5.3 Chevy LS Engine Oil Pressure Before and After Replacing O Ring

Here I show a before and after changing the oil pickup tube O ring on my 2010 Chevy Avalanche with the 5.3 LS engine because of low oil pressure. There was some leaking from the oil cooler lines block where it bolts to the oil pan which may have been remedied just by tightening the bolts. This video would cover the Chevy Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, Avalanche and more with the LS engine.

If you did all that you should have replaced the oil pump as well.

deleted my oil cooler and got 10-15 more psi on the pressure, also only use wix xp filters and pennzoil ultra platinum.

That’s not normal, mine is doing the same idles at 20psi even when hot but if I step on the gas from a stop it will reach 40 and come back down. Before the P0521 code came on I remember it used to sit and play at 40 psi or higher when revved .. My dumbass decided to take it to a shop and they only replaced the oil pressure sensor but it did not fix it. Now they want to replace a relief valve, at this point I’d rather do it myself since their “professional diagnostic tool” suggests to throw parts at it

I have a cammed 5.3 sitting at 20 psi at idle and at 40+ when gassing it. Is that normal¿

Still a little low and oil pressure, but I cannot believe you took that much time to take everything apart to get to that and you didn't shim the oil pressure spring on the pump, it's easy to do with a couple of washers. Get at least 10 to 12 more pounds of pressure. It's a simple upgrade. You can use one two or three sometimes four washers in the cap that holds the pressure spring, and you still have plenty of volume in that stock oil pump

Thank you for commenting. I also hoped to see more pressure. My neighbor has an 09 Avy and said his pressure jumped after he had the rear main gasket replaced. Something to consider.

Engine cold supposed to be 60 Normal temperature Supposed to 36 My friend, you need cam bearing big project. Ask me,i have a bunch of Chevy suburban tahoe, sulvarado Some small issue Some you need cam bearing big project. That's what you need my friend .

That is a good question. There are a lot of variables that can affect the cost. I suggest getting quotes from different shops. Good luck

No idea if this helps but I have a 2010 Chevy Avalanche as well, 2WD no 4WD if that makes a difference. Currently at 153k miles and I have never changed the oil pickup ring but did get a p0521 (oil pressure sensor faulty) code about a month ago and changed it. My truck runs identical in oil pressure, but even to me it just seems like it should be a tad higher. I have heard however that these 2008 and newer Chevys seem to run lower in oil pressure than the 2007 and earlier models.
