to cycle the action and have so little recoil. That tuning is really nice!

I am so glad to be wring about the magazine, now that you gassed that sucker up it seems rather reliable. We didn't really get a chance to see the bi-pod in use, I hope it works out well for you. And Ian, classy gun, maybe add a thing or two, just don't magnetize the rails and dump it into a barrel of Tap-co and Zendico products.

I'm digging the jacket Karl! Wondering if you guys will do anymore camo videos, especially comparing some of the more modern patterns that have come out like the aor2 you're wearing here. Maybe a comparison to what's come before and what kind of improvements have or haven't been made?

So it seems the general rule for making a "modernized" anything, cut as much weight out as you can and put an optic on it.

The G3 is absolutely freefloated (at least when stock). The handguard is mounted to the cocking tube. The cocking tube is not attached to the front sight tower. Some come with a "spacer" where the bayonet lug is, but that is really only for import purposes and not a stock item for normal G3 rifles.

My wife and I have turned all InrangeTV range content into a personal game of "Spot 2B"... The obvious acceptance of "2B" is what finally convinced my wife she would be ok with starting training with me... but only if we can make match days in Arizona... We live in Dallas

I tried, but I can't be a fan of the HK. That reload. The slow, double motion to unlock the charging handle and then shift your grip to pull it back. I know Ian doesn't like the FN, and I understand that for a left hander, but as a right handed person, the ergonomics of the FAL are for me, overwhelming.

Nice video! I am a G3 guy! Do you think you can revisit the mud test with the RDB as you completely dunked it vs the way you pour it on with a shovel now? Just think the dunking was unfair to the way you do it now.

Karl you should look into trying out the midwest industries 30mm ak scope mount it sits much lower than the rs mount and gives a much better cheek weld which would give you faster follow up shots i could never get use to the chin weld on the ak and g3 platform with a scope it would always take me noticeable longer trying to hold the chin weld and get on sights than a nice cheek weld.

I'd either use a 1-8 variable, or the 1x/3x/9x Elcan on a battle rifle, if just to take advantage of the greater range capability. That said, eye relief on Elcans is typically very short.

You should look into a 36-degree locking piece and a PCS heavy buffer for that G3. It really tames a lot of the .308 recoil and makes the gun even nicer to shoot.

I think we already have that, just look at the changes that took place over the following 35 years. Not so much what would Winchester do but what did Winchester already do? Yeah, could try modern materials or someone might try an extended box mag if it could be done without the mag getting in the way of the lever. For me though as soon as you take away the tube magazine they loose their clasic looks and handling and then I loose interest as in the Savages, the Browning BLR or Henry's Long Ranger:) just my 2 cents When Ian has been asked about updating and reproducing some cool early semi auto rifle, his response has been something to the effect of, if you modernize an old inefficient action you're going to end up at the AR or AK actions, so you just Might as well buy one of those to start with and save a lot of trouble along the way. With that line of thought, can you imagine a AR with a lever? With semi auto restricting legislation in place the possibilities open up. Really, could it? Really? :)

Did the rules specify that you had to move "backwards" between shooting positions, ie left shoulder starting on the left side or right shoulder starting on the right side, versus instead going right shoulder on the left side and advancing to each subsequent shooting position? The way I understood the stage brief was simply "shoot one pass strong shoulder, one pass weak shoulder, begin on either side"

It seems to me that with an already heavy gun, accessories should have to fight for the right to be added, whereas if the platform itself weighs almost nothing you have more "weight budget" for adding things like bipods without making something ludicrously heavy.

Hey ian, have you considered a 3x magnifier? I have the original 3x magnifier from Aimpoint, it's great behind the Comp M5. I don't think it's the best option for everybody, I like it for what I do.

I don't know if it was just the camera angle but Ian really seemed to blur the line of what counts as behind the barricade. When shooting from left shoulder should a stage designer require you to shoot from the left side of the barricade and vice-versa?

The G3 is supposed to be free floated on the barrel, the fsp and cocking tube aren’t really connected they just meet, my old boss was bill Fleming, and he said that hk Germany considered it to be a free float, I was always dubious of this because the fsp is still on the barrel, but does that affect this if the fsp isn’t attached to the rest of the gun?

Additionally...he shot from the right side of the barricade going both directions, except for the final target. So...no advantage to using the barricade as a rest, OR for using it as cover/concealment.

Sooo I have a question, that your comments about the bipod made me think of. since I shoot my RPK often, which would be more accurate in terms of Barrel Harmonics, using the bipod or having it folded up?

In a non- or poorly free-floated system, the issue is that putting weight on the bipod can transfer that force to the barrel and shift the POI. If the force is not constant, the POI shift will not be constant. When the bipod is not in use, it's position will not make a practical difference, and in a properly free-floated barrel this does not happen.

In the second round, Ian has much more of his torso exposed, the barricades might not even be there at all.

What I don't get is why both Karl and Ian move against the shoulder they are currently shooting from. I.e. when moving from left to right Karl is shooting from left shoulder instead of the opposite, making moving a sideways hop or crabwalk. I watched the walkthrough of the stage twice to make sure I didn't miss something. Wouldn't moving from left to right while shooting from the right shoulder and vice versa be easier, or is there some unspoken rule to these events I am unaware of?

It's inevitable that both those gun will be ban so I came up with idea start reproducing the m1 Garand in different calibers, have one in good ol 30-06 and have options all the way down to 5.45 or so if those intermediate rounds are still legal and still clip feed with a max of 10 or the legal limit if it is less.
