The coil rear springs will definitely ride smoother with a progressive spring rate. Additionally they should help articulate the axle better to maintain maximum tire traction in extreme off road situations. Definitely a great improvement over traditional leaf springs. They should consider providing a full locking front axle too!

Suspension looks nice. Wouldn't hate if that exhaust is avoiding something like a PHEV battery. Drums honestly have an advantage in trailering, off-road use and maintenance and it's something that auto journalists should have mandatory classes on before steering the industry because "what's better for sports cars is better for every car"... Anywho, I'm sure the change will satisfy the journalists and feel nicer in unladen driving on the street. That being said, I hope to enjoy my gen3 for a very long time.

I almost bought a 2022 trd pro but was very disappointed that it only rained it 1.5” and it came with the same small tires and no lower gear option for when I put larger tires on it, the shocks were awesome but once I put a long travel suspension on it I’d need new longer shocks.. in Canadian that $12,000. Extra$$$ the disk brakes were 20 years too late, and the coil suspension is a great idea, less unsprung weight and more control, more wheel travel…. The front suspension should have the option of a long travel.. and a second front locker…. Larger tires with lower gears and better fuel economy, my 1/2 ton gets better fuel economy with lots more HP and torque, bigger tires too… Toyota needs a diesel option.

It's strange how Toyota missed their redesign deadline for the 4Runner - the first time Toyota has ever missed such a deadline in the company's history - yet they still have so much free time and energy, they're already updating the new Tundra and Tacoma. Rear discs. I service my front discs, I'd pay someone to service drums. Drums last much longer so paying for that service is agreeable to me. So, the change appears to favor on road driving and that's where most of my miles are accrued. The change to discs will result in higher overall cost for parts over the course of ownership. @@wulfkar677 I'd like to see your reaction to fitting in my base-model '96 standard-cab! But I'm sure some clever engineers could decrease the size and weight of the current model a bit and still leave room for a 6'3" driver. Maybe extend the footwells, or make the door-panels and center consoles less cluttered and bulky! By the way, many years ago I had an '87 Isuzu LS standard-cab pickup. It was smaller than my '96 Tacoma.Yet it rode and handled better, and had more legroom!

@@sunbeam8866 haha! Yeah lets hope the engineers work their magic in downsizing while increasing cabin space. It will be cool to see what the new generation brings. Over in the Philippines, some of those small SUVs had incredible legroom and I was always fascinated how they did that. Probably because the engines were so tiny since you couldn't go fast anyway with all that traffic : )

I don't like the wrap. It's sloppily done. :o) I bet they swapped sides is all for the exhaust and fuel tank. Too much fat guy lean. But who cares, we cut it off anyway. The tail pipe. I wouldn't be surprised if they put the battery on the passenger side too. Rear discs would be a likely fix for the infamous 'nose-dive' but like you, I believe drums are fine off-road. Definitely harder to warp a drum than a rotor. The rear......Hmmmmmmmm.....I wonder if the next move will be the Toyota KDSS? [spy] Looks as though like you said, they are hinting at the 4R setup, it might include that option, but could be standard on the OR and Pro models. I personally believe the push is to add as much stuff as possible from the factory to draw you in and then charge you for it. Toyota is following that lead. Look at the Silverado with lockers, back and front. And rolling on 35's. The Power Wagon too, is a beast. Granted, we're comparing full size to "mid size" pickups but......Maybe on par then with Ranger and Bronco Raptors??????? If Toyota would deliver a Hilux like Tacoma or a Raptor-esque wide body style desert runner/crawler people would buy them right off the line. 4th gen could be a lot of things but we'll have to see. I am content being a 3rd Gen owner. It's a truck. I use it as a truck. I like my truck. It's a great truck. "Hi, I'm Rob and I'm a Tacomaholic".
