This video was really useful. I've been learning Spanish for many years and despite reaching an advanced level I've always had a doubt about when to use 'estuve' or 'estaba' with the gerund. Thanks so much for clearing this up! Keep up the great work!

This comment I´m making demonstrates to me that learning is not about facts but rather emotions. My friend in Lima y others tell me explicitly, a little too often that, when I speak in Spanish, I sound absolutely Español, especially when reading. That comes from the first week of learning the vowels and the diphthongs and word syllabication. So, that´s for the logical thinkers, the analyticals; And again, the first WEEK. Okay, but, learning to SPEAK and comprehend Spanish, which I´m like B2 or whatever, has been completely emotional, imitation, drama. I find voices I wish to sound like and I intensely listen. Point being, whilst I´m listening to Gordon explain and reading your books, I find myself saying the English part with a British accent! I´ve never been to the UK! Ever. I don´t even know British people! Learning is about FUN, laugh your ass off, active listening, making games, play with the language. Maybe it´s because I´m Scorpius and thus, entirely emotionally intelligent, whereas Gemini would be the opposite. Same results, different method. Imitate. Exaggerate. Ham it up! Find voice models and copy. I had a point about the gerund but, ¡joderlo! this is more better. 😁

Suelo explicarlo así: información de ambiente/fondo/hábito = imperfecto, acción/hecho sin más = indefinido. Lo mismo se puede aplicar a estaba/estuve haciendo.

Another splendid video. If I may, I would like to offer a little advice on how to improve the sound quality of your videos. The echo in the room in which you record is rather harsh, so I would suggest finding a way to absorb some of the sound before it has a chance to be reflected by the hard surfaces around you. Obviously, one can use acoustic treatment materials to trap the sound, but it's sometimes possible to improve the situation by strategically placing a few items of soft furnishing around the place. Keep up the good work! ;-)

Further to my previous comment, I just watched your Road to Morocco video, and the sound quality was much better - no booming echo. I also placed an order for the book. 👍

Thanks for this comment. I will look at it. I wonder if it has to do with the microphone placement, or if I used the wrong microphone stream.
@ArchimedesWoo
@ArchimedesWoo 3 жыл бұрын
@@LightSpeedSpanishChannel Hard to tell from here. It's usually a combination of factors. The general idea is to prevent reflected sound from entering the mic. Such reflections can come not only from walls, floors and ceilings but also from hard tabletops/surfaces upon which the mic is placed. Time to experiment, maybe. ;-)

Has hecho bien explicarlo, pues, in English as well it is hard to tell the difference, you feel it and know which one to use but hard to describe it.

I truly, truly hope you both write a book together using Spanish, as a story. Español con Juan, Juan Luís Fernandez, has several graded readers and I own them all. God only knows what will come out of both your minds in a novel with dialog between several characters. I´ll pay for a sign hard copy with shipping to own it. Probably like $100 all said and done but, I´ll do it! I´m gonna keep pestering you until you do it just please...let Cyntia help write the story!! The British... Three men in a boat. ...it´s just...It´s been a long time since Shakespeare. And... just promise you´ll let Cynthia co-author. My brain is still hurting over that horrible 3 men thing. Sounded so good to me, you know? Mierda.
