Hey Lisa, just found your channel. The glasses tip is a game changer. I hate changing from sunglasses to my readers to tie line and read a map in my canoe. Never thought of such a product. Ordered a pair just before our 5 day canoe trip in the ADK. BTW, my wife is from ME and her grandfather was a poler. I never gave it much thought but you have me intrigued. I had dumping while running a rapid or having to portage more than I should and would give anything to slow it down like you said. Stringing together several drops in a row is where it gets really tricky. I'm very comfortable standing in our 16' and 17' Old Towns or Mad Rivers.

Sean welcome to 3 Minutes. Thanks so much for checking us out and commenting. Yes. The eyeglasses is key. So much better. Like you I need them for tying knots and reading maps. Slow is the key to rapids, you’re driving a vehicle with no brakes. Happy paddling.

Lisa, at some point, would you please do a video on your favorite books /suggested reading list for canoe tripping and/or related books to read on a canoe trip? Maybe even some books to help get people through the winter months when the lakes and rivers are frozen. Lol

Make sure you tell your wife, wilderness canoe tripping is the paragon of wilderness travel. You never have to be cold, or dirty I’d you do it right. And on top of that you’re literally traveling.I g on top of your food and water.

Indeed helpful, especially the tape for the bugs! How come I didn’t think of that! I do it for lint on the clothes.

Thanks Lisa, those are great comfort items. I’m gonna hunt ‘em down and add em to my kit, as I cull out stuff that’s hasn’t proved their value. Bug idea with duct tape: gold! Your sister’s journal covers are terrific! Aside: do your packs use waxed canvas? If not, what are your thoughts; pros and cons? Thx!

Mine do not have the wax, and shed water well. Of course I have real dry bags inside the canvas pack. Mine are Duluth and Alder Stream Canvas.

Another good one Lisa! How do you pack and protect such a large journal? (I love the bug idea with duct tape!)

Todd, it goes inside a gallon ziplock, which it just fits and then inside my large map case.

What was hanging on the back of your hat? A bug net? Why don’t you use an inflatable PFD? I always use one and they are so much cooler and convenient. Thanks again for all your great advice.

Yes, it’s a bug net. I get asked that all the time. I don’t use the inflatable PFD for 2 reasons, one I need the pockets for key items if I’m ever separated from my entire canoe outfit or items for a boat rescue and 2, in cold weather I open it up and use the insulation for my feet. I’m always looking for multiple uses for what I take. Thanks for watching.
