Very helpful and informative vid! I love that you split them into different categories like that and specified the number to get I actually plan on setting up my old 40 breeder when I have the space for it, and stocking with my three favorite fish: some platies, a bristlenose, and if there's room, a nice school of black skirts What I really like about that idea is that the platies will provide lots of bright warm colors while their tankmates offer a nice contrast with their darker, more neutral coloration, just...feels like such a nice combination to me

I LOVE these suggestion videos. as a new fishkeeper, (with 3 tanks already) these really help me to decide what I might put in my next tank. I am planning a rack system with a 47.7 gal, and 2 21 gal from ultum nature systems. It will be a looker!!!! Currently Ive got a neon tetra school tank 29 gal, an 8.75 gal neocaradinia tank, and a 2.8 gallon cull tank for the neos.

Hi, Great selections. Currently I'm researching a 40 gallon breeder South Asian biotope. I need to continue researching plants and fish in regards to water parameters. Probably I'll be purchasing the aquarium in the next two to three months. I just trudged back inside after shoveling snow away from my neighbor's and my furnace exhausts. If you have a high efficiency furnace keep your exhaust clear of snow! Stay warm!

Love the pearl gourami. I have kept many different species over the years but only had the peal for about a year. You can actually keep more than 1 unlike some other gouramis. They get along well. Odd thing about mine is they buddy up with my angel fish. They hang out side by side! Cute

I’ve been singing the praises of Florida Flag Fish and their algae cleaning for a while now. I used mine to combat black beard algae and he completely obliterated it. Moved him to another tank to deal with some hair algae and had the same positive result. In both cases he was in planted tanks with nano fish (CPD, tetras) and he paid them no mind whatsoever.

Thanks for this video. I've been setting up my 40 gallon for african cichlids (mbuna). I know its the very very minimum space for them but I consider the floor space of the 40 gallon way more important than the height of the 55 gallons. With good filtration. I was wondering about stocking amount so thank you for that.

My 40 breeder I initially went with liberty mollies, would recommend that your tank isn't TOO densely planted, had WAAAY too many fry (started with 10 and wound up with approximately 70 in a month, there was little to no cannibalism, and took quite the effort to remove and rehome them all. figure less plant cover and some predatory fish would help reduce the population of fry to a more manageable level if I give them another go.

Hi really cool video and just what I was looking for as I've got new 43g and 75gallon tanks, deffinitely want to do some breeding So I really wanted to see if I could do a Leopold's angelfish pair and a apisto pair in the same tank, a substantial cave system so that only the apisto's could get in (was thinking that might give the apistos enough space if the angel's get chasey). still looking around for info and not sure if its really do-able in the 43g but if you could see any major holes then I'd love a shout! if so then molly's/swordtails or the shell/rock dweller Idea you gave will probably be what I go with!

I switched my 40 gallon over from swordtails to goodeids.. Polka-dot splitfins and Corydoras.. I started with 3 swordtails and they quickly multiplied into almost 100 in a few months with both females dropping fry 2 weeks apart, one batch was over 55 and the second was around 40. Not fun dealing with that many fish at once in one tank. I gave a majority of them to a couple of local fish stores. I'm glad I found the goodeids since their reproduction rate is significantly slower. Also have a couple 30 gallon tanks one is a corner tank Pentagon shape to set up, one for a pair of redtail splitfins I was gifted and another for a pair of red/golden gourami ( very orange with tiger stripes) What would you recommend for a diamond shaped corner tank..?

So I built a community tank based on this video. So far I have 4 German Blue Rams 1 male and 3 females, 4 peacock gudgeons, 6 platys, 6 marbled hatchet fish, 4 yoyo loaches and 2 angel fish. The coolest part is that my 2 baby angel fish, about the size of a quarter, have really taken to and been excepted by hatchet fish. The angles are very similar in color I would say very close to camouflage colored. They float with their noses up next to the top slightly tilted. In the exact same position as the hatchetfish. They spend almost their whole day floating in the center of the hatchetfish in a tight little cluster. Pretty cute

Thanks for the great video. I’m getting back into the hobby (this time with a 7 and 11 year old daughters) joining me after a 20 year absence from fish keeping. I am currently cycling a 55 gallon non live planted tank. My youngest loves the red and blue dwarf gourami at the local mom and pop fish store and my eldest loves the cardinal tetra and harlequin rasboras. Keeping there choices in mind what else and how many of each would you add to the tank? Are we able to work a centre piece fish into the mix or are the dwarf gourami filling that roll? Really open to suggestions and guidance as I used to keep only ocars previously so the smaller community fish tank experience is new to me. Thanks for all your help and great knowledgeable videos.

I'm trying a Tanganyikan community with multis, cadopunctatus, and cyprichromis leptosoma. Not sure if I like it because I really enjoyed watching mu multis breed and all the fry. I'm torn on whether I'll keep the tank as is. It's a 55g. I'm going to try to change the scape and move some rocks and shells around and see what happens. My first set up had rocks on one side and shells on the other. The problem is that cados took over the shell area and are harassing all the other fish. We'll see if changing the rocks and shells changes anything. I may end up rehoming the cados and trying the multis and leptosoma and see how that works. I also have a 40g breeder double stand and currently only have 1 40g breeder set up and running. It has my Adoketa ivanacara as the main fish with some dither fish and L494s. I'm thinking about setting up a 2nd 40g breeder and trying to get a breeding group of a more rare mbuna like saulosi, fainzilberi, maybe a fuelleborni maramlade cat breeding group. Something similar to these options.

I'm curious about a couple of things. I've seen several videos about angelfish and rams being together. And says it should be fine. So, first question. If I do angelfish, rams, peacock gugeon, Cory cats, and bristlenose in a 40 gallon, is this too much variety? If not, how many of each? Next question. My tank is cycled and ready to put fish in. How many do I start with and how far apart. I don't want to put too many in to quick. So what is a good rule here?

With the Lake Tanganyika cichlids, you used flagstone stacked, creating caves. What is this space measurement? I have thick slate, and stacked the way you did it, it creates 3/4" space. Is that enough for the lemon cichlids to swim into and use for breeding? (When looking at fish and their needs, only adult length is given, not widest width vertically.) This will be for an elementary school aquarium. Thanks
@PrimeTimeAquatics
@PrimeTimeAquatics 2 жыл бұрын
I think the space is probably around an inch or so? 3/4 might be enough though. You could always double stack some to give some space that is 1.5"?

American Flagfish (aka Florida Flag), Mollies and most, if not all, Rainbow-fish aplreciate a little aquarium salt. What about Glass catfish? Plecostomus are known to eat eggs. Altolamprologus calvus or Altolamprologus compressiceps are specialist carnivores on baby ciclids fry. This would really cut down or eliminate a hatched fry, while offering insight on natural behavior in Tanganyika breeder tank.

Im a tad late to this video but figured id ask. I have a 40 gallon breeder I'm going to move my comminity of tetras into as well as some corydoras and a male rainbow krib. Would it be a good or bad idea to add another krib? I really enjoy the kribs...He is definitely the boss of the tank.

The only issue you may have is two males might get territorial and a female could wind up being a breeding partner resulting in the same issue?

So I plan to set up a 40 gallon breeder . Been in the hobby for 3 years now. I really want to do this Mbuna set up. Little worried about them killing each other like someone else said happened with his. Any other tips to make this work?

Keep the least aggressive species - saulosi, yellow labs or rusty cichlids.

I have an odd sized (ETA heavily planted) 40 gallon. It's 36Wx24T×12D, so it's tall. I currently have 15 Green Neons, 6 Embers Tetras, 6 Pygmy Corys, 3 Otcinclus, 1 Large Female Betta, 1 Female Guppy (who snuck in as a tiny fry when I bought the Embers from my LFS) and a mess of beautiful pest snails (every kind ;). I want to add something else but I'm not sure what to add. Water is on the harder side, with a kH of about 60-80 and a pH around 7.4. I'm loving the tons of mano fish vibe but I'd like to add something that draws the eye. I could rehome the Betta to a 5 gallon of her own. Any ideas?

Sure - I have done rainbow fish, giant danios and Congo tetras without issues. Also - larger barbs often work.

can someone give me advice, I am setting up my first fishtank, would this stocking be too much for a 40 gallon? 2x golden angelfish (pair) 12x Kerri tetra 6x congo tetra, or maybe boesmani rainbows ( I think rainbow fish are too big, just want to confirm) 2x bristlenose plecos nerite + apple snails x6 kuhli loaches. I realise this is a lot, what would be the minimum tank size for this? Bear in mind the tank is heavily planted for oxygenation.
@PrimeTimeAquatics
@PrimeTimeAquatics 2 жыл бұрын
I might just go with one angelfish. A pair can cause problems later if they breed.

HI! I have a new 55 gallon I'm setting up. I want 2 pairs of Kribs, and you are saying Florida Flag fish go good with Kribs? So I can get a Yoyo loach, a few corys, and 4 or 5 Flagfish? I will put in 2 caves, one on either side of the tank. Can the fry survive in this tank?

I usually only keep one or a pair. More than that and they usually start fighting when they get larger and at breeding age.

Just had a 40 breeder come available. Had a flowerhorn die on me after 7 years. 😢😢😢 I’m sure it was age as why he died. But is there anything I should do to the tank before adding new fish to it? Other than the 90% water change I just did on it.

@@PrimeTimeAquatics my decision would have been between a breeding pair, a group of four, or a solo (which I currently have in there) with a school of larger tetras. I'm leaning towards the breeding pair. Thanks!
