The only one i dont trust is the gerber, ive owed several and they were garbage, especially for the price tag, now cold steel i will bet my life on, i have personal experience with cold steel and even their budget knives are crazy, i currently own the mini tac tanto, and the recon tanto fixed blade in SK-5, and ive chopped down black oak saplings with it, blade dulled to a butter knife after the 3rd sapling but that was the only damage it took, my current "crown of my collection" is my newly acquired heretic knives seraphim, 154CM steel, havent put it through any tests other then a couple sharpness tests, but by the gods ive never owned a knife as sharp as this beast

He never included the Ka-bar honestly a beast of a knife. This knife was made back before we got everything from China. It served in WW2 and was one of the toughest knives I ever used. That was probably his #1 pick. Edge retention was great on it and the tip never broke when I used it for prying tasks. I did some work on it though because this antique is one of the prettiest knives I own.

@jamesbaker3153 if it cant handle real world abuse it has no real world applications. Sure you shouldnt always baton but sometimes its needed so knowing your knife can handle it in case of an emergency is really important. If a knife breaks if it gets batoned the first time its nothing more than a display piece. Aak a blacksmith to make you a knife that can withstand batoning and then choose not to youll always know theres probably no way it will ever break

I'd say Midgards Messer deserves to be on here too. It's a folder with 3 locking mechanisms.

Gerber has the best package deal. Firestarter and sharpener built in for real survival despite steel. Less bc to carry separately. Fits on a plate carrier perfectly.

You forgot the best of them all the Ka-Bar. I’ve had mine for 35 years and it is still as tough as ever. I’ve hammered it in to a tree trunk and done pull ups on it. It is virtually indestructible.

I think I'll stick with my 1993 British army survival knife. Yeah they can be a little rough when new but with a little work on refinishing the blade edge and a sand on the handle it is the true definition of knife axe. Got mine from the local army surplus about 15 years ago brand new and unissued. £35.00

That last one is the same design as the Camillus Carnivore X. A machete that is probably the best I’ve ever bought. The X has a sawblade in the back that cuts through wood like butter and stays sharp. Only thing I’ve found is the chisel tip is filled out from hours of use but I plan to resharpen it soon
