I was just released from the hospital two weeks ago from Sepsis and a scary low potassium count. I had 5 IV’s going at once. When my doctor was talking to me about it, he started naming off symptoms and me wondering what ANY of this had to do with my problem. And there it was. EVERY SINGLE THING. Low blood pressure (mine runs mildly high), passing out, fatigue, heart palpitations, foggy thinking, muscle spasms, tingling in my arm and fingers. I was shocked and stunned. A doctor that FINALLY believed me! A doctor that didn’t give me “THAT” look, like I was there trying to score drugs 🙄). It really was real! My life turned around almost immediately. Please ask for your potassium numbers when you go in for your next check up.

I eat a plant based diet mostly and for first time in my life got heart palpitations, thought I was dying! Turns out potassium was very low! One thing he didn’t mention was constipation is an indication of potassium deficiency. Be careful! Get tested for potassium and magnesium because they work together. Bananas, almost, peanuts, and V8 juice all good sources of potassium but get checked. I learned a hard lesson.

Other foods high in potassium are: 1. Dried apricots (but only organic so they don’t have sulfurized preservatives) 2. Avocado 3. Coconut water 4. V8 Juice or organic equivalents of vegetable juice 5. Carrot Juice Also, competitors for absorption of potassium is sodium (they work with each other) and B vitamins. So anytime there is high intake of B vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B6, B12) or high sodium in the diet, potassium is a must. The liver and kidneys use potassium as energy currency to detoxify the body, if you have high toxicity in the body that the liver and kidneys are trying to cleanse, they will burn through potassium intensely. So load up.

Coconut water is the highest source of potassium. About 500mg per 8oz. How come this was not mentioned! If you get it with no added sugar and not from concentrate is the best. This is the closest to your body's own fluids and is balanced with 5 other minerals that work together.🤔

I don't have any of those symptoms. I used to though. What did I change? Ironically, the biggee was beginning to eat (lots of) sea salt. I also haven't eaten mainstream foods in decades. Once ya' get back to living a natural life (as best you can in this crazy way we're living), eating as nature intended (no extreme diets, like veganism), you no longer have to micromanage all the nutrients and such. Nix the refined stuff as much as you can. Focus on eating good organic produce, free-range meats, organic herbs/spices, either minimal raw dairy or, more ideally, none. Calcium intake is not only overrated, it's harming our health (like, er, fogging up the brain, causing muscle cramps and heart palps). The need for it is overblown due to eating crazy (franken foods, and other creepy stuff like "soda" ... non-existent in Nature)...
@toriarose
@toriarose 8 жыл бұрын
+Toria Rose Oh, I also don't take vitamin pills (I had many of these supposed low potassium symptoms when I did), which is also likely not that helpful in the long run (I took lots of them over the yrs, learned that costly lesson) nor do I eat bananas on a regular basis and I eat no dairy. And no dried fruits or oranges. I do eat greens every day (at least at one meal), and that's your best focus (greens and other fresh produce) along with nixing the crazy calcium intake, especially in pill or pasteurized form.

I don't know about what is happening in other countries, but here in Australia all potassium supplements have been removed from the shelves of stores. Reason is apparently people can treat it somehow to end their lives. So the rest of us (99.9% of the population) go short of potassium while the .01% might do something wrong with it. I could really do with a potassium supplement right now as I have major deficiencies and eating potassium rich foods just makes me fatter. So I have to stay sick because someone else might want to end it all. Not fair!

A cup of 100% carrot juice will bring the heart rate down within 5-10 mins. I love Bolthouse Farms brand, sold at most Walmart & local grocery stores. No added sugar as carrot is sweet enough on its own. Works miracles! I used to have irregular heartbeat with skipping/high pulse. Now every now and again I feel my pulse jump and because the carrot juice is liquid it gets in the blood stream a lot quicker. This is during an episode. Increasing potassium overall will prevent and reduce the attacks. Also, reducing anxiety, stress, frustration levels through prayer, stillness, deep breathing, exercises, focusing on calming Scriptures and enjoying nature outdoors will help tremendously. Faith in the Ultimate Healer can't go without being said. *** Be mindful that certain drugs and treatments with medical doctor makes us where we have to limit our potassium, one example is dialysis. Hope this helps.

Of course no mention of lack of sleep can cause all this too😂😂😂. But honestly it can. Also I have all these symptoms minus the palpitations. I do feel Like my heart is weakening sadly. I think because I have disordered eating as well as maybe to much organic apple cider vinegar?

@Freemason Xxx I agree about how basic this info is, but when you have people such as my friend who asked me what's a mineral when I told her to make sure her mother was getting a good quality supplement to help with her cancer treatment, I was beyond shocked that someone in their 50's didn't know about minerals. Sadly for many this isn't so basic.😭

As far the potassium supplement, it does work well for muscle cramps, you only need take one 99mg. Potassium gluconate is used as a mineral supplement and sequestrant. It is sold over-the-counter as tablets or capsules providing up to 593 mg of potassium gluconate, thereby containing 99 mg or 2.53 mEq of elemental potassium.

He forgot to include potatoes, sweet potatoes and squashes. A medium potato has literally TWICE the potassium that a banana will give you. If you eat a large baked potato, you're getting literally half of a full day's supply of potassium right there.

for each vitamin you need to completely overhaul your lifestyle to be able to cram enough of it into yourself day by day. But since there about 20 vitamins, this gets simply unmanageable. Your stomach turns into an overloades biodigester of compost. When I just try to force myself into receiving enough calories to not stay skinny I get a constant heartburn from the overflowing stomah acids trying to dissolve those overflowing heaps of biomass I need to stuff into myself on a continuous basis. Its much easier to eat like a human not piles of "healthy” grass like a horse and receive those unattainable wacky chemicals through a pill 💊.

Heartburn and slow digestion can be too little stomach acid/enzymes. I have autoimmune issues and that the case for me. Without adequate enzymes the stomach sphincters don’t get the signal to tighten up, causing leakage from relaxed sphincters. I take enzymes within 30 minutes before eating a meal. It has helped a lot in controlling heartburn and acid reflux. A few diet changes help too.
