Thanks for the great video! The way you don’t waste any water and have all the systems laid out neat and tidy shows your efficiency and craftsmanship. I’ll never be caught doing it other way now

Another great an very important video Lisa. This is the stuff a good guide needs to know. Plus I never herd that saying but it is funny as hell an gets the point across

I first saw this system in the Canadian military. We all did our own dishes and I thought it was funny that we had to do a bleach dip until I was told it helped prevent shitting my pants. I didn't know the whole prep/disposal process until this video. Thanks Lisa!

Awesome video! Most people don't use this vital information. I've used a similar set up since the 80's.

Thank you very much! Doing dishes in the wild so important, so not sexy..like running a rapid or building a fire but so, so important. Thanks for watching.

I've often thought illness while on the trail could be related to how the dishes are done. Its often blamed on the G word. In our food safety and GAP good agricultural practices we are now required to meet in our wild blueberry fresh pack systems we need a hands free water source in the field while harvesting, the water is pumped with a foot pump for hand washing. I'm trying to put that system into the bucket as well. Nice system you present. I have to give it a go.

Great video. But where do you store the buckets? In the food barrel? I do lots of portaging and I want to reduce the bulk and not have to perform multiple carries. Would you have a solo or two person version of this?
@Mainepolingguide
@Mainepolingguide 3 жыл бұрын
Joseph I don’t store it in anything. I just carry it like you see it in the video, but the overall weight isn’t so much that you couldn’t carry it on top of the barrel you have on your shoulders and just hold the bail as you walk so it doesn’t slip off.

So when you’re ready to pack out where does the bucket with the bit of bleach go? It can’t be dumped in the woods right? Love your videos and all the info.

Yes. It can get dumped in the woods. Like I say in the video, it’s a very small, food grade amount. Thanks for watching.

HI Lisa, another well thought out system! Quick question, where do you transport your dishwashing system? do you divy up all the needed items in your canoe and your client's canoes? I am just trying to plan for a solo trip as well as multiple canoes/people, and I am running out of room on the solo. thanks again and keep the videos coming, they are very helpful!

Dan when running multiple canoes the dishwasher tied in like all other gear can go in any canoeists boat, even the least experienced. It’s not gonna hurt anything in there if it gets wet. It fits really nice behind the stern seat, upright or laying down as long as all the soap and bleach are tightly closed. I have even used it during a boat rescue standing waist deep and bailing the boat of water so the pull system could unpin a canoe. Those buckets dumped way more water than a bailer.

The common mistake is to rinse the dirty dishes at breakfast and “we’ll do them tonight” and then that night you have no idea which dishes have been rinsed and which are actually clean. Or people gear the entire food menu for no dishes, where the bulk of the food is eaten straight out of hands not being washed. Plus there isn’t really a menu for no dishes…maybe no plates per say, but you will always have dishes. Think of how miserable you are with any bout of anything intestinal at home and picture that in the middle of nowhere.
