I can only think of two examples, Rush and Genesis. I fell in love with progressive rock when I was 13 and my uncle gifted me In the court of the crimson king. Began collecting KC stuff and two months later deep dived into Pink Floyd and then again a couple months later I purchased half of the Yes catalogue. But both Rush and Genesis took me at least 6 years until it really clicked. For Genesis strangely enough I liked Phil Collins solo work first and it took me at least 4-5 years to fully appreciate Peter Gabriel, and even then the classic Genesis era did not click with me until a couple years later.

Dont sleep on the modern Todd Lattore era Queensryche material. Awesome albums and they kill live

I’m roughly your age and felt the same way about Alice. Now I consider the 70s band peak hard rock of that era. I never appreciated Cheap Trick until I got older as well. All I ever heard were The Flame on MTV and the classic rock radio staple “I Want You To Want Me.”

I liked BOC early on, but didn't dig deep at first. In the last few years I really started to discover their deep catalog and love all eras. I had a similar relationship with Saxon. I had Power & The Glory and Denim & Leather, but lost track of them until 2007. Then I heard The Inner Sanctum and went back and bought everything they did before and since.

I'm friends with Carlos Alomar. He's played guitar on David Bowie albums like Station To Station and he plays guitar on the song Fame from David Bowie. Carlos even plays guitar on many Iggy Pop songs like The Passenger which is an Iggy classic.. )^_-)/

Same here with Queensrÿche for me. I thought they were more of a Motley Crue type of band so I didn't expect them to be that great.

Similar experience with artists having hits during the singles period of my early teen years - Bowie, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, etc. By the time I'd moved on to album bands I was a total prog-head and only came back to the albums of these artists in later years.

YES MATE, SOMETHING IS CHANGING IN OUR BRAIN AS WE GET OLDER. SAME WITH ME, I DIDN'T CARE MUCH ABOUT CERTAIN BANDS SUCH AS BOC EARLY ON WHEN I WAS YOUNGER AND SUDDENLY IN THE LAST DACADE OR SO I LIKE THEM MORE AND MORE, IT AKSO HAPPENED TO ME WITH PROG BANDS SUCH AS YES, ELP, GENESIS, AND NOW WITH GENTLE GIANT AND RENEISSANCE.

Opeth yes wasn't a fan of growls and harsh vocals then something clicked now in a world of wimpy sound alike 80s reliving glammy stuff i explored black metal especially atmospheric black metal one man projects etc huge fan of genre 💯💯🤘🤘🤘

Hey John. Well Alice Cooper for me got into early with Love it To Death album and the song 18 that a staple to anyone growing up as I was as a teenager. And getting into the 70s Alice . Seeing him twice , First the one time in 78 then in 80 with Billy Squire opening. Jay Ferguson in 78 opening saw at another time and not this time. BOC got into with Secret Treaties and the debut and On Your Feet and On Your Knees live and others picked up along the way. Saw in 76 headline with Styx and Rush opening. David Bowie got into some. have some earlier stuff om vinyl/ Queen the first album and then somewhat into after albums and saw them in 77 and really to fall into place with what they would put out. This boomer who got into along these artists right along when they came out pretty much, TC

Always liked early Queensryche, Mind Crime and then backward. Empire had some good songs but that's where they started losing me.
