Way nicer than my attempts way back. The supports I used when trying those was just a solid cylinder 'wall' to hold the tyre up and that way I could slice it off at an angle to kind of match the sidewall profile

Note about the statement about "Removing the support on ABS like Resin before curing": Wenn pulling your support off of uncured resin, there is a high chance of breaking a good portion out of the surface of your model, resulting in litte round holes or worse. The safe way is to cure your model with the support still attaached and than use a small pliar or similar to remove the support before sanding.

When I normally trim my uncured (hard) resin prints, I do so with a straight-edge razor blade under my stereo zoom scope to “saw” at the support as flush as possible to the surface. In the uncured state, the resin is still soft enough to cut through leaving a reasonably clean mark. Other times I might partially cut from different sides so that at least, if I break off the support, it “guides” the break to avoid a goosebump or divot mark. Given the crazy amount of micro-supports you added to the flex resin my method would take a while. If your support tear-surfaces are more divot-like, maybe experiment with “painting” raw flex resin into those spots and hitting it with UV light.

I print my tires flat on the plate, with no supports whatsoever. That is without a platform support as well. They turn out fine and no need for post finishing. In the scale I am printing, 1:43 and 1:64, you cannot see where the tire sidewall had contact with the plate.
@jlr3636

Instead of individual supports could you just print a thin solid ring and cut it off with a razor knife? Or design the support with a thicker base and vertical section and taper down where it meets the sidewall

With regards to those supports, if you would freeze the tires so they are (temporarily) hard, can you then sand the supports? Or alternatively create a ring similar to the rim for the tire and have it stick out just enough to clear the tire. Then put the supports on that ring. After printing, just cut away that ring including the supports. Would that work? Curious to your opinion.
@TheScalemodelingChannel
@TheScalemodelingChannel Жыл бұрын
I have done another video with this type of resin, using the ring support: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gbuehqeL18-cdIU.html The resin can be sanded, easiest to do it with is one of those rotory tools. by hand it takes ages. It is rigid enough to not bend super flimsy, its not like the actual rubber tyres in most kits.

Or glue them together. I have done that with TPU-95A, glued the two parts together. Looks great and doesn't affect the flexibility of the tire. Although, not every tire design allows it to be printed in two halfs (imagine racing slicks).

would increasing the length of the supports get rid of the leftovers on the tire? what about using very careful blade work? is this resin reusable? i'm getting back into modeling soon and have never 3D printed before and i have a lot of questions.thanks for any help you can offer.👍

Test your printer overhang. You can likely just print the tire right on the plate with no support, as long as you set the angles so they overlap the resin will cure properly. I am able to print up to about a 50 degree angle on mine with no supports but each printer is different, so you need to get a test model to find out how far you can print overhangs without support to know for sure.
