I tell you what as a retired vet I understand the struggles of working towards getting the body to move the weight like it use too after a long lay off. I been following you for awhile and I have to say this has been the best video for me yet. Deadlift is my favorite lift but it has been off the past few months. Today was not even a dead day for me. After watching this video I had to put these tips to work and all I can say is thank you brother. Hell I’m typing this in the gym right now. 😤

Agreed. The tuck-in-your-chin-tip I've only known from one of your previous videos. I don't think I've seen that tip anywhere else, except maybe at Alan Thrall or OmarIsuf. Works wonders and actually stabilizes your head so you can rep out more and not feel like getting too much blood pushing up in your head (imagine not getting head pumps from all the pre-workout duh)

I watched the series and then applied it. Either I was having a really good day or the cues made a difference. About the only thing that I forgot was chin position. I was moving my hands and legs out too much. Bringing both back into line with my hips and shoulders did increase leg drive. Lots more to work on.

Great video! Can you also do a video like this for squat?
@BoxxOFFICIAL
@BoxxOFFICIAL 3 жыл бұрын
Hear that narrowing your group means reduced ROM a lot, but surely a wider stance also reduces ROM. Therefore, I would bet (dependant on the individual) the start and finish positions of the bar would likely be the same. In which case, taking a stance and grip which allows you to produce more force is optimal.
@blademontane
@blademontane 3 жыл бұрын
Great tips. Not helpful to me yet cause I don't have enough weight at my home gym to think about making PR's at the deadlift, but I can practice these cues with the lighter weights until I can. I've just nabbed myself a free fairly big truck tyre so I'm gonna buy myself a decent sledgehammer and start flipping it and murdering it soon thanks to your old videos. Wouldn't mind if you revisited some more conditioning work and how to program it in, especially with tyre work, cause of that.

Love your videos - wish you were in the NJ area! Question: what are your thoughts on sumo stance? And, more particularly, have you any tips on how to focus the muscle contraction more on hams and glutes when in sumo? I used to conventional DL, but after a car accident and subsequently tweaking my back, I switched to sumo and found that though I can complete the movement, I’m not feeling the same contraction I used to with conventional. Maybe due to the very nature of sumo, it simply won’t be possible to feel as strong as a contraction to the posterior chain as you would in conventional. Any thoughts would be awesome. Maybe even a video addressing same. Stay safe!
@StrengthHacksCoaching
@StrengthHacksCoaching 3 жыл бұрын
To use the glutes/hams more in sumo, try to keep your torso upright by sitting down and back to the bar, and never looking down at the bar. Looking down at the bar will make you slightly lean/round forward. Also do wide stance box squats, really helps build muscles used in sumo

Thx for the tips! I'll give them a go. However, I learned from Andrew Lock that you can reach your head back in the bottom position and as you rise up, you move to a chin tucked position. I unfortunately don't remember the rationale and I can't find the IG video where he covered this. I asked him for the video. I'll link it to you if it turns up. I don't mean to dispute anything you've said. I just mean to offer a different rationale. For myself it'll be a bit of trail and error.

Going in, working towards a 1 rep max and doing something else is still my go to, and it has helped me reach the 210 kg mark with little to no plateaus.
