In today's session, we explain how you can have a perfect ball toss and serve faster and with more consistency using 3 Unique Drills
the biomechanics of a tennis ball toss
Preparation: The player starts by standing in a stable position with feet shoulder-width apart, and the tossing arm holding the ball is extended straight up towards the sky.
Initiation: The player initiates the toss by flexing the wrist and elbow of the tossing arm, and then moving the arm back behind the body. The player also begins to transfer weight onto the back foot in preparation for the forward movement.
Acceleration: As the player shifts their weight forward onto the front foot, they begin to extend the elbow and wrist of the tossing arm. This creates an accelerating movement that generates the necessary force to launch the ball into the air.
Release: At the top of the toss, the player releases the ball with a flick of the wrist, while simultaneously extending the arm fully.
Follow-through: After releasing the ball, the player follows through with the tossing arm, finishing in a balanced and stable position.
Some of the key factors that affect the effectiveness of the toss include the height, speed, and accuracy of the toss. To achieve a consistent and accurate toss, players must pay close attention to the timing and coordination of their movements, as well as their overall body position and alignment.
In summary, the biomechanics of a tennis ball toss require a combination of strength, coordination, and timing, and it is a critical component of an effective tennis serve. By understanding the key principles involved in the toss, players can improve their overall performance and consistency on the court

Very good tips, thanks. Last year, I changed the way I hold tennis balls when I serve. I hold them with my palm down now.

Steve best thing I ever did as a 20 something was hire a coach. Turns out there was a reason I liked his game he was a former City of Toronto champion. That was 47 years ago I'm still learning from him though he's pushed up to many daisies to possibly count. His toss was controlled no higher than necessary. Most importantly simple yet deadly accurate. His arm motion also enhanced his body's uncoiling can you guess how? I just remembered how the other day in fact. At first for a newb it looked impossibly perfect. His serve was rhythmic but clutch was his body served the ball the arm was simply the culmination of all that inertia. The trick was he raised his arm along the axis of the baseline which enhanced body uncoiling because it maintained the perpendicular attitude of the body right up to ball impact. Rhythmic because as he raised it along the baseline axis, he could extremely accurately place the ball right where his body could clobber it most efficiently. Yet he could maintain this rhythm, power and accuracy effortlessly& endlessly. It also was easier to toss a little* ahead of the body into the court. With the ball moving slightly ahead this supercharged the uncoiling. Hope I've described it well enough because it isn't a radical toss it just optimizes the serve in most if not all key areas. As you can imagine years of perfecting that toss made his serve fluidly efficient, effortless yet powerful, deadly accurate yet versatile for kick, slice, flat with imperceptible changes so it really got into your head. A thing of beauty you had no time to admire, just getting your strings on it was a major accomplishment. It's a J-toss alright but very easy to keep your arm straight. I think this was key to it's consistent success. The arm sweep enhances rhythm and balance as you fall into the ball. Yet I've yet to see any pro use this sideways toss and have no recognized name for it. Can you please do a segment on the Australian Twist serve? All I can find on You Tube is it's a slight variation on the kick serve. No one seems to teach it but I'm sure this is how one of my opponents is jamming me up with her body serve. Handcuffs the receiver so effectively it becomes a major psychological weapon! Thanks Steve the toss has to be the most underrated tool in tennis, yet critical to the most important shot. So always interested in it's mastery. Great video if not a tad distant and dark but content was excellent! 📹👏

I learnt to keep the ball toss in front , into the court thru serendipity...I was playing in a tournament & since the sun was shining into my eyes, I wore a cap..now my ball toss automatically went in front of the visor if I had to see the ball properly, thus my momentum always was forward towards the ball..

It's a fine line but forward momentum always helps serve speed and shoulder impact. To ace the technique hit the sweetspot at the crest of the toss and crest of your leap simultaneously. Do that and you'll know it when you achieve it. So many intricate steps but worth it. 🎾
