Unknown yardage in ASA is insanely fun. Also, who has time to range a whitetail before you shoot? You’re ranging some trees/landmarks here and there when you get setup so that you can better estimate yardage when you have a shot. It’s an entirely different game, and it’s growing a lot more than people realize. And yes, there is more money to be won in unknown. Mathews especially. $5k difference from Open Pro in ASA to Known Pro

guys yall need to play the ASA game alittle. with 1.25" 12 rings there is more strategy in the miss than the hit for most people. i play the known game now. but am working towards unknown bc of the challenge. it all takes work and whos cares how you want to shoot it as long as you are shooting and supporting your local club/range that lets us shoot!!

Another great podcast fellas! Talking about the lift which mine is the 29.5. I literally had to shim one cam all the way to the right and one all the way to the left for it to shoot through paper and the tear in the paper at first was like I’ve never seen it before.

What people want is something that is as fast and easy as an EZ Fletch where you can fletch all the vanes at once... but with the flexibility of a Bitz (e.g. 3 or 4 fletch, 1 to 5 degree helical). If someone comes out with a product like this, I think every single person would buy it because it's a no brainer.
@Orr_s
@Orr_s 4 ай бұрын
Ive been trying to have them review the Bohning Cauldron jig kit. Look into it, im waiting to see if its worth buying or just keep my Bitz and do it that way like i have been
@jons7e
@jons7e 4 ай бұрын
@@Orr_s it’s a decent option, but it’s 3 vane only and limited to 3 degree right or left helical (straight and 1 degree won’t be used).
@Orr_s
@Orr_s 4 ай бұрын
@@jons7e truee…is the ez fletch max like 5 degree helical? I just think the tolerances of the EZ fletch arent that great and was hoping the Cauldron allowed for more precision some but maybe that only comes with something like the Bitz. Im going more towards a 3 fletch again after coming from 4. Can get the same if not even less weight off the back if right vane is selected. But yeah idk all i know is i used Tac Vanes on my bitz with no wrap, Bob smith glue, and AAE nock reciever and it was a literal nightmare. And ive built lots of arrows to this point not my first rodeo so anything to make those simpler i was willing to try. Might jus go super saber vanes but they are heavier and way more money
@longshotdiedtired1582
@longshotdiedtired1582 3 ай бұрын
@@Orr_sbro tac literally tells you to only use there glue and primer so you can’t blame the vains , I’ve done the same thing and it pissed me off so I totally feel your pain , to me the AAE glue is the best so I just use it on everything along with bohning flechtite to tip them
@Orr_s
@Orr_s 3 ай бұрын
@@longshotdiedtired1582 i did use the primer pen and the Bob smith glue is the same exact ingredients in Tacs super glue. Bob Smith industries glue is the best glue ive found never had any issues ever fletching arrows until i tried TAC Vanes and i love the vanes. I wanna try super sabres or mini sabres too but theyre insane money for like a regular 40 or 36 pack. Ive had multiple people say theyve fletched well with TAC and bob smith industries glue as well. Idk maybe it was the 4mm shafts with no wrap and using a Bitz. They did finally adhere but it was a nightmare and wasted 3 vanes. Not as clean a job as usual. Prepped the same super OCD like, made sure to cut the clamp and grind down high spots, have the AEE receiver too. Jus wondering if theres a better jig out than the Mini Max and easier than the Bitz but still as precise

I went to the first local shoot out by my house in saltsburg PA and it was so foggy that for the first 24 targets the rangefinder didn't work but one time and I think I had the most fun shooting that one. Just guessing them all. I only missed two times and the one was on a 97-yard caribou where I could barely see what it was and i was just guessing. I thought it was about 85 and here it was more like 97. Josh that's an awesome way to do judge it. I usually did something like what you were saying but not three times, I would count it twice kinda like there's 20 yards and That's probably another 15 or so on, thanks for your advice buddy

Most 3D targets are placed between 30 to 50 yards and outdoor target archery is 50 meters ( 54 yards ). Outdoor target archery is always shot in wide open venues where bucking the wind to catch scoring lines is most important. 3D typically is shot in wooded areas with less wind, so larger shaft becomes more important to help you catch your scoring lines.

Had a real world situation where I was hunting in fog and my rangefinder wouldn't work and I misjudged and shot under. Has made me practice a ton while I hike where I guess yardage on something then range it to see how close I am. I will always have a rangefinder but now for closer shots if needed I can judge pretty good.

It’s so funny because your 8k set up you mentions is me to a T instead of iron wills I use micro hades, x10 parallel pros, with easton titanium half outs, AAE max hunter vanes, halo lighted micro nocks, Mathew’s lift 29.5, 12 inch front bridge lock bar, v bar bracket, 8 inch back bar bridge lock bar, low bro two piece quiver, uv slider, qad rest, upgraded to green gas strings, green dampeners, Hamskee peep comes in at 8.6k 😂🎉 I mean it’s becoming way more common but buy once cry once in Mathew’s it’s a bow for life if you so choose they warranty it would take a serious change for me to replace this set up. And we haven’t factored in range finders, hip quivers, bino harness, Binos I mean we are way over 10k for top of the line set ups. But shout out tim and Josh I love you guys man! I’ve learned so much from you guys I’ve recently purchased a DIY set up for my home pro shop motivated by you guys teaching the average knuckle dragger like me want to be better and understand my set up and take pride in everything I do!! Thanks for all you guys do!!

Over here in Europe we have no “known distance” everything is unknown. The guessing is part of the game. 3h here is no hunting practice because in most if the countries bowhunting is forbidden. So here we shoot World Archery 3D or IFAA Bowhunter class. All unknown. Thats why we need a fckn fast arrow. So we can miss judge some meters and still hit the kill zone.

I agree 100% unknown is not the deal. It’s not how someone would hunt it’s a product of the past. They need to just pull max range out to like 70 and make it all known. Just watching unknown is hard to do a whole bunch of staring and walking around. Im definitely not discounting the skill because that is the dark arts
