We have a 'free' table in my apartment building. Someone put one of those cassette tape adaptors on the table. I remember those from the 90s when everyone was switching to CDs. In my buddy's minivan, he had one and he had a pillow on the floor to put his discman on since it skipped when he hit a bump.

I purchased my truck new in 09. 8yrs straight no issues. Last 7yrs been costing me about 1k to 2k in maintenance . Cheaper then car payments. Yes vehicles do depreciate but if you keep it twice the length of the loan, you get your money back plus more each month. My truck has paid me back twice and working on 3 pay back. If you keep the ride at least 10 to 15yrs, you making your money back plus more and enjoy no payments. Best part, I didn't buy someone's problems. Keep them longer

@asnmdnss Not Bragging but buying new and staying on top of maintenance the vehicle will go a long time. Not every vehicle can make it like luxury cars like Mercedes, BMW, Maserati. Gotta buy the vehicle all Americans are driving. I played the used car game, just cost me alot that I could of purchased a new ride. Learn my lesson at 18, always buy new and keep it at least 10 to 15yrs. Get your money back and enjoy 8yrs payment free or more Doesn't have to be a 70k or 100k vehicle. There are some new vehicles for 20 to 28k. My 2010 Nissan altima. 156,000 and still going strong. Purchase it new for 23k. 14yrs old today, I got my money back twice already . Just best to buy new and take care of it

I had a an Acura TL 2006 until it was totaled 6 months ago. I liked its driveability, nice to drive. But the reliability is overrated. I have, even now after no longer owning it, service records going back to the day of the purchase and I know for a fact that it began to cost me way more than it was worth. The only reason for me to hold on to it was sentimental; it was purchased when my child was born and there were memories associated with it, almost like a family member. And like a family member, it was expensive and needed considerable maintenance.

I bought a used 1998 Mercedes E320 at 10 years old with 33,000 for $9k. Had this car for 12 years as a daily driver. It was a little more costly for maintenance BUT I ran the numbers and it literally cost $50 per month all in to own this smooth, comfortable and safe ride. It got 30 MPG on the highway with a V6. Insurance was cheap too! They don’t make these cars like they used to and would not buy Mercedes now. Food for thought.

I always buy used, or if we're not sure, we just lease something. But bought my 2019 Silverado used right before the used car market went crazy, the only vehicle i've owned in my life that appreciated significantly in value. Have not traded it in since i paid it off, but with Chevy's fuel injection system I added a catch-can onto the engine to get all the used oil vapors and contaminants that would otherwise get sent right back into the engine, reducing its life. Have not had a problem in the 3 years i've owned the truck.

After saving up and buying a new car with cash, immediately start a "car payment" in savings of $200 per month and in 5 years buy another new car for your current car plus those savings. It will work well for a Honda Accord and could even include an upgrade. Have been doing this (with lesser $ amounts) for many years and it has worked very well.

I'd remove Honda because the air bags were recalled and replaced plus Takata supplied airbags to basically over the years. I would add anything Ford / Lincoln with the Ecoboost, especially the 2.0L turbo 4 cylinder prior to 2019. They had headgasket issues that to truly fix requires engine replacement. I'd also add Kia / Hyundai with Theta 2 engines - they're used in most of their cars for about 10 years and are unlikely to hold up. The Audi should be expanded from just the A4 to all of them with the 2.0L turbo 4 cylinder in that year range - lots of problems between timing chains and piston ring fouling. With that said, Audi did fix the problem, so newer ones are significantly better.

A mechanic in my family (over 40 years experience), says that 90% of reliability for a car is how you maintain it. I would also suggest that people should strongly consider cars with high mpg. Several of the vehicles on this list are modern gas guzzlers.

I’m a car wholesaler in Nashville and I’d really say this: the cars you should never buy are: a Tesla, or any electric vehicle for that matter, Kia, and ford. You CAN drive an older luxury car for cheap, I’ve owned and had friends that have driven old Mercedes for hundreds of thousands of miles on them and they never wavered. It’s truly the best car to fit into your budget and to still Be comfortable because some of you guys might be like me with a bad back and can’t ride in the cheaper vehicles like a Honda or something for a long time without series issues. But I would also recommend Subaru as well, the X series bmw thing I kind of agree with, a great alternative would be an older 5 series, sedans and wagons are much cheaper to maintain than SUVs so always consider that when buying a vehicle. Love the show and episode, great job!

In August '23, I bought a 2013 F-150, for just under $10k. Since I have no savings nor trade-in, I had to use a credit union loan. 60 months at $269/mo. with a 7% rate. I put new pads and rotors on 3 wheels(passenger front was like new). Otherwise it's been trouble free. I now have 241k on the odometer, still running fine, everything works
@Skooozle
@Skooozle 28 күн бұрын
Were the pads on the passenger front replaced shortly before you bought the truck or is that caliper not working. If it pulls to the left when you brake, that would be another clue that you have a bad caliper on the front right. A new caliper is typically an inexpensive easy fix. Stay safe out there.

Lexus LS430 is the best used car you can buy these days. Over $500 million was spent just to develop the engine that the LS engine is based on. Things rarely go wrong and they do it is not critical stuff. The cup holders are horrible in these cars but the engine will go over 300K miles with proper maintenance. They were around $55-70K new and a really nice one starts around $12-15K these days. Avoid the ones with air suspension because they will bankrupt you.

And where is it written in the fabric of the universe that you can’t buy a $20k car and immediately face a $5k repair? Come on guys, I’m just talking about simple math. $10k + $5k is less than $20k. My point being you buy a cheaper car, even if you face a few repairs here and there (hopefully a lot less than $5k) you’re still saving money in the long run compared to spending more on the car purchase price.
@CatonsvilleCentralRwy
@CatonsvilleCentralRwy 26 күн бұрын
Actually, to really drive the point, you could buy yourself a $10k Honda and you’ll probably face far less in repairs than a $65k Mercedes. Purchase price does not automatically equal less repair costs/maintenance.

I don't think people should avoid buying Hondas from those years, rather, they should check if the airbag recalls have been done on them and if they haven't, go ahead and get that done.

The last time I checked, Mercedes has the LOWEST customer satisfaction rating on the market. This is largely due to the price of the car was not offset by the even most minor repair. The average Mercedes customer is somewhat discriminating in taste and demands for performance and quality, so that when ANY repair is incurred on their car, it is highly irritating to the point that they give low marks on satisfaction polls. This is of course, not all Mercedes owners, but only those in the snob pool.

I bought my GMC Acadia, new in June, 2011. Here we are after 13 years and I only had to replace, the tires, battery, and oil changes. The only other problem with the car was not due to anything about the car's manufacturing. I live in the country and rats got into the wiring harness and chewed it up. That was a $1,000 bill. I learned to leave the hood up and a light on, and haven't had that problem since. I don't buy a used car, I buy a new one and take care of it for a very long time. I don't have someone else's headache.

Not only are those two brands notorious for unreliability, but repair and maintenance is expensive, and the resale value for those two brands drop like rocks.
