We've lived with the Kia EV6 for some three months, covering nearly 2500km and a whopping 75 hours with the ignition on. Is it all the EV it's cracked up to be? Does the novelty of its concept-car design wear off?
We've driven it across multiple conditions to find out. We've tested it long-range, chalked up its efficiency numbers and how much it costs to run, and we've used it as a mobile office and coffee cart.
In this video we'll also talk about how much it costs, whether it's worth the money and how it compares to its electric rivals like the Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5, or even the BMW iX and Audi e-tron, and what kind of lifestyle the EV6 is best suited to. We'll also cover what this car feels like to drive, what it's like to live with, and any annoyances or flaws which have come out of the woodwork on one of these longer-term tests.
As usual we'll cover our usual set of criteria, which also covers practicality, design, safety equipment, and the ownership terms Kia offers. But we'll also cover off this car's unique EV offerings like its V2L functions and what you might use them for.
We'll also talk about whether the EV6's 480+km range is enough for most buyers and discuss how and where we've charged it up, plus how much it costs.
Finally, as a long-term review, we'll cover whether it's a car we'd like to actually own ourselves. Watch on to find out.

I have been driving my Ev6 GT line RWD everyday to work for a year now and done about 24k on it. I still find the drive exuberant and thrilling. Unlike a Tesla, the design still turn heads and their notorious rarity make them unique.

Thank you for a great, and immediate video, with a great focus on details. I have a EV6 Performance AWD with upgrade and assist package. The design is really delicate from every angle, and it looks nothing like anything else out there. I love it! 🥰 I´d like to add 3 things. 1. You can tap and hold in 3 sec. the area [Ventilation/media] on the panel, and choose the functionality you´d like as default. 2. You can remove the screen protector from the panel - and it looks glossy and beautiful underneath! I have done it myself in my car. 🤩 Don´t stop because its not coming off that easily - just scratch with your nails in one of the top corners, and it will eventually come off. 3. Pull and hold the right padel of the steering wheel, for activate the AUTO regen. It´s bringing such a joy for your daily driving experience. Enjoy! 😎

Dream car (along with Ioniq 5). Ended up ordering Model Y for 12 months waiting period on EV6 and then decided to ditch Tesla for GV70 ICE. Interior wow factor is really important for me personally and Tesla while minimalistic is too much for me to get used to. Kia EV6 ftw. Personally this is how I would rate non-luxury electric SUVs Kia EV6 > Hyundai Ioniq 5 > Tesla Model Y

I've owned this car in matte gray for the past year. Nearly perfect vehicle other than one major flaw: terrible Meridian audio system. I think the hardware is decent, but there is some kind of software issue that makes it sound very underpowered. Pretty much every owner I know complains about it. Hopefully Kia can resolve it with a software update down the line.

Seems so expensive in Australia. My EV6 awd was $52k. 2.5 cents kw to charge at my house. Best car I've ever owned. Only drawback is not having access to very many Tesla chargers. The public charging in the United States is not great. But I rarely go on long road trips.

I was just driving behind an EV6 and then the traffic light in front of us turned red. I noticed that the brake lights of the EV6 didn't turn on, which really surprised me because I didn't realise that car was slowing down. I assume the driver has single pedal driving on but I totally didn't expect the brake light not to turn on. Honestly I think this is very dangerous and they should fix it. Can anybody with an EV6 or Ionic 5/6 confirm this?

_"The sun roof prevents a 6 foot tall ( or above) person from sitting comfortably in the front seat"_ -- not really true. I own an EV6. I'm 6'4". I'm perfectly comfortable in the front seat. Different people are built differently. But only a person with a _really_ long torso relative to the rest of their body would have trouble with the roofline. No doubt such people exist, and maybe you're one of them, but it's incorrect to generalize to overall body height. Most people, even those over 6', will be fine.

'traditional SUV' is a jeep Cherokee or Ford Explorer. An SUV is a sport utility vehicle with at least some ability for off-roading. These Kias and basically every vehicle sold today should be referred to as 'high rise hatchbacks' because that's precisely what they are. Maybe a vehicle such as a CX-9 could be referred to as luxury SUVs but I think even that's a stretch. It's odd that we don't refer to today's equivalent of the traditional SUV (such as the MUX, Fortuner etc) as SUV's. There's nothing sports about a CX-3 yet journalists love to refer to them as such.

You do know that SUV stands for Sub Urban Vehicle right? You’re referring to an SUV crossover.
@je2338
@je2338 9 ай бұрын
@@engineeringtheweirdguy2103 no. SUV stands for Sports Utility Vehicle. The phrase 'Crossover' was not associated with SUV. During the late 90s, Crossover was used to describe vehicles like the RAV-4. SUV was not used to describe that vehicle. An SUV is typically a body on frame vehicle like a Toyota 4Runner, Isuzu MUX etc that are vehicles capable of off-road.

We ended up buying one of these. Overall, it is a good car. It's smaller than it looks in videos, but it's as long as they say it is. A few things that suck for me: -We received a model that had the touch sensitive buttons, rather than the new one with physical buttons. But obviously, that isn't an issue for new buyers. -The steering wheel is a little odd compared to my civic. Honestly, the civic has a better wheel that feels more natural to hold. I think the problem may be that the spokes are too high up and the wheel is too thick. This is also subjective, though. -The biggest issue we found so far is that the car literally WILL NOT charge on hot days. This only happens on level 2 home chargers and I'm pretty sure it occurs because the charging port is getting too hot so it disables itself to protect the hardware. I'm not sure whether or not it comes after some time owning the car, or if it was already a problem to begin with. We got the car in winter so we didn't notice anything then. Apparently its a pretty widespread issue that is happening with a lot of EV6s and even Ioniq 5s. Kia and Hyundai haven't shown any interest in fixing it so far. There are some other minor gripes like how cruise control will not turn on if the sensors are dirty or covered in water. It should come with a standard basic cruise control system just in case, but it doesn't. A lot of other people aren't having any issues but I guess that's the reality of owning something with new technology. It's never a smooth ride.

@amperformance7998

@@australianmade2659 Yeah. At the manufacturer's claim of 18kwh/100km (which the car can easily beat), 70km requires 12.6kwh. Connecting to a 350kw DC fast charger allows the battery to charge at a rate of about 240kw, that is 4kwh per minute, or a little more than 3 minutes for 12.6kwh. It can charge from 10%-80% in less than 20 minutes.

@amperformance7998
@amperformance7998 Жыл бұрын
@@australianmade2659 there aren't many yet. Most are located on major interstate routes for travellers. Not in cities where owners are more likely to charge at home. But more are being installed all the time. And there are many more options that are slower, but not by much. A 150kw charger will give 70km in about 5 mins. A common, but slow, 50kw DC charger can give 250-300km while you get lunch.

Another reviewer conflating one-pedal driving with efficiency. Learn about the concept of blended braking. Nearly every EV that isn't a Tesla smartly regenerates when you press the brake pedal. The most efficient mode is freewheeling, which is almost impossible with one pedal. (Admittedly, most 2-pedal systems won't do it either.)

Please don't tell me the car actually tries to steer itself to keep you in a lane! It would be bad enough putting up with an annoying audio alert, let alone a car literally trying to control itself on the road. THat to me sounds incredibly dangerous. I actually know how to drive properly and if I'm ever steering away from a lane it's for a good reason. Debris on the road, a massive pothole, an animal, a child, a vehicle out of control. I do NOT want my vehicle working against me when I'm driving in an optimal fashion. That is ridiculous and so very dangerous.

It does try to steer the car to stay in the lane. Honestly, if the feature worked better, it'd probably be great. But I agree with the assessment in this video; the system doesn't work very well, with it constantly hunting as it negotiates slight bends in the road. It also requires very clear lane markings. Though, IMHO the worst part is that without clear lane markings it will turn itself off temporarily, but without any overt notification. The active indicator on the dash/HUD will blink a little and then go grey, but when you're driving it's easy to miss that. So when you are expecting the car to do the work to stay in the lane, sometimes it won't be, which could lead to problems. Personally, I just keep it off for the most part. Only if I'm on a divided highway with really good lane markings and Kia's "Nav" support (i.e. the highway is in their nav database) will I trust the system to help with the workload. Even then, I'm always ready to take over if it starts acting wonky.
