4th Alarm at Diamond Fire Company, Walnutport, PA | 11.02.14

At 12:06 Sunday afternoon, Lehigh County Radio sent Stations 29 and 24 to 209 Washington Street for a structural fire. Callers were reporting smoke from the firehouse.
Immediately upon signing on radio, Chief 29 struck the 2nd alarm for the companies social quarters located at 100 Main Street, directly across from the apparatus floor / station. Within minutes, he struck out the 3rd alarm as the fire was venting out both ends of the roof.
Within 6 minutes, a fourth alarm was transmitted. 2 tower ladders were set-up on the Washington Street side, Ladder 29 was in the rear, Slatington Ladder 24 was on side 4 in the parking lot and Ladder 47 (Lehigh Township) was on Main Street in the front of the fire building. 3 ladder pipes were in operation and quickly darkened down the bulk of the fire.
Walnutport Fire was assisted by companies from Lehigh, Northampton and Carbon Counties.

The fire company I was on in the fire police unit had a fire in the heating system. We got all the apparatus out safely and no one got hurt either. Come to find out, the heating system was as original as our building. Now there is a new heating system that gets checked out every couple of months, just to make sure it's working right.

We had a fire company that was on fire here years ago. In a suburb of Buffalo. The fire company never heard the end of that. But today they have A brand new fire station 4 double bays, pull through and hall for weddings and all activities.

Can't help but wonder if an aggressive interior attack under the fire, from the "unburned" side, would have been more effective than washing the roof and sides of the building with master streams...I mean the fire had self vented...just wondering!!!!

We see no evidence that first or second floor ceilings were compromised, and no smoke, flames, or steam at any of the windows, so it's a calculated risk that this is an attic fire (for now, anyhow) which will require pulling down the ceiling from inside or tearing open the roof from the outside. The only way to find out is to put a crew inside, and I would be amazed if they opened up a second-floor oxygen source without first clearing the first floor. If there was any evidence of heat (flames, smoke, steam) at any of the windows then I would agree that yes, personnel should stay out until master streams are shut off. Regardless, the guy standing next to the roof without a helmet at 5:00, knowing that debris had been falling off the roof, would be spending the next three shifts in training if he were in our department.

after watching this again, the coolest shot in the video was around the 0:55 mark, when the sun was shinning right through the fire, actually made the fire look more Orange n color........

Really hope that the building wasn't a total loss, thats a classic looking building, never did say unless I missed it if there were an y engines parked inside of the firehouse at the time.......

Andrew Silva Judging from the description, this wasn't an actual working firehouse, but the social club for the local fire company(s). The actual firehouse was across the street.

Unfounternly the insurance rejected all costs and slatington is currently in court with them. This happened over a year ago and still sits by my house un fixed

On that bucket truck saw that there were Yellow Breathing air canisters attached to the lower portion of the extender for the bucket, what are those excatley for, are there some kind of breathing masks that the fighter can put on in the bucket that have lines that go to those canisters on the side, I know that they still have the4 one that they wear on their backs, so I already know thats not the reason for them.....LOL

***** ok so just to confirm regarding that Bucket truck with those Breathing air canisters on the sides of them, instead of having to wear those tanks on their backs, that bucket must have some sort of lines that the firefighters who work from that bucket and the firefighters hook up those lines to their masks and the breathing air from thos yellow canisters go straight to thir masks, is this all correct??????

I believe that is a Volunteer Fire Company, and usually such Volunteer departments can have a hundred plus members. As such, only officers would have two way coms, as radios are expensive, and firefighters would have to rely on alternative means for communicating commands, if there was no officer near them to communicate through.
