Great video. I like videos that are quick and simple and straight to the point. none of the BS and intro music and so forth. BTW what are the specs on these wheels? I read below they're 16" but what offsets? 1.25" spacers I assume?
@4WDTrek
@4WDTrek 2 жыл бұрын
They are 16x8" with a -12 offset. They just BARELY hit the brake caliper. So we added on a 1.25" wheel adapter to push them out a tad. Which my buddy wanted anyways. Wanted a bit more tire poke

Nice quick, but clear and helpful video! My 07 4Runner started making a squealing noise when I was driving at slow speeds like in my neighborhood or in a parking lot. I assumed my rear brake pads needed replacing since my fronts were already done recently. The rear pads were low so I replaced them and cleaned and greased it all. However, the squeal is still there. Could it be the parking brake? I never even looked in there. Could that system also cause a squeal at low speeds? TIA!
@4WDTrek
@4WDTrek Жыл бұрын
One way to check. While it is squealing, put pressure on the parking brake ever so slightly. Not enough to stop the vehicle but just barely enough to have tension on it. If the squeak goes away, then it is parking brake related. If it does not go away, likely your wheel bearings are wearing out.

you should cycle the e-brake a few times before putting the spacers and wheel back on the hub.
@4WDTrek
@4WDTrek Жыл бұрын
As in apply it and disengage it a few times? Because that's how you test it as you are adjusting it. It gets cycled plenty of times before the wheel and spacers are back on it.

@greenrangerbeatdown6913
@greenrangerbeatdown6913 Жыл бұрын
@@4WDTrek Up tightens down loosens. You don't feel it tightening until the last 20 percent of the adjustment. It's easier to simply include that info in the how to video. For anyone wanting to know my exact process. rotate up until it stops then back off one click at a time downwards, for me it was three clicks before the rotor started moving and the parking brake didn't drag.

Hi, I am trying to take off the rear rotors on my 2013 Toyota Sienna AWD. Before i jacked it up, i didnt put it in neutral. Anyway, i was able to take off the passenger side rotor, but the drivers side rotor is not budging. it seems like the brake adjuster needs to be loosened - however, the person who worked on it last time didnt install the rotor properly and now I cant access the adjuster. What should I do? And is the rotor stuck because its not in neutral? I dont think so. Why do we need to have the vehicle in neutral anyway? Thanks.
@4WDTrek
@4WDTrek 2 жыл бұрын
The Toyota sienna has a different rear brake set up. The access location should be on the rear side of the rotor on that, not the front like in this video. It should have a rubber dust shield. Putting a rear wheel drive or all wheel drive vehicle in neutral allows you to turn the wheel by had to feel where the brake grabs while adjusting.

When would you adjust the parking brake cable beneath the center console instead?
@4WDTrek
@4WDTrek 2 жыл бұрын
Under the center console is for the fine tuning. Ideally, you would want that right in the middle of the adjustment when you do this method. That way, over time, you can dial in exactly perfect. The cable will stretch a bit over time so tightening it slightly under console will keep it right where you want it.
@ImperatorCaesar22
@ImperatorCaesar22 10 ай бұрын
@@4WDTrekWill tightening the cable in the console cause the parking brake to engage more or disengage more? I.e. if I wanted the parking brake to let off the rotor a little, would I tighten or loosen the cable?

I thought the rule was a tiny bit of drag was OK, and the brakes should be self adjusting and sort themselves out anyway? If I were you I'd be tempted to remove the rotors to see what's going on inside. Just completed parking brake job on my 2004 Sequoia, it has regular disc brakes at rear but the parking brake is a separate system with cable operated brake shoes within the rotor. My parking brake was barely working, so removed the rear rotors and what a mess inside, a lot of corrosion, even a couple of the shoe fastener springs had corroded and come away, the shoes themselves had plenty of material but had deteriorated and were flaking, I'm guessing they were the original factory stuff still on there! Replaced the shoes, some of the hardware, and cleaned and greased, working good now, pig of a job though!
@4WDTrek
@4WDTrek 3 жыл бұрын
I was always taught, go to where it has a tiny tiny bit of drag and back it off one click. We actually did replace the shoes and springs and all of that separately. We just did not film that in this video. We wanted to do just the video on adjustment alone.

By e brake catching some did it cause a drag or felt like you had a bent rim etc?
@4WDTrek
@4WDTrek 3 жыл бұрын
It caused a drag pretty bad. When driving down the freeway for example, it pulled to the passenger side quite a bit. Also when it was on flat ground, shifting to drive, it wouldn't actually start moving. You had to push down on the gas. Thats not how it was supposed to work with an auto

@@4WDTrek No, this video is about the "parking brake" and that is what I am talking about.....I bought a 2006 recently to use as my vehicle to drive back and forth to work and around town since I hit a deer and my Rav4 was totaled according to the insurance co. This parking brake pedal goes to the floor with little pressure from my foot. It either needs new parts or adjustment as I know nothing about them or how they work and the mechanics of them.....and so it is why I landed here with this first video from my Google search.....

I was able to do it in 5 minutes. Jack it up, pop off the wheel. Adjust and throw the wheel back on. Including filming it, it took me about ten minutes to set up cameras, do the work, narrate and everything. Jack up the rear end by the center pumpkin. Each wheel takes about 20 seconds to remove. Quick adjustment. Then about 30 seconds to put back on.

@@4WDTrek I would like to think most would know, but you never know who may be watching who doesn’t have an owner’s manual to their rig or otherwise doesn’t have or know how to find consistent and accurate info. Hell, a tech at Discount Tire cross-threaded a lug throwing my wheels back on after getting new tires as I found out yesterday and the same kid snapped a lug taking them off. It’s a different world today.
