Estate Sales are Golden!! I miss going to NY estate sales. My favorite part is walking into a time capsule. The Lil caps with the prongs would make great lids especially for polymer clay jars. And the tobacco pipe cleaners are great armatures for spun Cotton critters. Love your finds!❤🥰

Thanks Jolene🤗 I have to agree about the time capsule. I love imagining how the "person" used the items or amasses their collection - especially crafty things. Sometimes everything is meticulously organized and sometimes it's more, well, like my methods 😆 I love the serendipity of it all 🥰✨

Hello Dot, great finds, your estate sales sound really interesting, we have car boot sales over here where people park their cars usually in a field and either set up a table or put things down on the ground to sell them. Family can be so noisy at times lol. Have a lovely rest of the week. Best wishes from, Yorkshire England 🇬🇧 😊
@thedollcupboard
@thedollcupboard 2 ай бұрын
Aw best wishes to you also Diane in Yorkshire 🥰 I've heard of boot sales from my across -the -pond friends. I would imagine one would have to be very selective of what to put up for sale in the car boot. I suppose the rummaging occurs going from boot to boot. Do you ever find crafty items at boot sales? 😍✨
@diane64yorks
@diane64yorks 2 ай бұрын
@@thedollcupboard you can buy all sorts of things at car boots, anything from a spanner to a wardrobe and everything in-between usually whenever anyone has a bit of a garage ,shed or home clear out they do a car boot sale if they can't sell things on Facebook, so if it fits in the car/van you can sell it at one, I think they are similar to what you call flea markets over there in the US. There are rules though, you're not allowed to sell counterfeit or fake goods and no tobacco or alcohol allowed for sale either, the police usually go around them checking for that sort of thing, but anything else goes, at our local one which is quite large at about 2 acres with 3 acres for parking, there's usually a huge refrigerated butchers van selling fresh meat, and people selling fruit and veg. There's also a cabin that sells hot and cold drinks and snacks, I've have bought craft items like fabric, beads, paper etc and even small pieces of wood, occasionally you can find dolls house furniture but it's usually the chunky wooden sort for children, they are great if you are looking for toys though, there is always lots of children's toys and books, and lots and lots of clothes in all shapes and sizes. People usually have trestle tables and clothes rails, but some just pile everything on a blanket on the ground, no-one has access to people's cars, they are usually locked and the owners sit behind them in folding chairs. Have a lovely rest of the week Best wishes from Yorkshire, England 🇬🇧 😊

Wow now I have a splendid picture of boot sales. 😍Yes, they would be called flea markets or swap meets here. But how great would it be to just do it all right out of your car boot?! No unloading and reloading at the end of the day. 😄 Sure sounds like fun Diane. Here's to happy hunting and amazing finds next time you go! 🤩❤️

My mother found them at auctions in person of sewers, seamstress. I have found them at estate sales and like sources of former sewers. Smaller rural communities tend to be better priced in my opinion, but as these things are the latest trend our sources are harder to find. Luckily so many people had to sew at home. There are still treasures to be found!

The little gold cups with 4 "spikes" are called nails. Don't ask, I don't know why, but... Poke them through from the back of you fabric (paper, ribbon...). Place a gem from the Blue Cross box into the cup part on the right side. Then using a pencil eraser (an old hard one is great), gently push the spikes over the gem tonhold it in place. You could alsouse them as flat top studs, although it's not their intended purpose. Push through from the right side of the fabric, and close the spikes from the back, with out a gem. I only know what they are because my mom had some fancier ones for making my dad western shirts with the pearl buttons. Her's were set with a special tool.

I'm sure I"m not the only person who wishes a sale like you found was in my area. The box and the pound of paper mache' are each worth more than $10 each, so yay for you! I also have wrapping papers in large scale that I intend to use as wallpaper. It is very old-school, and not boring. Okay, all my dolls and the pieces I've made are over 1:12 scale, and I mix tinier scale as I love 20's and 30's cast iron and am slowly getting a few pieces, like Arcade, Kilgore, so there's that. Very low budget forces me to be restrained.:( The 2 'kid' beds are Tootsie Toy. The 'kids' are too big for the beds, but I honour the original baby houses, LOL I love the juxtaposition!

Me too Maroulio! I love to mix scales for a bit of the unexpected. Isn't that what children always do? They incorporate all their favorites into play 😄. I've only recently discovered the Kilgore brand (I have a lavender sink). I like the cast iron pieces also. I hear you on budget! Minis, especially vintage minis, are so pricey😅 Oh well, it's forcing me to build my own things. 😍✨

@@thedollcupboard Mine came in a box lot at an estate sale. With it I made a bunch of paper mache egg forms. They are rock hard and all I did was add a bit of Elmers glue to the water and celluclay mixture. It does sand well with an electric sander, I won’t attempt to do it by hand. To get a smooth surface, I am probably going to have to put a thin layer of paperclay over it or maybe spackle? Then paint and line with fabric or decopauge the eggs. It really is a good product for a base. I may use it for some composition doll repair even.
@thedollcupboard
@thedollcupboard 2 ай бұрын
@LynneWright These are such great ideas- especially using as composition doll repair. (I only dabble 🤣). Paper mache eggs are one of my favorite vintage decorations so this sounds amazing. Would gesso work to smooth them over? It's pretty much like spackle I suppose. Thank you so much for sharing about your projects with the paper clay! ❤️
@LynneWright
@LynneWright 2 ай бұрын
@@thedollcupboard Gesso may work, it depends on how smooth you can get it. I greased plastic eggs and used them as molds, I did have to break most of them to remove them, but they cost pennies so…
