In this video we'll be testing whether there are actually performance differences between using DLDSR at 4K and running native 4K. We'll be testing this on the RTX 4070 as I want to test it on a GPU that is not as powerful that it would just power through DLDSR settings.
For this test I have a 1440p monitor which is then upscaled to 4K and then downscaled again to 1440p using DLDSR. I also have a native 4K monitor for the native testing.
I would reckon that DLDSR would be slower at 4K than native 4K, and we'll be testing DLDSR at 4K vs Native 4K in Cyberpunk 2077, Spider-Man Remastered, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, and Starfield.
We'll be testing normal rasterized performance as well as using ray tracing, DLSS super resolution and frame generation to really put the Tensor cores to work on this poor RTX 4070.

Another great comparison! Last year I noticed 5-15% performance hit on my 3060 with dldsr vs native. Gta 5 was the most outstanding. Today I checked again but I don't have any noticable difference using dldsr against native with a 4060ti 16g. It's probably due to the improved tensor cores or perhaps nvidia further improved this feature.

Thanks, appreciate the comment! Yeah, it's a bit of both from what I could see. Tested it briefly on a 3060 12G as well and the performance differences are marginal in most games, so I think it has improved quite a bit as a tech. But it does seem to run slightly better on 40-series.

How do you record dldsr footage? I'm trying to make a comparison on my own, but I couldn't capture the footage using normal screenshot.

I use an external capture card for all my recordings (Elgato 4K60 Pro MK2). So I set the capture card to 4K for native, and then to 1440p to use DLDSR to upscale to 4K and then downscale to 1440p again.

@@sololoquy3783 You can try using OBS to record on the local PC as well. There is a performance penalty, but if you just want to record image difference comparisons it will suffice.

Question would be dldsr + dlss to set render resolution to 1440p so dlss upscales it to 4k and then downscale using dldsr How much better is it than 1440p native, how comparable to 4k native and 4k dlss or is it a waste and directly use dlaa

It is definitely sharper, but not "sharpness filter" sharper, just more crisp. That said, I have seen quite a few games where using DLDSR with DLSS causes framerate and frame pacing issues. Ratchet and Clank in particular in my testing ran terrible with that combination. I say give it a shot, and if you are having performance issues then just use either / or, instead of both.

so the DLDSR image would not look less blurry? just anti aliasing is better?
@Mostly_Positive_Reviews
@Mostly_Positive_Reviews Ай бұрын
Hmm, it can look sharper indeed, mostly because of superior anti aliasing. It also has a sharpness slider so you can make it look more crisp if you want as well.

can u make some comparison between DLAA with native resolution like 2560x1440 vs DLDSR from this resolution to 4k and downscale back to native using dlss quality mode, or even balanced to get full hd internal resolution and compare quality of aliasing, textures and details and inpack for perfomance? I think that dldsr should be better quality even at balanced preset againts DLAA, because its downscale from much higher resolution

It probably wont come across great in a YT video due to compression etc, but I have tested this previously. Performance is lower (around 20%) when using DLDSR at 4K and then using DLSS Balanced as opposed to 1440p Native as DLDSR and DLSS have some performance penalty. But it does look better indeed, especially things like cable bridges and power cables etc.

So, i have a 27´ 1440p monitor, and in a future want to buy a 4070ti super, but i think the most inteligent is still with my monitor and use dldsr at 4k, instead of pay like 500$ for a 4k monitor right?
@Mostly_Positive_Reviews
@Mostly_Positive_Reviews 3 ай бұрын
While DLDSR at 4K on a 1440p monitor does offer anti aliasing benefits, it's still not 4K native as it is limited by your monitor's actual number of pixels. So your final output will always only be 1440p, but the game will look better than native 1440p due to the whole frame being rendered at a higher internal resolution and then downscaled to 1440p. If you are only looking for better AA then sure, DLDSR will help with that, but if you want a 4K final output a 4K monitor is the only way to go.

@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews By comparing the game between 1440p DLDSR and 4K you said that 4K is slightly better. Is it actually just slightly better in almost all the games? I know that 4K is significantly better in static images/photos and fonts but just in games?

@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews In your opinion, 1440p DLDSR is relatively comparable to 4K in games (if both monitors have the same size, I assume) or 4K is still noticeably better?
@Mostly_Positive_Reviews
@Mostly_Positive_Reviews 3 ай бұрын
@@socialreport2836 4K with DLAA still looks quite a lot better than 4K DLDSR on a 1440p monitor. I have a 4K monitor that I use for my benchmarks, and a 1440p panel as my daily, and even with DLDSR, there is a noticeable difference between the two. 1440p still looks good, and DLDSR on a 1440p monitor too. To me personally the image quality uplift with native 4K is just not worth the cost in performance as I personally enjoy high refresh rate gaming. But to answer your question, I can definitely tell the difference between 4K DLDSR and 4K Native.

Yeah, building PCs are quite easy to a lot of people, and if you know how to build one it makes it a lot easier to troubleshoot stuff as well. My brother though is completely clueless, and even though he has built his own PC with my help, but he is one person definitely more suited to buying a pre-built. But that said, if he spent some time building and playing around with building PCs he can definitely become more comfortable with it.

What's DLDSR?
@panchyprogamer8651
@panchyprogamer8651 6 ай бұрын
Deep learning dynamic super resolution. It's a technique that renders the videogame at a higher resolution than what the monitor is natively capable of with an additional super sampling (anti aliasign) machine learning filter. In most cases this filter has a slight performance impact. Digital foundry has a video about it too.
