Ryu is the main protagonist and poster-boy of the Street Fighter series.
As such, there is a certain expectation placed upon the character to be amongst the strongest, if not claiming that role for himself.
Contrary to that, Ryu has faced oppositions in the past. Some hurdles were just too difficult to jump over. One thus example was Sagat, leading Ryu to submit to the demonic power lying dormant within him: The Satsui No Hado.
At this point, there are well over 50 characters in the Street Fighter series. With so many characters, it raises the question of who amongst that crowd could realistically defeat Ryu?

@@BlazerK1914 Ryu defeated base Bison in SF2. Chun-Li, Cammy and Guile have never been that strong, they struggle with Vega who is #3 in Shadaloo. Ryu easily rivaled Sagat who was #2.

I'm actually disappointed Ken didn't make it on this list...Ken is and always will be criminally underestimated in terms of power. Ken defeated Ryu in SFA2 and gave him his iconic headband. People will always say Ryu wasn't focused during the time...whatever! During the events of SFII, Ken wasn't impressed with the competition that was happening in the world warrior tournament and started slacking off until Ryu called him out personally. Ken states that he'd only marry Eliza if he won the tournament. He's not only accomplished that, but has a son as well. In the SFIV intro, you can see Ryu and Ken battling and are pretty much even. This is the event that Ken was mentioning to his wife stating that they couldn't give it their all at the time meaning it was a draw. And finally, Ken defeats Ryu in the beginning of the cinematic story of Street Fighter V, which sums up to a record of 3 wins 2 losses fighting Ryu.

Indeed,Ken is very underrated,especially considering the fact that Ken has his own business,family and all that unlike Ryu,who spends all his time training and fighting,yet Ken is still able to keep up with him

SF lore is a lot bigger than you think. What you see in the games is a small fraction of it. Ryu even says in 3S that he has got a better win record than Ken, meaning there are at least 3 matches between them that happened outside of the games. Ryu and Ken were equals in SF1 and Alpha. In SF2 Ryu was the winner of that tournament, so he was slightly superior to Ken already. In SF4 Ryu sparred with Ken and Sagat, but it's unlikely he gave it his all. In SFV he wasn't focused due to the fact he was doing his special training, and in the rematch Ryu completely owned him.

The 4 are: Gouken his master, Ken his training partner, Akuma by tapping into Satsui no hado, and Oro who thinks he is worthy of being trained.

If Sakura trains herself throughout the years, and if she goes to a lot of fights like Ryu does, she could surpass her idol. It’s my theory.

Well, Ryu wouldn't remain on the same level either. He'll be trained by Oro Post-SFIII.

One thing is certain,she has A LOT of potential,she learned Ryu's Hadouken just by watching it,and she proved to be really strong without any REAL training.

Other fighting games characters to whom Ryu'd be a worthy opponent and maybe lose to: Jinnpachi (Tekken) Rugal Bernstein (KOF) Geese Howard (Fatal Fury) maybe Master Hwuang (Martial Masters) Scorpion (I tried to not be so obvious but whatever) so on... Great video, man! Nice list, you've got my like. Keep it up the good work!

Geese is unlikely. Rugal is superior to Alpha-era Ryu but he's gotten a lot stronger since then. Scorpion is immortal but in the hand-to-hand combat Ryu is def stronger (that Death Battle didn't take many of SF feats into account). And Martial Masters are... martial masters.

Akuma, gen, oro & gouken. Sagats a 50/50. Pound for pound, ryu edges out everyone else in the sf universe. Some of these comments are def hilarious tho...

Oro, Gouken, Gen and Akuma can beat Ryu you also have to put Kage as well he's the manifestation of the Satsui No Hadou itself and his story he defeats Ryu in battle before Ryu cast him away for good or for now and Kage is stronger than Gen, Oro and Gouken and possibly stronger than Akuma himself.

Story wise Not sure if you read masahiko's manga who I believe is the co-creator of Karin, it is implied that Guy from final fight can beat Ryu. He has the Bushin Musou Renge which is the counter of Shun Goku Satsu. In the manga Guy even stops Ryu's Shun Goku Satsu while Ryu was in evil Ryu state, with one hand. Plus gameplay wise most of his moves are suppose to be counters to shoto moves his elbow drop was suppose to be a counter to the shoryuken but was not implemented well as it goes down while the shoryuken goes up, he's got the sweep move when he shoulder checks you which goes through hadoukens as well. Another character although in the udon comics and I don't think it was cannon, but Cody could beat Ryu when he is not in his evil state. And Cody can be seen in promotional art of alpha 3 as the main character the same game where they brought in Karin and R. Mika

I didn't know about the Guy fact, but I knew about the Cody one. It's an interesting concept that I wouldn't mind being canon. It would be the best show of respect for a once main character of a Capcom series. I doubt that he trains as often as Ryu does (especially if you consider his occupation), so Ryu would surpass him eventually if the scenario was canon.

@@roscodantethefightinggamen7939 good points, although in the same manga Guy seems to be older and more experienced than Ryu because his occupation is vigilante, and has a mission to destroy anything that is evil, as that is the Bushin way. In one scene from the manga, news reporters are trying to record Guy single handedly take down one of shadaloo's hideouts. It is also unknown if Guy can take care of Bison on his own. If you play sf4, and alpha series he is always shown saving Rose from Bison some how, again that was a storyline taken from the manga before being canon in alpha and sf4. I use to be known in the Capcom Unity Community as Final_Fight_Guy, and knew almost every trivia on Final Fight characters, altho most of my info are now kind of dated

Capcom did take some ideas from the manga but we don't know if Guy is that strong canonically. Bison did take him seriously, and Cody is Guy's rival, that's all we know.

Ryu is high tier but mid high tier Akuma, Kage, Oro, Gen, Goutetsu and Gouken can beat Ryu other high tier characters like Bison, Gill, Urien etc can't beat him and it's more likely Bison would have beat Ryu if it Ryu didn't have the Power Of Nothingness.

@@mr.checkyourself4672 As of SFV Ryu has yet to surpass Black Moons Bison, and Gill is in a different league. Now you can argue Ryu surpassed BM Bison in SFIII, but we don't know enough about Gill's limits atm.

@@NinjaWorldWarrior16 Ryu already surpass Black Moon Bison which Bison was at his strongest in V you already know that and Bison dead during Street Fighter III Ryu above Gill he will beat Gill in Street Fighter VI or VII we don't know what exactly happened after 3rd Strike since Capcom never bothered continuing the story Ryu the Superman of Street Fighter so he got that in the bag.

Street Fighter characters who can beat Ryu easy Akuma, Oro, Gouken, Gen and Kage all 5 would stomp Ryu eventually Ryu will surpass them and be the strongest in lore but for now he is not.

Kage is a shadow, i don't know why you listed something that doesn't exist in the living realm of SF.

@@blackout1524 Kage's Story costume hasn't been used tho, it implies that he's found a vessel. We might see it in a new cinematic story. I assume that Neo Shadaloo will capture an exhausted Ryu (likely after his battle with Sagat) and then create a Ryu clone body that Phantom Bison and Kage will be fighting for, with Kage coming out on top. Kage/Oni is the Satsui no Hado itself so he'd be the most powerful character.

@@NinjaWorldWarrior16 Nice headcanon along with not knowing what Neo Shadoloo is all about along with assuming we'll get a new story mode. Kage isn't on anyone's level, it's a shadow that doesn't exist. idk why they didn't put in Evil Ryu instead of Evil Shadow Dan.

@@blackout1524 In the spiritual realm Kage does exist, it's just that Ryu, Sagat and Akuma all rejected him. Look I know the SF lore like the back of my hand. Neo Shadaloo is a group of people that aim to save those who suffered at the hands of Shadaloo. Ed and Falke know that Bison will try to possess their bodies since they have the Psycho Power, so who knows, maybe they'll be willing to do anything to save themselves. They could be aware of the fact that Bison was once interested in Ryu's body but then Ryu tapped into the Mu no Ken and became inappropriate, so they'll create a Ryu clone that won't have the Mu obviously. The Arcade Edition cinematic opening kinda implies it. Sadly the story 2 is likely cancelled.

@@blackout1524 What are you talking about Kage is canon he's the satsui no hadou Ryu vanquish yeah he's basically Evil Ryu but canon Kage is it own character and probably the most strongest in lore.
