Hiya Joe, I qualified 21 years ago and Ive found myself glued your series of videos. I can always remember my eyes glazing over in college all those years ago, on some ac theory lessons including this! You are so good at explaining and making what was once a seemingly difficult topic, easy! If only you were my tutor back then!!! I think the beauty of these videos is you can pause and rewind until it sinks in, pausing and rewinding is difficult when your sat in a classroom! Keep up the good work Joe👍

Thank you Joe. With Covid-19 closing college, online teaching isn't going well. I've just completed the 3-phase Star & Delta principles section of my level 3 C&G book as best as I could, not understanding it. Having just gone through your videos on Star & Delta tutorial videos on KZfaq, I have now gone back over this section, answered the calculations and my understanding is much clearer now than it was before I started. Thanks again.

Nice and informative video. I just want to add something. Since you are showing a three phase system which is connected in wye (star) and delta that means you are dealing with AC system. When you are dealing with an AC system try to avoid using the “R” (resistance) as loads, use “Z” (impedance) instead. The reason is: in an AC system, resistance is part of impedance. Impedance has two componnents-resistance and reactance. I hope you don’t get offended as you intend this for the beginners. Thanks.

Hi! Great video by the way - learned a lot. One thing I am still trying to figure out is the power. More precisely, is the total power calculated by simply adding all three or is there some tricky formula for that? And just to be on the same page, here is my problem: I have a star configuration generator, I used your calculations to determine phase voltage and current. I suppose I can now simply use P=VI formula for each phase. And since each coil is a separate load it has its own power output (probably not said the best or right way). Can I now add them to determine the total power if there was no other way of measuring it? Question #2: When I rectify the output using a three phase full bridge r., does something "weird happen to the power output?? Thank you a lot for answering and have a great day.

Fairly simple in a star connected system, you just end up with different currents in the three phases, it's a little more complicated for delta.
