Hello guys and fellow veterans...I am a 67 year old vietnam vet that fell into this rabbit hole back in 2016. They are a genre all their own and are in a bubble all by themselves. The further you get into their songs you will figure it out yourselves. If you could though you really need to turn their music up. We can hear you but not the music in the video

Suga got shoulder surgery due to being in a car accident before they debuted in 2013. He was out delivering food on his motorbike when he got hit by a car and damaged his rotater cuff. He didn't tell the company in case they stopped him from debuting, not telling them until a good while after, instead he lived with the pain for years doing all those very complicated and intense dance routines. It finally got to a point where he could no longer move his arm or lift anything heavier than a bottle of water, after doing ON and Black Swan choreo (definitely recommended Black Swan btw). He decided to have the surgery so he would be able to do his military service when the time came and just so he had a better quality of life. Suga is my bias because of this, and because he has struggled with depression and come out of the other side. He's not afraid to talk about it either, even though mental illness is still such a taboo in Korea.

Dionysus is one of their heaviest/rock songs. There isn't an official MV, but if you watch the 2019 MAMA awards it's an amazing overview of their biggest songs. Suga will be doing his service, just more likely in the social services arm. He was hit by a car doing deliveries when they were still trainees. He was afraid of getting kicked out so he never really reported it, just danced in pain for 8 years. Switching back and forth with English happens in the majority of their songs, but they also have a couple where they switch back and forth between Korean and Spanish. They also have full Japanese albums.

The saying about "If a crow-tit walks like a stork it will break its legs" isn't exactly about staying humble. It's basically, "don't try to pretend to be someone bigger or better-class than you actually are, because it'll just end badly for you." It's not just about humility, it's about upper classes telling lower-class people to mind their place, and elders telling the younger generation that they shouldn't get above themselves. (To which BTS's response is, unequivocally, "Eff that noise.")

Not Today is inspired by one of the famous quotes by Martin Luther King Jr., “If you can’t fly, then run. If you can’t run, then walk. If you can’t walk, then crawl. But whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.” It's all about fighting authority and "breaking the glass ceiling." Its 2017 releases coincided with civil unrest in South Korea as a response to governmental corruption. RM confirmed as much when asked about the song by the Korea Herald. "I wrote the lyrics for BTS so we do not stay silent against social issues and injustice and continue to solve it and raise problem," he said. "We talk about social issues, read books and meet with experts and ponder together. We still have a long way to go, but we will think hard and embrace criticism." The lyrics of "Not Today" speak of overcoming obstacles and keep fighting, while instilling hope in oneself. In the opening lyrics, RM calls out to "all the underdogs in the world." It discusses the theme of anti-establishment that was featured in their previous singles "No More Dream" and "N.O.", through lines like, "A day may come when we lose/ But it is not today/ Today we fight!" During the chorus, the band speak of rallying against injustice, corruption and irrationality; "Don’t kneel, don’t cry, raise your hands Not not today." The line, "Break the glass ceiling that cages you" references the idea of breaking all invisible barriers that stop people from succeeding. The lyrics addressed social and political issues (they are trying to rally the youth and let them know life is worth fighting for, possibly in response to the extremely high rates of youth suicide in their country from a generation that feels lost, unempowered and desperate.)💜💜

Suga's shoulder injury (hit by a car as a bike messenger) happened years before he got proper surgery for it. It happened right before debut so he opted for pain management for years instead of the surgery, and all the dancing and physical activity made for pretty significant wear and tear. He only got the surgery when they had to take a break due to lockdowns. By that point it was becoming more apparent that it was really bugging him during performances.

Suga will still be doing some sort of service. He has had his injury since almost 2013 when he got ran over by a car and barely got surgery on 2021 because he could no longer avoid the discomfort and pain. He hasn’t recovered completely. But he wants to do his service too. The whole “he won’t serve” is just rumors spread by Antis, we have to wait til the actual announcement before making assumptions. He wants to represent Korea just like all the other members. Also it was the company and government that wanted to exempt BTS from service because they bring so much revenue to their country but BTS didn’t want that, they wanted to serve. And they got so much hate from an exemption they never asked for. Their company and government were literally not allowing them to go. I’m just bringing this up because it sounds like you guys are making assumptions in regards to their service as well and is not fair to them.

Crow Tits translates to underdog basically! Crow tits have tiny legs, storks have really long legs. The expression “A crow tit trying to catch up to a stork will break its legs” can be related to poverty, privilege, generations and more, basically any situation where it almost doesn’t matter how hard you work, your can’t be expected to succeed.

So a crow-tit is a bird with short legs. It’s a reference to their generation having a disadvantage (capitalism, education, society etc). That other song, Baepsae, is about storks with long legs telling the youth they just have to work harder to achieve success, but they ignore that younger generations are priced out of housing, can’t find good jobs or are offered jobs for “experience” but no pay. They’re basically saying to the youth “rise up, we’ll stick together and survive.”

All good choices; and the 2019 MMA Performance is a must see. When they are ready for that mind-blowing visual, and musical spectacular. Someone once said that it was so nice of BTS to allow the MMAs to be held during the concert. I loved that comment - and once you see the performance you understand. I love your reactions so far, and hope you keep exploring BTS. Just one word of caution - as you make your way down the BTS rabbit hole, you will reach a point of no return. Unfortunately (or fortunately) you won't know you have reached that point of no return, until it's barely a speck in the distance behind you. All we ask of any new reactors is to give these seven wonderful guys a genuine chance. Listen to a mix of their music, Black Swan - as listed above - is one of my favourites; and Outro Tear is a suprisingly raw and emotional song, that means a lot to ARMY - and you'll be told why, when you listen to it. But I would also and House Of Cards, or The Truth Untold, both by the Vocal Line. A few other songs I will recommend are Blue and Grey; Airplane Part 2; Danger; and N.O. The last two being from quite early in their career. There are so many more songs I could recommend - like Magic Shop, Mikrokosmos, and Run BTS (the song, not their variety show) all of which there are only live performances of; or Louder Than Bombs, which there is only a lyrics video for - but there's plenty of time. Also, while most of their MVs have captions, some of their earlier ones don't. For those I would recommend the channels 1theK, or Enjoy BTS More, both of which do excellent translations. Although , I am not quite sure why you were having difficulty, because Not Today came out in 2017, and has English captions. Just look for English in the list of languages available (you went past it several times). But it's good you found them in the end 😂. Just never turn on autogenerated. It's.... Just don't. So welcome to BTS, from a 54 year old ARMY from New Zealand 🇳🇿. And I look forward to video number three (no pressure). Borahae 💜

Crow tit is a small bird that is used in Korean analogies as a disadvantaged bird trying to to keep up with long-legged storks. It also is significant that they mention bulletproof as BTS originally stood for Bulletproof Boy Scouts (Bangtan Sonyeondan )

great reaction! so far, you guys are few of the reactors I like because you are really paying attention to the lyrics. I'm 48 years old and I got into BTS not just because of their singing and dancing but because of the message they send trough their music which resonates to a lot of people. Many reactors only care about their dancing and singing. Others only care about the instruments or the vocals. Others even say that they don't need to understand the lyrics as long as they can vibe with the music which is fine but for me, understanding the message of the BTS songs is the most important. Thanks for reacting to our boys. SUBSCRIBED!

USAF veteran and mother of 2 USMC vets here👋💜 One of which, my daughter, has said that as a Marine she's not ready to be called ARMY, lol, but she'll happily secure our perimeter 😉🤣🤣 So fun to share BTS with other veterans like you! Not Today was the song that made me an ARMY and dive headfirst into the rabbit hole, because of the lyrics, especially those that you missed in the beginning. I hope you will take time to go back and check them. Among them are words by MLK,Jr. Dealing with PTSD and major depression, the message hit me HARD. Learning that some of the members also suffered from depression, social anxiety, and other mental health issues, and *they sang about and spoke openly about their struggles so that they could try to bring healing to fans* , I viewed their lyrics as reaching out a hand to me, offering me that "together we won't die,No, not today!" We can keep moving forward, together. Use us as your shield while you get to a place where you are happy and fully Love Yourself. We'll give *everything* of ourselves and our youth to be your defense.... That last part, especially from the military perspective of being there for your "brother"-in-arms, is something you see in their work ethic, in every performance, where they just throw EVERYTHING they have onto the stage...for ARMY. Not Today also has a choreography version of the MV that is worth watching. Watch for the heavy artillery 😉 Nowadays, their discography is so vast that many special "WOW!"-factor videos from their earlier years get lost in the shuffle, and many new ARMYs don't even know they exist. One of those is the Intro Performance Video. I HIGHLY recommend you watch this early in your journey! Funny footnote for the video is the reason behind it. Early on, because they came from a small, uninfluential company, they struggled to get broadcast as the industry was controlled by "the Big 3" entertainment companies (think Disney owning ABC and only allowing their contracted artists and actors to be on ANY shows). One performance they were able to get, the camera work was so deliberately bad that BigHit made what is essentially a Diss-video, showing the performance from the camerawork that *should* have been. The performance is OMG outstanding, and imagine dancing in their shoes! Get the wife to let you listen to Fake Love the LA pedal version, from her Love Yourself:Answer album(disc 2), and commit yourself to going with her to the next concert opportunity, even if your journey doesn't lead to you becoming ARMY. Their shows are spectacular! (Oops, just realized your channel isn't the ARMY husband's and he might not read all the comments. Please pass along the suggestion✌️💜) You might enjoy a few more MVs before doing introduction videos because their discography is so varied, but I see that a few medley performance videos have been suggested. Since she knows you all best, how about letting ARMY wife guide you through the suggestions? I'm looking forward to watching your reaction to xCeleste's most updated "This Is BTS ARMY". Final note: Lyrics. Lyrics. Lyrics! This group talks about real things, not just candy coated love fluff. They are multi-level lyrics mostly, where you can engage at the level you are ready for. From superficial/don't analyze anything, to personal for your own understanding, to the message they intended sending to fans, to the personal meaning for the member or group (knowing more about the group history, when the song was released, and the issues they were dealing with helps), to the meaning as it relates to the album and series arcs, to the meaning as it relates to the alternate BU (Bangtan Universe) storyline (lol, a whole other kettle of fish😉 better left for advanced study🤣), and to other perspectives on what the song meant for others. Actual college papers and professional conferences have been made to analyze BTS,their music, and effect on the world. Fans will tell you that it starts with their lyrics. Most of their official MVs have captions, with only their very earliest sometimes needing to be accessed via channel 1theK (an independent distributor service for small companies whose viewcounts are processed as official data for all charting platforms/purposes) for captions. I'd suggest checking to see if a MV has an explanation video from Koreans to help fill in cultural, historical, literature, or translation gaps. If dkdktv channel has one for a MV, then there's probably good reason for it. There's plenty of us that would be happy to watch a solid deep dive into reach song. I'm looking forward to your journey! 💜💜💜

I seldom comment because it's a hassle but I do want to clear some of your confusion and explain a few things so you can understand a bit more where BTS stands. One of the first things you should know is that BigHit entertainment was a tiny company when BTS debuted, meaning that unlike groups from bigger agencies that have been long established in Korea and have power over media (tv, magazines, etc), BTS did not enjoy an easy ride where they were well promoted because of lack of connections. This also means that BTS was looked down upon by said media and were relative unknowns in their home country for a long time. The driving force behind BTS was in significant part ARMY and the internet. Because BTS shared so much of themselves on the internet, ARMY shared equally as much about their performances which were on another level for the time (and while they still are excellent, the industry has since caught up because... BTS) BTS and ARMY basically had only each other to rely on and defend themselves against numerous attacks from other fandoms who were growing jealous over their growing popularity overseas. BTS didn't become a household name in Korea until around 2018, mostly because they won a BMA the previous year and then made history at the AMAs, until then, they were mostly known by internet kpop fans and their local fanbase. (Nowadays, anyone not knowing who BTS is in Korea is unimaginable) Another point to note is that two of the members, rappers Suga and RM were both fairly famous underground rappers before joining their company. At the time (and it still slightly lingers today), underground rappers looked down on kpop rappers because most of them were 'not" actual rappers. And so joining a kpop group was deemed like abandoning their roots and whatnot. Due to that fact, the members received extra backlash from hip-hop fans for trying to be 'idols', and backlash from kpop fans for not fitting the 'standard' (which they now have come to define). This explains why quite a few of their songs take digs and diss people who looked down on them. The rappers' cyphers are famous diss tracks, but they have many more, like Mic Drop which will have definitely been recommended by now. BTS heavily participates in the themes and lyrics (even song composing) since the beginning, a move decided by their producer Bang Shihyuk who wanted them to tell their stories. This is important because it explains a lot of the vocabulary they utilize in their song, including baepsae (crow tit). The crow tit is a small bird as you have seen, and it is usually used as a metaphor to refer to the lower class, those who have no privilege, aka silver spoons. BTS highly identifies with this because of their own humble beginnings, but also as part of society. As a group, BTS used their voice to talk about social inequalities between youth and boomers, between the high class and low class, and between the expectations of people and the realities of our times. This is a point that strongly resonated with many because it was a real discussion, not a song about some shitty love somewhere. Hence, the more people dug, the more people got interested because not only is the music good, but they actually talk about some real things and are not creating just earworms. BTS' early discography was a lot more hiphop influenced, but like any artist had evolved over the years. They have dabbled in a lot of different genres and listening to an album from beginning to end is an interesting journey in both sound but also story. They craft each album with a theme and a story that flows through each song. They also incorporated an alternate universe story through their music videos and albums, which was novel at the time but commonplace nowadays because... BTS. Basically, if BTS did it, it's the norm now. I personally believe that after 4-5 songs, you should try to go through their discography chronologically because it shows growth as an artist, but also as a human being in these times trying to make sense of things through whatever knowledge you have at the time. It will also make you appreciate how these 7 men started with nothing, and build a trusting relationship first with their company, and then their fans and they are very aware and humble still about that fact. To also answer a question to your previous video, Map of the soul; 7 came as a surprise to fans because the series of album was based on the Jungian theory of one's self, and since they had released the previous album to that theme using Map of the Soul; Personna, people had assumed the next installment would be called either Shadow, Ego or maybe even Anima. Shadow and Ego were instead used as tracks in the album. The 7 in this case represents two specific things, being the 7 members themselves, but also because the album was released in their 7th year since debuting. It is also the reason why since 2020 if you will find twitter handle names with a small 7 next to them, representing BTS and ARMY.

I just want to let y'all know, you're not gonna get canceled, unless you talk shit about them or you're someone who's supposed to know them (like if you're a journalist who's interviewing them and failed to do research about them and can't even refer to them with their own name). It's perfectly normal to not know them by name, especially since you just started to get to know them, everyone in the fandom went through that phase, so don't say that you're gonna get canceled just for not knowing their name, we understand. And ARMYs aren't gonna do shit to you unless you do and/or say shitty thing about our boy. We won't do anything as long as you're respectful. That's all.

As for Suga not serving in the military, that's not true, all members will serve in the military with no exceptions. Even with Suga's shoulder injury and "recent" surgery, he may not spend the entire period on the front lines, but he will still have to undergo training and will work in the administrative or public sector. But non-fulfillment of military service is impossible. It is noteworthy that they WANTED to serve, it was their decision. The Korean Government was even making arrangements for this period of military service to be reduced for them, or so that they didn't have to serve, but they didn't want to wait any longer, in fact they got tired of letting the government or others decide about their own lives, in the RM's words in Cypher 3, at the Busan concert, which took place the day before the members' army enlistment announcement: "But I don't care You can't control my shit". In fact, Jin said that he wanted to enlist in the military in 2020, it just wasn't because the members insisted that he not go, and soon after they released the singles in English, and played concerts in LA and Las Vegas, Jin wasn't going to be able to participate in all this with the army. On the one hand I wish he had gone to serve in 2020, because he would have been back by now, but on the other hand it would be very sad to imagine the 'Dynamite', 'Buter' and 'Permission to Dance' era without Jin.. .

20:17 😂😂😂 Yes I know its weirdly hilarious but from what I remember “Crow Tit” is the name of a south Korean bird that is a titlike bird known for their curved parrotlike bills but it also means “Baepsae”. The word comes from an elder generation Korean proverb toward us young generations “A crow tit will break its legs trying to walk like a stork” which is basically saying that the generations after them are “try-hards” (hence, trying too hard to be someone that we are not in order to fit in). In that lyric sentence BTS is saying “Hey ~ Try-Hards”! All Hands Up!” staying strong and humble together.

I feel like someone might have mentioned this but just in case. Crow-tits are the short-legged birds. It's commonly used to compare the long-legged birds in old Korean saying that short-legged birds will never catch up with long-legged birds. So that word is just reference to people who were told that they were not going to make it due to their social status. BTS talks a lot about Crow-tits (Baepsae), if you check out that song, you'll understand what they mean. Thank you for your reaction

Hello you three! I’m a 73 year old American woman living in Sweden with my Swedish husband. I discovered BTS in 2017. I have noticed in their earlier videos that the back-up dancers wore masks. I speculate that it was possibly as a protective health measure to protect BTS. They don’t do this anymore. Except for their earliest videos, all of their videos have closed captions in several languages. Just hit the “CC” button at the top of the video. I too request that you raise the volume on the videos!! It’s really fun watching your reactions. Please continue! He'll get a physical that will determine if he can do regular service or if he has to serve in an administrative or office setting. The thing about the crow tit...they make this reference in several songs and it generally is done as a comparison of sorts of the older generation and the younger generation. They reference the older generation as a stork and the younger generation as the crow tit and how the older generation keeps talking about the younger generation like they just need to work harder, do more and catch up. But, the stork will always have the advantage and the crow tit can't catch up no matter how hard they work and how much they do. It is a way of pointing out the social/financial injustice that the younger generation are facing with inflation, housing crisis, only part time jobs available (or working for "passion pay"...ie working for the experience and little to no pay). Yet, they are looked down on when they can't catch up to the lifestyles of the older generation.

I'm 51 from West Virginia. I literally could not be further physically and culturally from South Korea unless I maybe moved to the moon. My daughter is a K-pop fan and ARMY. Honestly, I kinda poo-pooed the whole thing being a blues rock and metal fan. But back in the day, I was a Duran Duran fan and love all kinds of music. So, the pandemic hits, and Dynamite comes out. I'm seeing it everywhere. I watch and hear/see this awesome disco-esque song. Great dancing (which I did some of way back), and I was like...hmm. I fall down a pandemic BTS rabbit hole and have never, ever seen a harder working group of young men. Plus, they make me laugh and smile. I've had 68 operations on my airway, so you can imagine covid was a trying time. I don't think I could have done it without BTS. I can not express my gratitude to them for that. They are amazing and never have I been so happy to be so wrong about something. I'm ARMY now and proud of it. And I love to see people from all places, all ages and walks of life coming together and finding joy in the same thing. These, to paraphrase Namjoon, seven boys from Korea made it happen. As to their military enlistment...I think all musicians in Korea should be given the same opportunity as classical musicians and sports teams, Olympic athletes...BTS have contributed more toward spreading Korean culture to the world than anyone. They have spoken to the UN 3 times, sold millions of albums around the world, sell out major arenas around the globe, have continued their educations. Tens of thousands try Korean foods every day due to BTS, learn Korean, help each other online and in the real world. BTS anonymously donates millions and when they announced they gave Black LIves Matter 1 Million, ARMY matched it in 24 hrs. Hell, they were even invited to the White House and met the President. Pretty good for "just 7 boys from Korea." I believe they could have better served South Korea as diplomats (which they were) and doing what they do....than they do in the military. It is important (my grandad fought in Korea so I am well aware how much) but what BTS does is important for Korean too. Not just for Korea but for all of us because they get us to see we are all special but we are all together too. I purple you guys. Thank you for your service and for giving BTS a try. Good wishes to you all. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

The funny thing is that this isn’t even the song that the article was referring to when talking about the Baepsae. They have a song called “Baepsae” that is awesome as well. The backup dancers are usually professional dancers or KPop trainees trying to earn some money and get experience. They are hooded bc they represent their haters. Most of the songs have full choreo like ON, but you don’t see it all in the MV. The reason you did with ON is that it is a choreography video. There is actually a different official MV for ON that has almost no choreo. It’s cinematically amazing with biblical and movie references galore. And, yes, they are better live. I’ve seen them live 3x and no one can compare. Tickets are reasonably priced btw. They don’t even do that dynamic pricing that a lot of artists do these day. The problem is that they sell out in minutes so you have to buy insanely expensive tickets through a second party. It’s terrible.
