Wish they would have had at least 2 bolts that just held the tank without the plate, would make the whole thing a lot easier

Thank you for watching our auto repair video that shows you how to replace the gas tank skid plate on a Jeep Wrangler JK. If you perform this repair on the ground you can probably loosen the gas tank skid plate a little and snake the ratchet straps under the gas tank to help support it while you are replacing the skid plate. You are going to want to do this when the gas tank is pretty much empty. Hope this helps you out.

Yes !! You CAN do it.... with 3 friends, a lift and a ratchet atrap....

Not the easiest auto repair to do in your driveway but it can be done. Just make sure that the gas tank is pretty much empty and you will have an easier time. Hope the video helps you out.

Check to see if there are straps holding it in place. I would have to see it, forget if the skid plate also supports the gas tank on that Jeep.

I recently got a MVI in Canada done and is passed inspection, but I also recently filled my 2013 Wrangler and BOY does it WREAK of Gas inside the cab. There is no smell under the hood, or the gas cap, just inside the cab. I don't know much about vehicles, but I crawled underneath and it looks like there is some wet residue of either gas or oil along the holes, as seen in 2:54 of your video and there is a small area of grass where my jeep was sitting that is dark like molasses. Not a lot, but enough I noticed. I'm really worried as I just got the Jeep inspected and it passed.

You may want to have the garage take a look at it to see if there is a leak in the filer neck or the gas tank. The tank is plastic though so that shouldn't be leaking.

was there an area to use band straps to make a fuel tank hanger , so fuel tank has its own hanger.

This skid plate holds the gas tank in place.

I purchased my Jeep wrangler gas tank skid plate from the dealer. It wasn't cheap, at the time of this video they were hard to get. They might be a little easier to get now. Here is one I found on Amazon hope this helps you out: amzn.to/3QS8kS0

It’s a pain that the gas tank is held in place by the skid plate, should be banded to the frame.

Yeah, if I had a lift I can do much much more, lying on your back on a your driveway presents a little more challenge.

Yes, we worked that way for years believe me..lol It can be done in the driveway with he jeep supported on jackstands.
