the best thing in 3d coat is voxel mode, but people try to model in the same pipeline as in zbrsh, but for 3d coat you need to use a different pipeline. it is a conceptually different tool.

Short and sweet, thanks for the recommendation! I've been meaning to try 3dCoat for a while specifically for hand painting textures, with Blender (no addons) being a bit too basic for it and Substance Painter looking like an overkill.

I actually like 3D Coat enough to make it my main software and instead use Blender as a complementary one do you really think it would be a mistake ? Sculpting, Retopo, UV Mapping and Texture painting just seem better in 3D coat to me (ill still use Blender for animation and render and substance painter for textures, but i still prefer 3D coat for hand painting) I think the biggest reason 3D coat isn't getting as much attention is the lack of learning content (and some smaller instability issues) if there would be more high quality tutorials it would be used a lot more i bet. Once i get a better grasp at the software maybe ill take a shot at making some guides but for now ill just learn and get better.

I find 3D Coat to be actually better at painting textures than Painter, I completely ditched Painter for 3D Coat!

on my machine 3dcoat can handle 50m+ voxels , blender in other hands can barely handle 10mil with alot of freezing

May i know what is the specs of your machine? Does it rely heavily on graphic card?

Actually I can't move fluently between 3d Coat and other 3d softwares including ZBrush, because 3dCoat doesn't import models with correct sizes. If I import an object from ZBrush and use it with the initial size, it is way too small to work with in 3dCoat and I couldn't find a solution.

Well, that will,mostly depend on what you do mostly. Most people texturing aside modeling and scultping tend to use 3d coat more since its much cheaper than substance painter. 3d coat isnt on the same level as substance painter when it comes to texturing but I would say it close. Not far from susbtance

I bought 3dcoat half a year ago and am still struggling to get into it. The nerdy user interface is sometimes really hard to read. I am yet to discover a good tutorial series, something like from Creative Shrimp, Andrew Price, or CG Boost for Blender. I bought some Udemy courses, but I cannot stand listening to the tutors bad pronunciation. Also, while sculpting runs smooth on my PC with an 11-year old CPU, I get a 100% CPU load on my dual XEON work computer and voxel sculpting is very laggy.

Maxon killed Zbrush. All new options are for subscribers only. I hope 3d Coat won't sellout themselves and keep supporting users. Right now they have to carry almost all the weight of 3d sculpting branch.

@@smaplessmap5355 I beg your pardon, my previous commentary looks rude. The current price for individuals is 439 Euro, earlier it was 379 Euros. What do you think - was the previous price ok or it was overestimated as well?

@@stanislavchernyshuk6559 np 😀. For me as a hobbyist some jobs, yes also the price tag before was to high. I mean i can do quite everything in blender plus some addons less or more like in 3dcoat. Blender got so strong now that it's hard to justify the price for another app. And i belive into the open source philosiphy. As 3dcoat started there was a steam version for about 150 euros if im right! That felt fair. And i dont like these licensing models now for updates and renting.

I think you would be very surprised to find out just how close 3DCoat's sculpting tools compare to ZBrush's. Yes, ZB is the standard, but an objective comparison, where you take the same exact model and use similar brushes (that you normally would use...such as clay and clay buildup or Dam Standard vs Draw or Pinch brush in 3DCoat), would change your mind, considerably. Too many people make false and blind assumptions without any real experience in both applications. The truth of the matter is that 3DCoat is VERY capable of delivering production level sculpting and has more ways to texture a model (low poly UV mapped or uber dense high poly sculpts, and Voxel paint) than any other application.
