In this video, we’re going to talk about vitamin C, and something called a subclinical vitamin C deficiency.
You may have heard of scurvy, which is a severe vitamin C deficiency. This is also called a classical vitamin C deficiency. A subclinical vitamin C deficiency means you have some vitamin C, but you don’t have the full amount.
What does vitamin C do?
• It works as an antioxidant
• It’s involved in collagen growth and repair
• It helps make noradrenaline
• It’s necessary in the function of carnitine
• Your white blood cells are saturated with vitamin C
Scurvy symptoms:
• Wounds that can’t heal
• Gingivitis
• Perifollicular hemorrhage
• Fatigue
• Red/purple blotches
Foods that are rich in vitamin C:
• Papaya (I don’t recommend)
• Kiwi (I don’t recommend)
• Bell peppers
• Greens
• Berries
• Cruciferous vegetables
Many people also take vitamin C supplements. Just be sure your supplement is not synthetic. Make sure it’s food-based. Acerola cherry is also a great source of vitamin C.
Things that can inhibit vitamin C absorption and potentially cause vitamin C deficiency signs:
• Smoking
• Pregnancy
• Age
• Overtraining
• Sugar

Really appreciate your entire channel and your effort to help. Please make a video on how to restore lost Kidney function, if one kidney is already super small due to medical malpractice (size of a kidney bean) and the other is performing poorly. This person is going through dialysis few times per week. I believe fasting and Keto could help. Just need better advice from you. Would greatly Appreciate it.

I bet birth control depletes vitamin C? When I was a teenager on BC, I had an episode where my gums started bleeding randomly and I mean they were BLEEDING so much for hours! I lost a lot of blood. It was so scary for me that I quit birth control right then and there and never went back. I also had the red dots on my skin back then.

Dr. Berg, I’d like to bring to your attention this study I found. It was published by the Turkish journal of medical sciences in 2016. This is the title: “Glycemic index values of monofloral Turkish honeys and the effect of their consumption on glucose metabolism”. I know, no honey on keto. But it’s got some really interesting data on it, regarding insulin as well. Please do check it out when you get a chance.

Mir Ahsan Habib I agree black seed oil is a powerful supplement, and I like to combine it with cod liver oil to balance the omega 3 ratio and get natural vitamin D. I take 1.5 tsp of each oil in a shot glass with apple cider vinegar and aloe Vera juice for digestion. You can add that raw honey for taste and immunity on top 👍

When she was pregnant with me my mom CRAVED vitamin C (oranges.) With my son I craved vitamin C, too, (tomatoes.) I keep cherry acerola in the house but I realize now I'm not taking it enough. I had bleeding gum and fatigue. Soon as I ate probiotic yogurt, the blood went away. And I started bk eating bell pprs and apple as a smoothie to help strengthen me again.

To reiterate......it seems that those on a proper Keto diet have less need for vitamin C than those on a not so healthy diet. Also for those who are Carnivore type eaters organ meat is high in Vitamin C. I would be curious to see how Vit C levels and/or requirements are for those who are strict Keto and/or Carnivore.

Animal Mother yes. I consumed pasteurized most of my life up until about 5 years ago then started transitioning to non-homogenized then to raw. There’s a dairy farm just down the road so the raw is plenty available. I just wanted to see what would happen if I cut out dairy and in a few weeks I had lost 10 lbs. I wasn’t bloated anymore and acne on my face cleared up. That was almost 3 years ago. I have tried grass fed and goats milk. Don’t like the taste. But I do consume Grass fed butter from time to time. And I will cheat with some cheese also. And when I do all the problems come back.

Probably because they are high in fructose. But if you don't eat other refined sugars it should be fine.

I had worse perifollicular haemorrhaging since Keto. I don’t understand. I thought it was because I stopped eating berries/kiwis... but I eat bell Peppers every day and huge salads. Never smoked don’t eat sugar just getting older. taking lots of Acerola Cherry now tonsee if it helps. Thank you 🙏

I do IF and healthy Keto. The first thing I eat is one full pepper, it has a lot of vitamin C, and more than you need for your daily vitamin C. Dr, can you please make a video about dates? Is good, bad? Dose it effect our insulin. Thank you so much

As good as dates are, as they are loaded with vitamins and minerals, it is better to stay clear as they are of high glycemic index, easily spike insulin especially for those that are genetically predisposed. Also, one can easily get addicted, overreacting. Not worth it as there are other fruits that one can source nutrients from that are healthier.

@@elizabethtimothy4776 dates are one of few high sugar foods that I can tolerate most likely due to the high nutrient content so I think sometimes Keto folks who try to avoid fruits because of the sugar content may be missing the mark. Oddly unlike cookies or ice cream, I can eat one date and stop.

I just ate a whole red bell pepper this evening. The only vegetable I really like, probably because it's a little sweet 😊

I make kimchi with black pepper and turmeric. For me it tastes better than sauerkraut

My big right toenail has clear liquid between the nail and cuticle and now I see a little bit if blood only when pressing with tissue. There’s a little small spot under the nail near the cuticle what looks discolored. I’m getting worried. There’s no pain and no swelling. Is it vitamin C deficiency and too much sugar, hardly any red meat and lots of grains? Anyone who has ever experienced this please any comfort would help. My mind is racing to toenail cancer. Please anyone

When You cook the sauerkraut do you loose most of the vitamin C? When you steam fresh vegetables from the garden does the Vitamin C leave the vegetables?
