In a potential "Situation," I choose a more 'passive' stance. If I suspect a guy might be about to start something---I simply hold my hands in front of my chest, palms OUT...as if to say, "I really do not want to DO this." But from that position, I can both react, and MOVE very quickly; I've trained myself to do so. In this way, I provide a possible way to prevent a fight in the first place.

That’s what we were trained in Krav Maga to do have your hands out in in passive manner I’m a millisecond away from the target

after a few years privately practicing my martial art, i've also noticed the "surrendering hands" are the best compromise in defense-offense, as well as forming some kind of "prison bars shield" in front of you (notice what your forearms are forming when you surrender, 2 vertical bars in front of you, plus your palms, that can shield you from a lot already; injuries on arms are survivable, hits on your head and torso are more fatal). it doesn't appear like i'm readying for a fight, which is a plus point in case i am investigated by the police, i appear innocent, i look like i was just defending myself.

Attacks to the eyes are great for self-defense. Almost everyone will go into "oh fuck"-mode when they are struck in the eye(s), even if you miss. And unless you are particularly vicious, it generally causes no permanent damage.

Wing Chun proverb. Your reaction depends on the situation. My Sifu said once you engage it should be over in 3 seconds. Don't be exchanging blows. Look where their balance is. Or really isn't. If they step in hard, side step and use your body to knock them off balance. Then start throwing elbows.

Excellent video! I just had two comments. (1) Structurally speaking, Tan Sao is not that great for hook punches. Biu Sao does the job nicely. (2) While the Straight Blast certainly is a good technique, I don't know that I would label it as one of the deadliest. I've sparred with guys who, if they were able to block the first punch, then they were able to block them ALL. It has to be used at the right time.

I would recommend you do the wing chun regardless of what you may think of your physical limitations unless you're legitimately at the point where you have a lot of difficulty doing basic movement. If you're capable of something like jogging, and have full mobility, it should be good. It'll teach you good body mechanics that even if aren't used for competition may come in handy in a pinch, and may help you prevent future health issues. Even with my wife, I simply teach her the stance just so she can realign her back because she'll start getting pain. Wing Chun teaches you to stack the spine, which helps alleviate stress in the lower back. That's just an example. It can be done with little stress if that's what you want. I'd also recommend Tai Chi. Personally I think Tai Chi mechanics go more in depth than Wing Chun, and carry the same benefits of understanding your body and how to prevent injuries that you may have been leading up to for a decade or longer due to improper alignments or unnecessary stress on ligaments etc. You don't need to perform like an athlete with either of these two styles and both have meditative focuses as well to at least some degree. They both teach you to fight without muscular resistance to strenght when unnecessary, so the stress shouldn't be too high for you so long as you take your time with it. Muay Thai and Juijitsu on the other hand no matter what will require that level of physical strain that may be difficult for you. You could also look into other internal martial arts like Xing Yi, or Ba Gua. They all take a gentle approach, but can be applied in a very stressful manner and can be taught in the manner of someone doing Muay Thai or Jiujitsu, but don't have to be. I'm sure any instructor would be willing to work with you at the pace you require, even if it has to be a once or twice a month private class. Some places are good with private classes since they're more pricey. One Wing Chun school was a bit of a distance away. Their policy was if you do 2 private classes you're free to show up to any public class you want. But besides all that, internal arts in many cases preserve the health aspect which is great for someone concerned with their physical body. It'll if nothing else gently make you more limber and maybe take away some chronic pain. But internal arts are also applied externally, and something like Tai Chi can create massive force through their biomechanics because they took the time to understand the body.

You can also finger jab and they'll react just enough to throw off your intended point of attack and you'll break your finger and that hand will be fooked and ultimately taken outta outta the fight. Personal, I don't want to even think about a potential broken finger in specially in a fight so I prefer to sacrifice the extra 3" and use an open palm instead. An open palm hit to the nose can/will make your opponents eyes water, blurring their vision for future attacks or a speedy get way and depending on how it's delivered will send their nose to into the back of their head. Very effective and the chances of you hurting yourself are greatly decreased... But it's whatever tickles your pickle.
