Stanhope is great, and from the one interaction I've had with him, the nicest dude in the world. As far as the cigarette and drinking, there is an exception when it's for "stage art".

If you ever have a chance to watch Louis CK's FX tv show, Doug Stanhope costarred in season 2, episode 9, where he played an old stand-up friend of Louis' who is suicidal. It's funny and powerful at the same time. It was the first thing I'd ever seen Stanhope in and he was amazing. After that, I looked up who he was and started watching his comedy.

Man I love that you guys checked this out. Please do his bit Mother and the possiility of an After-life. He has a very dark sense of humor, I've read his two books and listen to his podcast, and he's dark as shit but man is he a funny guy. Pretty damn smart too, he's a hero.

That was NYC in 2008, I think. The first thing he said he was going to be smoking for the whole show because a loophole in the law allows you to smoke in the context of a theatrical performance. "So if my indoor smoking offends you, makes you jealous, etc., maybe... vote next time. Take the time to figure out what the fuck is going on in your community." Doug is legend.

Shooting in the cemetery is a great idea. No chance of accident because.. everyone's already dead! No I have fond memories of being able to to pop up the road from a friends house to this finished with, old cemetery and just line up bottles and stuff and pop them with .22's. Back in the the day's when kid's could be kids. Only time I ever got close to hurting myself was from climbing trees, then finding a rotten branch to break, rack my nuts on the way down and *flumph* on the grass -still funny later on, when I stopped sounding like... Betty Boo! Cool video guys, and you reminded me of of fun times. -Owen, from Scotland btw, but visited the states a lot and loved every minute of each state I've visited, more on the list. Take care, and have a good one.

I don't know if it's different in Canada, but I think in most of the US you can get away with smoking and drinking on stage, because it's protected as part of the performance. The audience isn't allowed to smoke, but a performer can because it's considered part of the act.

Thank you gents for taking my request. I'm happy to say I'm one of a couple, or many, or whatever. Jim Jefferies is another guy is another guy who gets drunk on stage regularly. I've seen him twice live in large venues, and both times he's been pissed drunk at the end of the night. My next suggestion would to do his bit on gun control. You can find it in two parts on youtube. I understand you guys are gun enthusiasts, and will not likely agree with his position. But you will likely find it twice as funny.
@davebcf12315 жыл бұрын
Stanhope gives zero shits about what he is and is not "allowed" to do generally. You might have recognized him from the old Man Show on Comedy Central. When they tried to reboot it after Kimmel and Carolla were gone the replacement hosts were Rogan and Stanhope, so also funny you mentioned Rogan. Him and Stanhope are good friends.

Funny how you comment on how this must be an old special because he is smoking, when in this very special, that isn't as old as you think, he talks about why and how it is he can still smoke on stage when the rest of the audience can't. It's due to artistic expression and license and if it's part of a play or a stage performance, it's legal to do so. Same as if you see a play and there is a scene about a poker game and some or all are smoking and drinking, doesn't give the audience the right to spark up or pop open a bottle. (Edit) Even though they serve drinks in the lobby, during intermission.
