I had a dear friend that was in one of the deadliest battles of the Vietnam War with 101 st airborne. He always said your feet are the most important thing to protect. Wear a thin pair of socks under your socks so the outer sock rubs against it instead of your skin… he had 3 bronze stars and a Purple Heart.

I'm not sure if it still applies today, but when my husband was in the (British) Army, it was a chargeable offence for a soldier to allow his feet to get into bad condition. They still used to have foot inspections back then, and anyone who allowed their feet to become unhealthy was rewarded with 14 days straight days of guard duty for the most unpopular shift.....evenings!

@@susans9491 I don't know if they still do it today.....I must ask my nephew who is currently serving! I also remember my husband using rubbing alcohol to toughen up his little toes (his particular area prone to rubbing). Rubbing alcohol also helps with stopping any fungal problems from wearing boots for days at a time. I'm sure they must have more modern solutions now, but back then we always had a large bottle of rubbing alcohol tucked away.

Great haul video Jinne! I hauled at WM yesterday and DT today. But yesterday a friend and I went to a thrift store and I found a new in the box fire pit! A beautiful fire pit. I really needed one. Jenni I want to thank you for your recommendation for the vigo rices . I went to my Dollar general and picked up the lime cilantro it's only 6 oz but perfect size for fish tacos, the Spanish rice 9 ozs great for tacos with refried beans and the roasted chicken rice 9 oz, all in all 24 pks. They were$1 each and I did the math and figured I'd saved $24 over what Amazon and or Walmart would have charged me! Amazing 😍 Love your content ❣️ thankful we have someone else who is savvy and frugal to share tips with us and help us not feel like we're crazy 🤣

Hello from stormy Kansas! I swung through our closest Dollar Tree just yesterday! They finally had the three compartment with the qtips and cotton balls! But now I can't remember what you put in them! I think it was baby Bics and matches, but for the life of me I can't remember the third thing! My best purchase was freeze-dried pineapple. I bought a few because I knew I would like them, and opened one when I got into the truck because I was excited. Wouldn't you know it... they were DELICIOUS. So I went back and bought all but two of the ones they had out! Hopefully, they will keep them in stock!

The health & beauty ais!e was stocked too. Grabbed toothbrushes, dental flossers, Ace bandage wrap, shampoo/body wash and bars of shampoo/conditioner. The food section provided white rice, beef & chicken broth, shelf stable milk & slices, just to name a few things. Of course I grabbed another box of matches too! Prepare as if there will be no money, one health crisis can wipe out one's finances. Most hospitals in our area of the deep south now require 10 percent upfront for services, other than the ED. I, in relatively good health, was working in the garden when I had a sharp pain in my head causing me to fall and break a rib. Long story short, the broken rib actually saved my life because I had an aneurysm ready to blow. Financially, we are almost wiped out. Thanking God for my life and for putting it on my heart to prep and put up food years ago. We have solar and propane to aid with utilities too. Every moment is a risk or a blessing; make the most of them.

As for the ant trap, dont forget the fly strips. They really come in handy too. They also catch mosquitos along with flies and nats. I get lots of them at the DT. I have yet to be able to find hand warmers. Maybe because its now spring/summer, not sure. But been looking for months at 3 different stores. I still need to do my DT haul this week. Love the DT. BTW,our DT’s have not gotten their seed packets in yet either. Not sure why. They only have a small selection of gardening stuff out now. Hopefully they get more in. I have to camouflage the vienna sausages in bbq sauce or baked beans. No one in our house likes them plain.

Firestarter Grab a bag of cotton balls and petroleum jelly. Roll the cotton balls in the jelly. Seal in a zip lock baggie. Plus the jelly and cotton balls can be used for other things as well including first aid. Zip-loc baggies I mark each baggie with a Sharpie. Digital camera, HP laptop, Chromenote book, etc. So when I'm going on a road trip or camping, it's easy to grab what you need in a hurry to pack and go. I also do this each time I buy something new-vacuum, microwave, laptop, portable heater, etc. Place the receipt and warranty and any extra parts in a baggie, mark it, and store it away. That way if you need to return it everything is already together.

Those look like some good things to get. We were without running water for 3 days due to lightning striking close by. It damaged our well pump, in the wee hours of a Saturday morning of course, along with ruining a few household electronics like our internet router. Anyway, it was a very good lesson for us. We flushed the toilets with old pool water, used disposables for eating on, ate leftovers and sandwiches etc. to cut out cooking. I can see how sanitation will be a big issue for longer term events. I even began getting an infection beside one of my fingernails from a hangnail of all things. I treated it with multiple topical treatments but it still developed a red streak down toward my knuckle and was painful. What we learned is that for us we need more intermediate solutions. We can disassemble our well and have something to drop in there to manually collect. But we don't want to do all of that for only a couple of days outage. We have plans to build an outhouse, but again, not for a couple of days need. I recommend for people to have both short term and long term plans and please be sure to stock for sanitation, like to the point of almost being obsessive about it. My hands didn't get dirty cleaning poo buckets but I wasn't washing them regularly and I developed an infection. Imagine how easy it is for a hangnail or ingrown toenail, a scratch or anything minor to quickly escalate into a serious condition all because of even slightly inadequate sanitation. Something like that would be extremely dangerous for a diabetic. We got everything repaired or replaced and are back to "normal" again, but definitely much wiser. This actually helped to finally get my spouse off the couch about some things too.

I scratched the back of my leg on a fence post out in our pasture fixing horse fences a few years and developed MRSA. I had to have emergency surgery, was close to toxic shock still being stubborn and thinking I was golden because I had peroxide and neosporin. Infection is no joke! Glad you’re okay, and that your spouse is seeing what you’ve been seeing. My hubby still thinks I’m nuts, but at least has stopped telling me so.

Thanks Jinnie. We're finding the Dollar Tree stores can vary a lot, even stores that are just a few miles apart. We have one close to us which is a bit smaller and they have had issues with stocking a lot of the grocery items, but seem to have a lot of craft items in stock. In fact they are using non food items like craft supplies, storage containers and other things to fill in blank spaces in the grocery department. On the little work light, we just got a mail order catalog and it showed the very same light but for $15!! Our DT stores have had the lights and lanterns out of stock for a while but we do keep extras of these on hand. Last year I bought one of the under the bed organizer and as soon as I unzipped it, the plastic shredded. Could have been that the materials available at that time may have been more flimsy. One thing our DT had recently was a lot of socks, from baby sizes through adults, but they didn't have shoe laces. So it can be hit and miss so the lesson is if you see it and need it, then you should consider getting it, because it may be gone in a week.

I have some of those little lights/flashlights too! I love em. I also love the long skinny ones with the magnets on the back, we put them everywhere around the house. We have also gotten several of the lightswitch looking ones and have put them right by the switches for several rooms in the house. We call those nights FFY Fend For Yourself nights to! Some days when there are extra yard or garden chores I just can't even look at the kitchen and deal with that! lol

Good Thursday morning Jinnie. I'm glad to see you're doing well. What a haul,. Thanks for sharing your recommendations on what to stock up in our pantries during these harsh economic times. I do believe my favorite items are those Armor canned meats - and of course that Panko breading - just what's need for fixing the fried chicken. It's incredible what $40 will buy at Dollar Tree these days. 👍👍😊😊

We love the chicken tamales and that brand of cornbread mix isn't half bad especially for casseroles. You can really dress up those canned tamales and make them stretch. I can't resist your DT haul videos. Always such great ideas. I blew my DT budget this week on stackable planters. Finally found them in stock and hope they work. When the boys were still home, we did FFY nights too and they loved it. Mama needs a break from the kitchen now and then.

Great haul, Jinne! I hate to see all of the 'shrinkflation" that is going on but that is the way everything is going. Getting less and less for your money. But it does keep things more affordable, I guess. You gave me some ideas of things to look for. Thanks for sharing!

We found the absolute best mouse traps. It’s a plastic snap trap that you squeeze like a clothespin to release the body and reset the trap. I’m catching mice everyday, dumping them and resetting the trap in less than a minute

Ants homemade remedy - equal parts confectionery sugar and baking soda. Lay out of can lids or put on corners of cabinets, it works well.
