My favorite Hoka Workout Shoes are the Bondi 8 (they come in wide and regular). I have the regular, and it still has a wide-toe box | bit.ly/4aNpDMb

@@SophieUlianoGorgeouslyGreen Yes to don't add weight but also avoid steep hills and stairs. I ruined my knees by doing steep hills, wasn't thinking at the time that the arthritis in my metatarsal "should have" warned me the arthritis would end up in my knees. Duh!!! I would do a V shaped staircase for 112 steps for extra cardio each day and also walked steepest hills for cardio not realizing this was the worst thing for arthritic people to do as this is excessive wear and tear on the knees. I ate lots of fruits and veggies, had flax oil and olive oil each day, plus turmeric, wore "Crocs" due to their cushioning effect, also weight lifting for bones, and walking to maintain health and stay off medication for arthritic pain and it worked! EXCEPT I did damage because arthritic people should avoid stairs and hills if possible.

Some really great advice here! As a ChiWalking Master Instructor I'd like to respectfully share that heel striking can actually cause injuries. In ChiWalking, we land on the back half of the foot to avoid too much impact. I also love to belly breathe and nose breath when I'm walking. Thanks for sharing these great ideas!

P. S. Your points about the forest bathing and the breathing are spot on. Being mindful of the environment and focusing on your breathing can transform your exercise session into a meditative session. And just as our Lamaze breathing techniques got us through labor, breathing techniques can help you power through. I don't care to exercise with others (but that is my preference; it would be motivating to most normal people!) except my canine companions. I live in a rural county. I have a small neighborhood. I would start out with my dogs and along the way other dogs in the neighborhood would join in. I was like the pied Piper. So long ago. I'm 64 this year, and regrettably have been sedentary for too long. It's been nice to recommit.

Confession: I'm a wee bit geeky. One of the things that I have found helpful for both motivation and safety is using a heart rate monitor (the chest strap with mobile app). It will (1) allow you to do some initial assessments of your current cardiovascular fitness through a series of tests; (2) enable you to visually see the load on your heart (I'm partial to Polar; their H-10 strap connects to your mobile app--back in the day (2000+) the data was transmitted through "morse code" through computer microphone) while you are exercising; (3) importantly! prevent you from overtraining and derailing your fitness motivation (yes, even with your walking if you are pushing your heart into higher zones due to sedentary start point or hills on your walk). It is easy to embrace in our head a more ambitious cardio plan than our body can undertake.; and (4) allow you to see your progress--which is the best payoff! It also tracks your walk/run. What is progress? Doing more with less heart effort. You will see empirically the improvements from your session data as well as how much better you feel.

Success as in weight-loss? My thought is, you might be doing too much? If your body is processing it as stress it could be keeping your cortisol levels high and you will not let go of weight if that's the case. Perhaps you need more recovery time. You also might need to add a weight lifting routine every second day and focus more on that than cardio ..

I started this weekend to walk 30 mins around my yard and I am doing that each evening when I try to track my food or steps I always quite due to to much to track and it makes me feel like a failure and i always stop I think just getting out there and walk for 30 mins helps my mind think yes, I can do it. I feel for you. When the body is inflamed it is first because of the bad quality of the food that make you feel hungry all the time and tired. Get rid of the processed food, fried food, juice, soda, and sugar. They literally are killing you. Reduce carbs to the minimum, add a ton of fresh/frozen veggies, fresh fruits, fish, good quality proteins (beans, meat, yogourt) and nuts, seeds. Cook yourself: meal prep can help you to reduce the time you need. You need to sleep 8 hours a day as it is the best medicine. Fast one day per week to rest your whole body and reduce your inflammation.

Zone two is not good for fat loss. It can actually cause your cortisol to raise which causes belly fat.
@barbarafairbanks4578
@barbarafairbanks4578 3 ай бұрын
@carolinewilhite6362 what are you basing this statement on? Frankly, I don't believe your statement to be objectively true. As well...ALL exercise correlates to a rise in cortisol - a temporary rise. As well, temporary is the key word here. That is...an 'acute' rise in cortisol (quickly rises, then dissipates). It's the non-acute, or a chronically high cortisol level that results in a lipominergic response, particularly in the abdominal area, i.e., 'belly fat'. (this is jmo)- but my opinion is based on knowledge... i.e., what I think I know on this subject. Obviously, you believe that you know differently. So, I'm just wondering what your source (of knowledge) is?
